  1. Heather: You're body has been thru a lot of stress. Hope this gall bladder episode is the last thing and you'll start to get relief mentally & physically. Debmidge
  2. Sure thing! Use 8" round pan...haven't tried any other size or shape. I had a problem at first as the batter was too "wet" and it sunk after I removed it from the oven (like a souffle!) . I had to reduce the wet ingredients a little at a time & reduce oven temp and increase baking time to get the proper consistency. Grease and corn flour...
  3. Hi I'd sure like to know too. Cure 81 is supposed to be gluten-free, but we didn't like the taste. Does anyone else have any info that they can add?
  4. sorry typo "Near northern Central NJ" I am in Union.
  5. Kerri, I am from south Union County (need northern Central NJ) and find that there's nothing available. We are planning our 25th Wedding Anniv. party and two big catering places turned us down when I asked if they could provide a gluten-free meal for my husband, the man with the 25th Wedding Anniv. I finally found a place that can do a buffet for everyone...
  6. Baskin Robbins...this is good news. I'd make sure to tip them good if you tell them to rinse the scoop and they comply without argument and indicate that's why the tip (in the tip jar) is being given, so that they get rewarded. You might want to leave some CSA info there as a back up. It can never hurt to to be an advocate at place where food is served...
  7. Sara If found it. Thank you. Deb
  8. Hi All I do have the B. Hagman book. Sounds like it'll make good rolls. Husband is new to celiac disease and is afraid to try pure oats this soon. Maybe as he feels better. I'll look for Sara's receipe too on other post. I'm still searching for corn bran that's gluten-free. I make him a cornbread that uses all gluten-free: corn meal, corn flour...
  9. Hi All I have my doubts about the X Rays and this is why....during my husband's 2003 celiac disease diagnosis, his Gastro told him that his blood work results indicate that he's more than likely has had celiac disease the entire 28 years or so he's been ill. Over the past 28 years he has had numerous GI Barium X-ray series that he can glow in the dark...
  10. Steve Best wishes for a good recovery. Keep up your spirits. Debmidge
  11. I wanted to add that my purpose in knowing this is because my husb went gluten-free before endoscopy. I want him to get endoscopy and I want to let him know that if he has R.S. an endoscopy can pick it up. I realize he needs an endoscopy but he's a stubborn man (it's a good thing HE's never gotten pregnant - he wouldn't want to go thru delivery!). ...
  12. Hi All Thanks for your replies. I wanted to have more knowledge of refractory sprue and wanted to hear from people who have been diagnosed with this. My husand is faithful on his diet, I make sure that everything he eats is gluten-free. It's been 6 mos gluten-free and we were expecting that he'd at least would feel better by now and at least...
  13. HI Thanks for the reply, I have the rice bran, but I want to make something (my own creation/receipe) and I want to use corn bran. Anyone know of a manufacturer of corn bran? Thanks.
  14. Hi All Is there a Refractory Sprue patient in the house? Please tell us how they diagnosed this and what must be done for it and what the prognosis is. There is a need to know because I am suspicious that my husband may be at this juncture. Thank you. Debmidge 4/2/04
  15. Is there such a thing as corn bran? Where do you get it? Can't find anywhere.
  16. My husband has had the shaking from: Prozac, Zoloft, Serzone, Celexa, Paxil, Remeron, & one or two others I can't recall. At one point they added to the anti depressant Klonopin which is for seizures, which didn't work. All of the seretonin uptake and re-uptake based scripts do this to him. We were at a neurologist this week and they prescribed...
  17. To all & especially Gillian: I recall when going thru the Entrolab site, in the area of why they rely on stool sample to provide a good test for the anti bodies...Entrolab, in their own site, states that you could still have the anti bodies for 2 years after you've gone gluten-free. That's why, they say, the stool sample is a good test for celiac...
  18. To Jojes Your degree of celiac sounds like my husband's. No fruits & vegetables in addition to the gluten free diet. He must have much damage since he's been sick for 28 years undiagnosed. He has had no biopsy yet, but I don't think it's needed but certainly good to have. We can tell by his slight improvement on a gluten free diet that he is...
  19. Laura: Could you go into detail about the nurse/rectum story? Sounds like a funny one that only a celiac could have. Thanks, Debmidge
  20. To Alexa: My only advice is to perhaps visit restaurants that might be potential locations for restaurant dates. Go to those restaurants at non peak hours and peruse the menu at the front desk, ask to speak with the manager/owner. Discuss your dietary needs and how it will challenge the restaurant. Get their feedback on their ability to cater to you...
  21. Hi All I've read everyone's messages and must add that my husband has been dealing with celiac unbeknownst to him for 28 years or so. Over those years he eliminated the wrong foods from his diet which he thought were giving him indigestion and gas. He eliminated fruits, vegetables, spices, fried foods and tomatoes. He had bathroom problems to the point...
  22. I told my sister in law last week that I think she has celiac (her brother, my husband has it) and she told me that she'd rather be dead than have to eat gluten free. She's not denying she has it, she just doesn't want to have the bother of the special diet. Maybe you can suggest to that mother that next time the baby gets a blood test??? they add...
  23. Thank you for your help with my question.....I am mainly asking because I am looking for restaurant tips because I am interested in going to a restaurant while I am on vacation and getting a baked potato, but I wanted to know the "ropes" if I could.
  24. Yes, please someone please tell if you know about pasta making...my husband misses manicotti.
