Welcome, Stephanie! You've found a great place with a wealth of information and camaradarie (I'll need spell check on THAT word).... I know it was hard being diagnosed just before the holidays, but consider it this way--you got your first holiday season under your belt right away! It will get easier. I've been diagnosed around 9 months and feel like...

ARCHIVED Does Toothpaste Have Gluten?
olalisa replied to Electra's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As for the toothpaste, crest toothpastes are all gluten free. I think colgate is as well, but you might want to double check on that. According to this website, Open Original Shared Link, the inhaler is okay, too. Check out the site, it's been a great help to me! Best, Lisa -
ARCHIVED Making New Members Feel Welcome
olalisa replied to Nantzie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Nantzie. Thanks so much for this post. I had brought up in an earlier thread (ysterday, I think) that I sometimes feel ignored here, and I had serious trepidation about posting that. People responded very kindly and with great insight to that comment, and to ALL I say thank you. I sometimes just lurk, I sometimes am too overwhelmed to read whole posts... -

ARCHIVED Endoscopy.
olalisa replied to MySuicidalTurtle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Turtle, this quote comes directly from this site. Go to the site index, then click on the section about testing and diagnosis and there's lots of good info. This comes from Dr. Peter Green. "What about the patient who seeks a diagnosis, but has already eliminated gluten from the diet? It is very difficult for many patients to go back on a gluten-containing... -

ARCHIVED Weak Positive?
olalisa replied to DebLewellen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I second what Momma Goose says. Your symptoms certainly sound like they could be celiac. Do push for the upper endosopy with the boipsies, as this will check for the blunting/flattening of the villi and is consideredd the "gold standard" diagnosis for celiac. Whatever your results turn out to be, if you feel better off gluten, there's your answer ... -

ARCHIVED Kimberly-clark
olalisa replied to srokie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here's the way I see it. Srokie came onto the board trying to be helpful with information that she believes to be true. I do think that her source on the toilet tissue is heresay and that we need clarification/documentation on the planter's statement from her doctor. When people questioned her, in a nice way, actually stating that they were not trying... -

ARCHIVED Triangle Support?
olalisa replied to SouthernCeliacGirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Welcome!! I'm from the Raleigh area and tried to contact the TGIG group numerous times. I finally emailed their webmaster after the other contact person never replied and he did write back. He basically said that the group isn't active (lack of attendance/interest) and that the leaders were just burned out. I'm trying to decide if I have enough time... -

ARCHIVED Bread Mixes
olalisa replied to lilmama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Let us know what you think -
I wasn't even sure what catagory to put this under since there isn't one called "stupid ways I've glutened myself." Two nights ago I began with symptoms and didn't sleep at ALL after 3 am. Yesterday was rough, to say the least. I thought it must have been the coffee shop I'd visited Friday night, but I called them yesterday, and we went back over what...

ARCHIVED How Do You Do Restaurants Without Making A Fuss....
olalisa replied to kbabe1968's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Momma Goose is exactly right. I always try to call ahead (at a non-peak time) and speak with a manager or even better the chef. When you get the chef, they'll sometimes even help you plan a meal right then and there on the phone, and have the wait staff alert them when you arrive. I also try to go at non-peak times when possible. I've worked as a waitress... -
Pei Wei has just opened a restaurant in our area. According to their website, they are owned by PF Changs, but I think you go through a line and order your food, then sit down and they bring it out. Has anyone tried them? What was your experience? From the website, it looks like they have the Spicy Chicken dish just like Changs. Oh, Happy Day!!

ARCHIVED Citricel--supposed To Be Safe?
olalisa posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I decided to take citricel to try to regulate my system, and for a day and a half, I've had serious GI symptoms and a terrible headache last night. I don't know of any gluten I could have gotten, but can citricel cause this? thanks. -

olalisa replied to kbabe1968's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Open Original Shared Link This is a great article I found which was so helpful to me. So much good information, and you really need to listen to the part about how to take care of yourself when dining out. I'm in my 9th month gluten free and really struggled with not wanting to seem "pushy" or "high maintainence" in restaurants. After a couple of...
