  1. I'm allergic to soy, peas, garbanzo beans, and other beans/legumes. I get hives, asthma, my throat starts to swell shut, eczema, stomach pains and diarrhea. I have to carry an epipen because of it. Really sucks because soy is in everything. Corns the other of my allergies that is the most difficult to avoid. My son is allergic too. He gets all bloated, gassy...
  2. I was very sick my whole pregnancy too. I barfed every day and ended up with preeclempsia too. My sons gastroenterologist at children's told me to hold off on introducing the more allergenic food into my sons diet, and she added that peanuts should not be introduced to any child's diet until at least 3. Not only because it's so allergenic, but because...
  3. My son's been a slow eater since the day he was born. Even before leaving the hospital he was labeled as a "lazy, insufficient sucker." I was like, "great, they're already labeling him...." Maybe he's just enjoying his food, or easily distracted. With my son I set him at a little tikes table in the living room and just keep reminding him to eat his food...
  4. My son is severly allergic to milk and soy, beans and legumes and corn, and his pediatric GI at Children's hospital has been telling me to keep him on a "hypoallergenic" diet. He can eat wheat without a problem, and oats. He eats no milk, soy, corn, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, beans, legumes, and he has reflux and gastritis. He eats a lot of rice...
  5. It's not right for you to be treated that way at all. I'm deathly allergic to milk and I can't even be around pizza or risk anaphylectic shock. Some of the people I work with bring food into the studio and I have to tell them I can't be anywhere near it, and they usually go to the breakroom to eat. I stay far away from the breakroom. What would they do...
  6. What age were you diagnosed with celiac's/gluten intolerance? 28 What were your most common symptoms? diarrhea, food allergies, stomach pain, nausea, fatigue, depression What are your symptoms when you eat gluten now? The same. If I eat even a small amount now it seems worse though, and I've developed new food allergies from just being glutened...
  7. Some carbs are really good for you. I guess it depends on what kind and how much.
  8. My son had to start solids early because of his reflux. He did have rice cereal, but I bought the Cream of Rice stuff because it is definitly gluten free. I also started him with strained squash and sweet potatos, carrots and stuff like that. I started him on beans and peas too young though, and he is allergic to them now (as I am).
  9. Benadryl's website says they can't say they are not gluten free because of the possibility of cross contamination. I get the runs terrible from it.
  10. Hmmm...it's pretty common knowledge that eating more calories than you use makes you gain fat. Eating less calories helps you lose. I tend to stya away from these fad diets that claim certain food groups will make you fat. It's not good to exclude whole groups, especially when your have celiacs and your diet is already very limited.
  11. I hate stirring. It's a hard, goopy mess. And refrigerated it gets super hard!
  12. Congratulations on quitting smoking! It's the best thing for your health. At first you can get constipated, but it will regulate it's self. Try taking a stool softener.
  13. I can live without gluten, but I really miss dairy. I want a piece of cheese so bad, and maybe some real ice cream. Creamy mushroom soup, or pumpkin pie. I'd like to be able to eat turkey on thanks giving, but since I'm allergic to turkey I can't. I miss the convienence of dining out.
  14. I'm a class 3-4 with soy, and a class 2 with milk, eggs, corn, wheat, oats, and yeast. And a class 1 with turkey, tree nuts, fish, and coffee.
  15. She might have reflux on top of the food allergies, like my son. If you aren't taking her to a pediatric gastroenterologist now would be the time to do it. A medical expert would be able to tell you what is wrong with your child and how to best help her.
  16. Food allergies suck. Mine are fatal too. Yes, keep an epipen. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Keep the beadryl handy as well. I swear I should buy stock in the stuff. I suffer from asthma, hives, eczema, and reflux from my food allergies. I've been hoping that going gluten free would eventually make it better, but I don't know...
  17. I'm allergic to soy and make my own soy-free sauce. It'sd basically 8 ounces of molasses, mixed with 2 ounces of apple cider vinegar, and a couple TBS of sugar. It's really good.
  18. I've had reflux since birth and so has my son. He was on ranitidine at only a few weeks old, and then moved to prilosec twice a day at about 5 months and has been taking it since. They didn't have those meds when I was a kid. My mom would give me baking soda mixed with water. When I was a teenaged I would keep mylanta in my school locker and take swigs of...
  19. Wow, glutening yourself aside, that's a lot of food! Even someone without celiacs could get sick from all that grease and stuff. Remember, you are not cheating...well, maybe cheating YOURSELF out of a healthy, pain-free existence. Of course it's easy for me to say. If I even eat a small amount of some of the things I am allergic to I can die of anaphelectic...
  20. Thanks for the list. I wonder if that's what is making my stomach hurt bad for days, even when gluten free, and it gets all swollen. I've had a sore swollen belly for going on 3 days straight without a break. I am planning on going to the doctor Monday if it's still there. :/
  21. No probelm. Who knows? Maybe it will work great for you. I know some people seem to thrive on it, and others seem to do better on atkins, etc. I kind of do the "eat what I can" diet.
  22. I even had reflux while gluten free. I get serious breathing problems from it since I've been a life long sufferer. My son has it, my mom does,a nd bothmy sisters! I will probably be onthe nexium as long as it keeps working. Though I haven't noticed any side effects. What sort of side effects can it cause?
  23. I used to be a vegan before developing all these allergies. I was allergic to just milk, and was a vegetarian, so I just went vegan. I was over-weight and tried McDougall. I don't think it's very healthy. Despite what Mcdougall says people do need fat and protein in their diets. I started losing my hair, but that could have been from the undiagnosed celiacs...
  24. Wow, I'm sorry. It would be especially hard for a teenager. I was in my late 20's when I was diagnosed and already had a bunch of food allergies from the disease. On the bright side, at least he was diagnosed early enough that he might avoid having the other complications from the condition.
  25. I'm sure I'm not pregnant. Besides, my nausea was much much worse with pregnancy. I have been a little stressed lately, which could also have an impact on it. And definitly forget the eggs! They make me super sick! The only medicine I take is nexium. My doctor doesn't like prescribing too much since I have so many allergies to foods and drugs...
