  1. * show should be "now" as "she now is absorbing again"
  2. Being from a family of pharmaceutical chemists, I have to throw this idea in: many pharmaceutical compounds actually do come from nature. They are not just making chemicals up in a lab. They'll use certain tree bark for aspirin or herbs or enzymes from other animals, estrogen from natural sources, etc. I am talking about bona fide drug companies...
  3. Can we also add to the Alieve question, the gluten-free question : which brand name aspirins are gluten-free? Someone in a prior post directed me to a site which used to be free and now they charge for this information (Clan Thompson I believe). Thank you from both of us.
  4. I wish there was a support group closer to us. I am in Elizabeth, NJ and both support groups are at least an hour's drive away (they meet on week nights). To many of you who live in areas with low population you probably drive that long to go to a super-store, so a drive of this nature doesn't seem strange to you. But here in NJ that's bumper to...
  5. Holgrain brand rice bread crumbs very good.....they are a fine powdery type of crumb - better for breading chicken, eggplant, or in meatballs, etc. Wouldn't be good for chicken/turkey stuffing.
  6. Nailehead: My husband was misdiagnosed IBS for about 26 years. He too has been ruined by this disease slowly over the years; and like Jaime, abdominal musculature is so thinned down that he had 3 going on 4 hernias because of the lack thereof. I don't believe that the blood tests for IgG or IgA - celiac - were around 10 years ago (if someone can correct...
  7. Thank you celiac3270. You always come through.
  8. Kvoqt: It is admirable that you are adhering to all of the Catholic Church's teachings, as oppposed to the "cafeteria-style" of most Catholics, such as some who agree with birth control and abortion, etc. If only all Catholics adhered this way... I hope that the Vatican will relent and allow the 100% gluten-free host as Canon Law. This will...
  9. We had to stop using all of Arrowhead Mill products because of cross-contam problems. This is really a problem because they are touted as "Ok" by dietitians and nutrionists and health food store workers. Only celiacs know the truth. Perhaps you can find soy flour made by Ener-G? They have website.
  10. Dear BR, what is gastroparesis? Deb OK to email me.
  11. When we used flour, I used to use the Orinique Farms (CT) frozen pie shells. Now that we are gluten-free I make the Gluten Free pantry pie crust mix and my non celiac family members (in laws & such) thought the crust was better than wheat crust. They want to use gluten-free Pantry mix just for the taste of it. One bag of it makes enough for...
  12. Thanks for this info. I thought that those weevils were only found in wheat flour. Since I have no wheat flour any longer I thought I was forever rid of those pests. I heard that if you place a fresh leaf of basil on the shelf, it keeps them away. That's a natural remedy. I don't know if it works or not....

    ARCHIVED Itchy Ears

Cathey I have no suggestions as my husband is going thru almost the same thing. The skin errupts close to his ear canal (not in it thankfully). I'd sure like to know what to use that would help it (other than gluten-free diet and gluten-free skin lotions). Deb
  14. I've noticed that too about doctors who are in research or teaching; their bedside manner is clipped and cold. They are good at what they do, but maybe they don't like having a "practice" either but must see patients due to contractual obligations to the hospital that they are affilated with or just need the $$ as research may not pay a lot....... If...
  15. Maybe you should tell her that eating a "pinch" of the gluten is equivalent to her/him eating a "pinch" of rodent droppings in the food. Just a little shouldn't bother you!!
  16. My Dad died of pancreatic cancer but was not celiac. I am not celiac (my husband is). However, my Dad's pancreatic cancer symptoms were exactly like my husband's celiac. Diarrhea, intestinal pain, malabsorption, stomach gurgling sounds, weight loss, fatigue -- the only thing he had that was not celiac-sounding was back pain on the right going around...
  17. RE: Bilirubin levels I am not a medical professional, but I must say this: If any of you have high bilirubin levels along with a deep pain back ache on right side immediately tell your doctor. The other symptom I'd be concerned about is diarrhea, but with a celiac that would be hard to determine if it was from the celiac or a pancreas problem. Sometimes...

    ARCHIVED Thirst

Isn't there a celiac related disease that causes dry eyes and mouth? I can't recall the name of this condition. Perhaps your thirst is really this?
  19. I once sighted Heinz tomato soup at Wegman's in their international aisle. Unfortunately at the time I had no idea that there are 2 versions (USA vs UK). I assume that since it was in the International Aisle, it was from UK. Next time I am there I'll have to look closer.....
  20. Gigimom: I agree with Richard. -- Many, many years before my husband was diagnosed as having Celiac Disease, he was misdiagnosed by no less than 4 gastroenterologists as having IBS or colitis. My point is, just because the person has a medical degree it doesn't mean that they are always correct. Heck, we ran into 4 of them! Sometimes professional...
  21. Bunniegirl: This is one of the biggest concerns: which are OK foods and are not OK. I agree with the notebook method as it keeps your research in one place. My method is I purchased the CSA manual and it's in a 3 ring binder. I get the product brochures from the manufacturers which list their gluten-free products and I punch holes in the pages and...
  22. Big Scott: Regarding your back pain....did your doctor check your pancreas? Sometimes when this organ isn't working right, you'll get back aches as you describe.
  23. I was so scared when my husband was diagnosed with celiac disease that I no longer buy gluten foods (except: Lean Cuisine frozen for myself and my whole wheat bread which the opening is tied up tight and I clean off the table after I make my lunch for work with it. ) If I can buy the same product gluten-free I do so. It helps keep the kitchen sane and...
  24. The gluten-free drug site states that Bufferin is gluten-free EXCEPT for the 325 mg size. I wanted to know if Bayer is gluten-free. I'll have to go to grocery store & get their toll free # before I purchase it.
  25. Dear Concerned Cook: The plain foods for my husband I admit are not exciting, but he is further restricted and cannot eat fruits and vegetables (except potatoes - white and sweet are ok of course) nor can he tolerate spices. I asked for garlic chicken and plain mashed potatoes on the buffet to keep things simple for the caterer that we used. ...
