  1. Lindsey As the wife of a newly diagnosed celiac man I have to agree that the gluten causes a chemical reaction which takes a very long time to leave the body. This chemical reaction does affect the neurological system which in turn can affect the brain and thinking. He's not making this up. If he's a good guy and you love each other, it'll work...
  2. Thanks Booksrfun, I ordered a kit and am anxious to get it going. I didn't want to waste my money on something that isn't worthwhile. Did your doctor accept the results as valid?
  3. Dear Moderator: Please email me at Debrmrt9@aol.com; I'd like to ask if you can remove my post from a certain board. I'll discuss why in our private email conversation (it's not a bad reason), but I'll explain. Thanks, Deb
  4. Anyone use York? What's your experience been? Do you recommend it?
  5. I'd be more afraid to get blood from a "normal" person who eats gluten.

    ARCHIVED Nutritionalists

The nutritionist we saw knew about as much as I did. I got my info from library and CSA. I went there expecting superior knowledge and all we got were the same things I ran into during my research. Unless the celiac disease patient is utterly clueless, the nutritionist is a waste of money. I feel the nutritionist should have Betty Hagman's books in...

    ARCHIVED Health Insurance

Calico: RE: Health Insurance It appears that they are not denying you coverage, but seriously increasing the price. In order to find out if this is legal, you must call the Dept. of Insurance in your home state. I am in insurance for a living so in one way it makes sense to me, but as the wife of a celiac, it doesn't. Why it doesn't make sense...
  8. Sorry to be a pest, but I recall some board "members" mentioned that they are going to use York Allergy Test Lab for sensitivity testing. How was your experience? We'd like to use them, but wanted to "talk" to someone who has used them. Thanks, Debbie
  9. Anyone use this for food sensitivity testing? If yes, what was your opinion of it?
  10. Hi all I do go out with friends and family. Most of the time it's without my husband and he's fine with that. For crying out loud, she and I go out together (dinner, movies, etc.) - she knows I want and like to do that! Just lately I haven't had the time to do it. The last time my friend commented on the co dependency thing was when I mentioned...
  11. Hi All My husband is celiac and he doesn't use computer so I read the posts to him or print them out and we discussed this topic. I think the reaction he most gets is that other people think he's making this disease up and/or that it's all in his head...He had been misdiagnosed for 26ish years with IBS, etc. so to people celiac is just another ...
  12. My info was taken from healthcentral.com; looking up two similar diseases: beriberi and Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome The root of both diseases is thiamine deficiency except Wenicke-Korsakoff states that minimal or moderate alcohol use is a factor while it is not in Beriberi. However, I show Wernicke as it involves the same factors - malaborption...
  13. Dear Whoelse: I don't have this, but I learned that Beri Beri or B1 deficiency is a result of the malnutrition from malabsorption of celiac. A person can have a thiamine deficiency without having celiac. My brother had it & he's not celiac - his was from another cause. Once he got B1 injections the symptoms subsided and now he's on vitamins and...
  14. Let me begin by stating that I am celebrating my 25th Wedding Anniversary on 7/14. My husband was newly diagnosed last Oct 03 but has been ill for the past 27ish years (I am forgetting how long we've been dealing with his digestive disorder, I know he got sick while we were engaged). Anyway, in Feb he said he wanted a big party for our Anniversary...
  15. Thankfully we have our answers - now it's our jobs to take this info out to those who don't know about celiac disease. Just this week the National Institutue of Health ended a 3 day conference regarding the under diagnosing of celiac disease (for info go to CNN.com - the article will be available until 7/30/04 at least). The conference confirmed what...
  16. www.freedavitamins.com Gluten free and also free of other ingredients which might be unacceptable for other food sensitivities. Also kosher.
  17. That is horrible. Husband gets sick from small amounts of cross contam; he needs this in his food like a hole in his shoe! To whom do we state our case against this?
  18. Tom What do you know about Billy Bob that we don't know?
  19. Please let us know what the results of the tests are... Not only can children get skeletal, but my husband is too due to 25 yeas of mis diagnosed celiac. Since he started gluten-free diet in Oct 03 he has only gained back 1.5 lbs. I can do that in a day! His sister refuses to get tested, yet she too is painfully thin and has had RA for years...
  20. Welcome and hello Yorkshire family! Hope all is well with you and your family. Let us know how the test results go. Do doctors in England test for celiac immediately when a patient comes to them with intestinal symptoms of celiac, or do they putter around like American doctors and give IBS or collitis as the diagnosis? Are there Gluten Free restaurants...
  21. Thank you celiac3270 for that info, I am a semi newbie and some of that I didn't know either. As to bread, to the original poster I can say that we prefer Gluten Free Pantry white bread mix to any store bought. I've adapted it to how my husband likes it. I add real eggs, a teaspoon of salt, some rice bran, a teaspoon of light cream and real butter...
  22. celiac3270 Where did you find the Food by George gluten-free Corn Muffins? At a store or do they let you order directly from them? Thanks, Debbie
  23. We had the same neutral experience at nutritionist. From the date of the diagnosis to the date of the nutritionist's appt. we already knew everything she told us due to our own investigation at library and internet. If I were a nutritionist/dietian I'd have an updated CSA Gluten Free product listing manual to show the patient that it exists, I'd have...
  24. P.S. Don't let a doctor tell you how you should feel. If you improve on the gluten free diet then you can assume that you have at the least a sensitivity to wheat or gluten. Years ago a well respected gastro here in NJ from a large and famous medical group told me that my husband didn't have a malabsorption problem. Through his bifocaled eyes he...
  25. To j9n: I too had uterine fibroids as large as a 3 month pregnancy. When they removed them, the surgeon told me that my uterus adhesions and was attached to my intestines. Furthermore, the intestines were looped wrong and were adhesed to one another. After the removal of the fibroids, I felt better and can say that I did have intestinal problems due...
