  1. i occasionally watch the children of a lady in our neighborhood, and she has a celiac friend who cheats often because her reactions aren't as bad as they used to be. i think her friend's cheating gives this lady a wrong impression of the seriousness of the condition. when i told her about my diagnosis, (she was offering me forbidden snacks) she acted like...
  2. i've eaten the bun-less quarter pounder with cheese, and i haven't had a problem. of course, my glutening responses aren't as bad as others. ordering goes better if you go inside, speak loudly, and explain the situation as simply as possible. in the drive-thru, it's a crap shoot. and don't hesitate to take something back.
  3. i couldn't imagine not having the support of my family through all of this celiac madness. you sound like you are incredibly disciplined and are trying to maintain your health for your family--even if they are giving you grief the entire way. as for their advice, my grandmother was told last year that she didn't need a pap test every year because she...
  4. i felt like i slept for 3 months after i was diagnosed. seriously, every time my butt hit the couch, i fell asleep. even at other people's houses, and sometimes on the commute to school. if you think about it, it makes sense. your body is finally able to repair itself after years of damage--it's not going to happen over night. i was diagnosed in february...
  5. haven't we all learned if you can eat it, someone somewhere can deep fry it. like milky ways, or snickers, or onions, or pig skin, etc.
  6. it was a party for my mom's art students--definitely not spiked punch. and the ginger ale brand by itself has never brought on a reaction. maybe it was something else...
  7. if you've ever shoved someone out of their own bathroom... true story. also, if you know the location of all the most private stalls at your workplace, campus, etc. again, true story. ground floor, lewis science center. just in case any of you are ever at the university of central arkansas.
  8. i'm pretty sure the "natural flavor" in blue bunny rainbow sherbert is suspect. i was glutened after drinking some punch made with it and ginger ale. i've ruled out almost everything else i ate that day. and it wasn't lactose intolerance reaction--it was a definite gluten-ing. beware of the bunny.
  9. i just left the hospital after visiting my grandfather--heart trouble. i wandered down to cafeteria but didn't get anything to eat. i could tell the chance of being glutened was too high! that got me thinking... if i'm in some sort of accident, all alone, and unable to tell them i'm celiac, am i up a creek? i have my dining card in my purse, but what...
  10. i've had eczema and dry, cracked, bleeding, embarrassing feet my entire life until i started using gold bond ultimate healing lotion. it's a thick cream and a little pricey, but you can find it at walmart (or whatever discount store you have). since i have used it, i didn't have a chapped forehead last winter, and i've been able to wear flip-flops without...
  11. i've just spent the last 30 minutes or so reading the ENTIRE thread, not because i want dirt on celebrities, but i wanted to feel a little more normal tonight. what can i say, i was craving pizza hut garlic toast with cheese. anyway, i find the dropping of names without actually dropping the names quite comical. i guess we all need validation without betraying...
  12. I totally understand your concerns. i've been gluten-free since February and am still underweight for my height. My gastro doctor is going to yell at me, but i can't seem to gain weight. i guess it's better than the alternative.
  13. i was diagnosed with celiac disease in February and have been sticking to the diet as best i can (although i'm sure i'm still dealing with contamination). i'm 24, almost 6 ft. tall, and i'm fighting to maintain 125 lbs. at my worst, i was 110 and falling. i'm drinking 1-2 weight-gainer ensures a day, eating (and hungry) almost constantly, taking a good...
