ARCHIVED How Much Juice Does Your Toddler Drink?
wonkabar replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
At absolute most, my son will drink 8 oz of juice if he drinks any at all during the day. I never believed in giving him, or my daughter who is now 21 months, juice when he was younger. To me, a juice box was empty calories. In fact, over the summer, I *just* started letting him have the Apple & Eve's Sesame Street juice boxes...he's 3 1/2. He'll go... -
ARCHIVED Gluten = Opiate? Help Appreciated
wonkabar replied to newyorkdave's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for sharing, and I'm glad you're starting to feel better. Shame on the medical community for not being well versed in Celiac Disease and letting people like you, and so many others, suffer for so long. -
ARCHIVED Thanksgiving
wonkabar replied to skipper30's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am soooooooo glad you posted about Thanksgiving. I was just thinking about it a couple of weeks ago and thought people might think I was nuts posting about it that early!! -
ARCHIVED Gluten = Opiate? Help Appreciated
wonkabar replied to newyorkdave's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you don't mind me asking, what type of symptoms did you have? -
ARCHIVED Went To Gi Today. . He Said It Isn't Celiac
wonkabar replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
At the risk of sounding like a boob, is there really such a Dx of toddler diarrhea? That is the most assinine thing I've heard. A toddler shouldn't have diarrhea like that without some type of *real* problem. I don't know a lot about the bloodwork, however I do understand it to be a postive result if the IgA is elevated regardless of the number. ... -
ARCHIVED A Couple Of Random Questions
wonkabar replied to wonkabar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I do appreciate your honesty, but this truly wasn't about being overly sensitive or being angry about it. I have a lot more things going on in my life that I could be sensitive to or could create stress...trust me, this isn't one of them! It was simply a frank opinion and put out there as food for thought; I'm a big believer in perspective. No one owes... -
ARCHIVED A Couple Of Random Questions
wonkabar replied to wonkabar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow, Karen! You've sure been through a lot! I hope you've started to feel better. It still amazes me that someone could be that sick and no one can figure out why. This must've been very scary. Thanks for sharing! And, no, you didn't ramble. It's easy to type a lot and not know it! Thanks for the search tip; I'll certainly give that a try! ... -
ARCHIVED A Couple Of Random Questions
wonkabar replied to wonkabar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for empathizing! I'm honestly not sure how to make these posts more interesting; I've seen tons of replies on posts that didn't have exciting titles. I truly don't think I should have to figure out a way to make them more interesting...it is what it is. Honestly, what seems to have happened in the past few months is that this forum has become more... -
ARCHIVED A Couple Of Random Questions
wonkabar replied to wonkabar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you for your reply, Karen! As terrible as it is, I not only want enough info to bring to the doctor, but based on the awful experience with my son's ped. GI, I feel as if I need to go in with a "pre-emptive attack". Not all doctors are idiots...not by any means. However with something as peripheral as Celiac Disease to many of them, I wanted... -
What does it mean when a new topic is posted with a blue box that also has white in the corner?? (EDIT: I'm not the most technically oriented person in the world!

ARCHIVED A Couple Of Random Questions
wonkabar replied to wonkabar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know this probably isn't the most interesting thread, but *any* advice you could offer regarding my GI visit would be helpful. I'm not quite sure how to make this thread more exciting or inviting, but I honestly did think I'd get more than two replies. It's rather discouraging. Thank you to the two people who did reply! When I first joined this... -
ARCHIVED A Couple Of Random Questions
wonkabar replied to wonkabar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks! I haven't been tested through Enterolab myself...just my son. I thought that his results would bring a little more valididty as to why I wanted to be screened. I'll definitely write up information to bring with me; that's why I've put out a couple of these questions. I want to have as much info with me as possible not to mention I'm bound to forget... -
ARCHIVED When Should Symptoms Improve?
wonkabar replied to CantEvenEatRice's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son also has eczema that has improved dramatically since he was a baby; I have seen a correlation to his eczema clearing up and removing gluten although it took awhile. That's the only major difference in his diet. He has had some flare ups this year but has been relatively "clear" lately; I haven't had to use his Rx in awhile. Eczema is very common... -
My son also has an egg allergy; he's specifically allergic to egg whites. He showed up positive in the scratch test and labs. He had a severe reaction at 1 y/o to a healthy frozen omlet...came to fine out it was a cheese and egg white omlet! That being said, he can have eggs as long as it's not a primary ingredient (ie, french toast, quiche, egg salad...

ARCHIVED Celiac And Food Allergies
wonkabar replied to AmyTopolski's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi! I would say *yes*, food allergies are definitely common. My son is allergic to peanuts, egg whites and tomatoes. He also has eczema and seasonal allergies in addition to all of the issues with gluten. MANY people on this forum have additional food allergies/intolerances. -
I agree. The fact that the medical correspondent specifically stated that it's no longer looked at as a disease specifically related to horrific gi symptoms was clutch! I loved the fact that they listed associated symptoms that weren't specific to gi problems. I thought it was great that they mentioned neurological symptoms and reccurent miscarriages.

ARCHIVED A Couple Of Random Questions
wonkabar posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi! I'm trying to jot stuff down and get my ducks in a row so I have all the info I need when I go to the GI on Thursday. So here go my random questions........... 1) Should I bring my son's Enterolab results in addition to my negative/inconclusive labs?? 2) Does anybody have an issue with not properly metabolizing Folic Acid? After tons... -
YIPPEE!! I thought the segment was great! I honestly didn't expect it to be much longer than a 5 minute segment. They touched upon a lot in a brief amount of time. In fairness to them, they *did* give Celiac Disease a major boost in mainstream media and couldn't possibly get into all of the symptoms and related issues in a "segment". Kudos to CBS for...

ARCHIVED I Need A Really, Really Good Chocolate Cake Recipe
wonkabar replied to prinsessa's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use Gluten-Free Pantry's Danielle's Chocolate Cake Mix...It's been great each time. I like it so much that I order it in bulk on-line! I've always made cupcakes for the kids with this mix. I frost them with Duncan Hines frosting and sprinkle them with non-perrils (sp?)....nobody ever knows they're gluten-free!! I make the recipe with Columbo vanilla... -
I'm gonna Tivo it...that's dinner time with the kiddies. How exciting!

OOO, nailpolish! (I hope you all don't mind if I jump in!) I go with all different colors, BUT my toes and hands always match...a little Type A!! Right now I have a pink cast on my left hand (I tore a ligament in my wrist--ouch!) and my nails have always been some shade of pink or a french manicure for the past few weeks so I don't clash with my cast...

It's funny you wrote about breadcrumbs...this is exactly what I was coming on to ask about!! I haven't tried any gluten-free bread crumbs and was wondering what brands are recommended. Thanks! PS- the mushrooms sound yummy!!

Flukes can happen for a reason...we just happened to be watching MSNBC when Keith Olberman *briefly* mentioned Celiac Disease and put up a website address. We had never heard of it and decided to look it up. Much to our suprise (and shock) it was as if we were reading about our son. We now had a name for what was wrong with him and, better yet, we now...

ARCHIVED Not Serious?
wonkabar replied to Ophelia42's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It takes a lot to bring me to a loss of words, but I am. Well, okay, maybe not... Is he for real??!! Is this guy really a GI doctor?? "so many people are Dx" and "it won't kill you"? UNBELIEVABLE!! Good Lord, is he talking about the common cold or Celiac Disease??!! I agree with all of the previous posters...immediately eliminate gluten... -
ARCHIVED Immumoglobin A
wonkabar replied to wonkabar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the explanation. I appreciate your reply! I'm not sure if you read more of my post, but these are some things (from a previous post of mine) that seem a bit "off" to me. Had I not tirelessly researched Celiac b/c of Zachary, I wouldn't have even known these "symptoms" could be related in some way. excerpt from my previous post: Regarding...
