  1. Avon has an 800 phone number; I have temporarily misplaced it; your Avon rep should have it and/or it should be on their website. this being said, I have to make a warning here : I had the "devil" in me one day and I called the Avon 800 number to ask specifically if the body lotion with Oat in it was gluten free.. ....well the rep is overseas...
  2. Linda: My husband has celiac (gluten intolerance) and is also allergic to wheat, soy, yeast, corn, egg yolk, milk, some nuts, some spices (garlic) ......so yes, there can be gluten intolerance concurrent with food allergies. The food allergies could go away, but gluten intolerance does not. Food allergies can cause "gut" reactions like celiac...
  3. I have no answers for you but felt that you needed someone to reach out. My husband has celiac (never uses computer) and I don't ... I am wondering if you have a false negative to gluten and/or a wheat or other major food allergy (like soy allergy) as food allergies give the same "gut" reaction. The negative test results doesn't mean that...
  4. Me too! But I'm from NJ and I no, I don't own a gun...... She is going to have #14 out in June....I pre-reserved... *************************************************************************** I have a system where for every 2-3 fiction books I read, I read one non-fiction just to stay in the real world. I also like to alternate my fiction with...
  5. For me the problem with Gabaldon, is I believe her first book (?) what went on when Jaime was imprisoned... That killed it right there for me. I do the same thing you do (glance over and skip), but the prison stuff caught me off-guard and I didn't want to "trip" over that again, so I dropped Gabaldon from my author list. I tried to read The Stand...
  6. celiac disease is not a man/woman thing. anyone who has an intestine can be diagnosed with celiac. My husband has celiac, not me. Maybe women go for testing and get diagnosed more because overall men avoid doctors, so they suffer in silence (or with much whine-ing while refusing to go to the doctor)? Anyway, upper endoscopy is the procedure...
  7. Maybe when we mention a book we should say if it's suitable or not for a teenager to read. I realize that some parents would probably like to know that as it's hard to know it before you purchase the book. There's no ratings (G,PG, PG-13, R) on books..... It's funny in thinking about movie ratings...when I was a young teen "Franco Zefferelli's Romeo...
  8. True that treating them will make them "calm" down but they will not be reabsorbed by the body - they'll shrink but they'll always be there to be irritated. If you are doing all the "calming" down methods and you stopped having diarrhea and it's been let's say about 6-8 weeks and you are still seeing blood or burning/itching then you probably still...
  9. I am in the middle of Wicked by Gregory Maguire The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West It's an allegorical fantasy - very well written. I haven't read anything this "dense" in years. (by dense I mean it's not "fluff" writing like Daniele Steele type is). I am having a difficult time unraveling the allegory - it's political...
  10. I am severely lactose intolerant....I am from a "lactose-intolerant" population. I have been using Lactaid since it first came out 20 years ago. When it first came out it was a liquid and you dropped the enzyme into the milk carton, shook it up and waited 24 hrs for the enzyme to work. I wish they made both the drops and the pills as the drops were...
  11. constipation and other excessive bowel movements will aggravate them there are ways to calm them down (Calmol 4 suppositories -the best of these products, Balneol lotion - expensive but worth it - it's a perianal cleanser as you can sting from using soap, sitz bath) but they won't go away on their own. Most of the time a doctor, called a Protologist...
  12. Just looking for some suggestions: old and new titles; fiction and non fiction
  13. You're right to be concerned about this - if it is a hemmie as other poster mentioned, then this will keep happening until you get them taken care of; if not, then you need an evaluation of the problem to see exacty what is going on.
  14. 1) also possibly working Sundays if you don't have a route and work inside 2) If you are in icy-winter cold areas and/or are prone to colds and bronchitis it might not be a good idea to deliver mail 3) Top problem however I see is BATHROOM facilities....I'd gladly let my mail carrier use my bathroom if he asked me on the "QT" to use it. I...
  15. Lisa I have often wondered (web site quoted above) 1) Who makes this list? 2) How often is it updated? 3) Can we trust it?
  16. The Trader Joe's in Westfield is a waste of time. It is not stocked with the same gluten free foods as the other Trader Joe's in other areas of state/country. Even the Whole Foods in Millburn doesn't stock the same gluten free foods as their store in West Orange. You might want to try the Whole Foods West Orange store then. Our local A&P was...
  17. Open Original Shared Link This info was complied for 2006 - check with your individual state if any changes have occurred; but this should give you an overview of health insurance rules in your state or if you are moving, in the state you are moving to.
  18. Ken What does it taste like? Yes, it was in the movie when I watched it yesterday that they spoke about breadfruit....I thought they meant grapefruit but my hearing was "off." Debbie

ARCHIVED I Do Not Know What To Do

Hope you start feeling better. Your post reminded me of when I first heard that a glutenfree diet is similar to the "caveman diet" - meat. My husband lives on animal products as he cannot digest fruits and vegetables (gets the same thing you do: pieces of it in his stool and maldigestion all day and night). he misses fruits and vegetables. He...
  20. Anyone familar with this vegetable/fruit? I suppose it's gluten free but what does it taste like? Where can I buy it? (north east coast USA)

ARCHIVED How Do We Make This Better?

One would think that the health insurance industry would have a "vested" interest in this...

ARCHIVED How Do We Make This Better?

The Celiac Sprue Assn. has a "doctor" packet which I don't recall if they send to a doctor or you buy it from them and send it to the doctor. The packet contains up to date info especially written for doctors. The problem is: would a doctor have the time and inclination to read it?
  24. The way I look at it, if this "Gluten-zyme" over the counter pill worked, why then are two pharmaceutical companies working on a pill for gluten sensitivity in the gut? I am leery of a health food store person pushing a pill which has dubious claims -- you gotta look at the money angle here. For celiac disease, it's the proteins that do the damage...
