  1. Aint that the truth! As a mom of a little one with ADHD, isn't amazing what such seemingly benign things like the sound of a lawn mower could do??!! If you haven't read the book ADHD: Life Without Brakes by Dr. Martin Kutscher, I would defintely buy it. It's an excellent book for parents (and grandparents). I feel so sad for my little guy sometimes. ...
  2. My just 5 year-old son was given a primary Dx of ADHD with a comorbid Dx of Anxiety Disorder and Sensory Processing Disorder in Nov. 2007 (at 4 1/2). He also has a Central Auditory Processing Delay. ALL of these difficulties are very common in children with ADHD; it's soooooooooooooo much more than hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention. Behavioral...
  3. Does anyone know if Best's Hot Dogs are gluten-free? Thanks!
  4. Hi! This information is very last minute........... I just found this information about the National Sensory Processing Disorder Conference. It will be held in Orlando, FL on February 23 and 24.[/color] Carol Stock Kranowitz is the Keynote Speaker; she's the author of The Out-of-Sync Child. The "course" descriptions sound great!! My little guy...
  5. The February 2007 issue of Woman's Day had an article titled Diseases Doctors Miss (page 66). Once I saw this title, the first thing I did was flip the pages to see if Celiac Disease was listed...and it was! It was a brief but decent blurb that included someone's story, common symptoms, Dx, treatment a link to celiac.org and the 800-number for the Celiac...
  6. My son has eaten Wendy's fries quite a few times without any issues...watch, I probably jinxed myself! If you call, ask to speak to a manager and be *very* specific about what you mean by a dedicated frier. I have to say that the Wendy's by me has been incredibly helpful and mindful of the need for gluten-free. When I order my son's plain burger...
  7. I just spoke to organic's and the meat manager. The manager confirmed that their spiral ham is infact gluten-free.
  8. What a cutie!! I know the diaper rash all too well!! My little guy had a blistering, bleeding diaper rash for nearly two years; it was awful. I felt so badly for him. Anyway, the *only* thing that helped it to heal was an ointment called Triple Paste. If you do a search here on the forum, you should come up with a link. I posted all of it's info in...
  9. Ah! I just *love* homemade chicken soup with or without a cold! I have it in the freezer all of the time. It's easy, cheap and yummy....you've gotta like that! I've never heard of the hot lemonade thing though. Is it as simple as warming up homemade lemonade?
  10. FYI...Just spoke to someone on the Novartis help-line and Triaminic Cough and Runny Nose is gluten free. Happy Cold and Flu Season to you and yours!
  11. *Hormel Turkey Pepperoni *Sorrento Moons and Stars cheese *Ener-g pretzels *Tostios ("circle chips") with toppings like melted cheddar. salsa and guacamole *Terra brand Exotic Vegetable Chips (my kids love these) *Sweet and Sour Turkey Meatballs (made with gluten-free breadcrumbs...sauce is equal parts of Heinz Chili Sauce and Welch's Grape Jelly...
  12. "Traditional" testing for toddlers is very often inaccurate. My son's labs were negative, and we also chose not to put him through the biopsy. We weren't willing to put him under anesthesia if we could simply remove gluten from his diet to see if if helped him. He was 3 at the time and is now 3 1/2. His growth was always above average BUT he was always...
  13. OMG, yes!! I love the Johnny Mathis Christmas collections. That is my favorite JM christmas tune! I have several of them...this, of course, is the brunt of jokes from my friends!
  14. I was on a low-dose of Effexor-XR. I did not have a difficult time with the withdrawl process...my doctor had me do it very slowly. However, I have heard nightmares of people coming off of Effexor. My bestfriend had been on Zoloft for quite sometime and recently stopped taking it without any issues. I agree with Richard; a lot of these medications depend...
  15. Keith Olberman is the A-NUMBER ONE REASON my son is gluten-free and no longer miserable. I know I've posted this before, but for those of you who don't know......... My husband and I were watching MSNBC one night during the Michael Jackson trial. Keith Olberman was auctioning off these ridiculously, stupid-funny tounge depressor puppets he used to...
  16. My 3 1/5 year-old son had a WILD reaction after eating Quaker rice cake mini's. He was an absolute beast and had awful GI symptoms the entire week he ate them. It was the only thing different in his diet and as soon as we eliminated them his behavior improved 100%. Gluten has a major impact on his behavior. In fact we see this more readily than overt...
  17. Hi! Thanks for the insight. I'll give them another try. I have found that when using their chocolate chip cookie mix if I make a bigger cookie and bake them just a bit less than reccomended they are chewier. This is an excellent mix as well. And, YES they are expensive!!
  18. Hi Nini- Have you found that the gluten-free Pantry Cake and Cookie Mix comes out dry? I've used it a couple of times and the cookies (snickerdoodles) were really dry and crumbly. I wound up throwing it out! (OUCH!! $$$) I keep hearing about their pie crust and look forward to trying it. I'll have to try the Quick Mix, too. **I forgot to add...
  19. I'm a big fan of the Gluten Free Pantry mixes. I often use their all purpose flour and make things like Nestle Toll House cookies. They're delicious and no one can tell. I plan on using this for my christmas cookies. I use their brownie mix which is absolutely decadent as well as their chocolate cake mix for cupcakes...I have a 3 1/2 year old and 2 year...
  20. Thanks! (Stepping onto my soapbox for a moment... )When I was still teaching, the K-4 school I worked at started a holiday toy drive for Toys for Tots. I thought it was a wonderful idea until I found out that there was also a contest to win a Beanie Baby. In order to increase the donations, the child's name would be entered to win a "hot" Beanie...
  21. I can't bah-humbug because I absolutely, positively love Christmas. BUT, I refuse to over-induldge my kids (they're 3 1/2 and nearly 2). Last year they got such a ridiculous amount of stuff/toys that I wound up returning most of what Santa left at our house from us b/c there was no way that two kids could play with or *needed* that much stuff. This year...
  22. For home and school.......good luck! Hormel Turkey Pepperoni (My kids LOVE this!) cheese Kozy Shack Rice Pudding Jell-o Choc. Pudding cups Tings (Robert's American Gourmet) Pirate's Booty (Robert's American Gourmet) Ener-G gluten-free pretzels Jiffy-pop Popcorn (I use the 100 calorie packs b/c they're smaller.) rolled up turkey slices Terra...
  23. My girlfriend lives in NY state only a few minutes away from a place called the Gluten Free Bread Basket. You can find them on the web. She's "imported" chocolate chip cookies (awesome and big! ), snickerdoodles, unseasoned breadcrumbs (My meatloaf came out fine....I just added the same seasonings/cheese as the Progresso Italian BC) and country bread...
  24. My son is 3 1/2 and hs been gluten-free since he was just 3 y/o. We've successfully gone out to eat many times. Some of it is trial and error, but the biggest part of it being a success is *planning ahead* I agree with the previous posters that bringing food with you is always an excellent idea; I don't ever leave home with out gluten-free food in my diaper...
