ARCHIVED Wdw & Universal gluten-free Trip Report
dionnek replied to FreeTime's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I will definitley contact the Pop and all restaurants we plan to eat at ahead of time. I did mention to the guy on the phone when I made the hotel reservations about my celiac, and he knew all about it and said he'd put a note on my reservations, but I will contact them again before we go. Since it is only 2 nights, we went with the "cheaper" hotel, but... -

Where did you stay in Disney? We are going in October and are just going to be in Disney for 2 nights, at the Pop Century. Plan on doing the character dinner at Chef Mickey's one night. I am the only celiac so don't need to worry about the kiddo (luckily - it's hard enough feeding an almost 2 year old!). Thanks so much for sharing! -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Or Kimball?
dionnek replied to dionnek's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Does that mean the stool tests are more reliable on young ones than the blood tests? That's another of my "cons" - that blood tests seem to be inconclusive for children under 3 (or 5?).... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Or Kimball?
dionnek posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I want to have my almost 2 year old daughter tested (I was recently diagnosed w/ celiac through biopsy and then blood tests - backwards, I know)- my daughter does not have any symptoms but I would like to have her tested to see if she has the gene (so I know if I have to worry about this in the future for her). I've heard good things about both Enterolab... -
ARCHIVED Bath And Body Works
dionnek replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
FYI - Bath and Body Works does list (in parenthesis) wheat, oats, barely, etc. on their products. I've got 2 lotions right here in my hand and was reading the ingredients after seeing this post - one is safe (with none of these ingredients and nothing else sounding "dangerous") and the other has the triticum vulgare, but it says "wheat" in parenthesis (of... -
This is the list of no no ingredients that I got from Loreal - same list came from Clinique also. Lots of things I've never heard of and wouldn't think were gluten! The following list of ingredients that are used in our products, are those that contain wheat and other grains. This list may also be used by the celiac patient to identify gluten-containing...

Neither - but it is better than rice milk I don't really like any of it for drinking, but the almond milk (I've only tried the vanilla flavored) is decent for cereal and baking. Any of the alternative milks will work for baking/cooking though.

ARCHIVED Blood Tests Positive For Celiac
dionnek replied to BostonCeliac's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your dr. told you to eat Rice Krispies, I think you need a new dr! Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles are ok, and supposedly there is a new Dora cereal that is ok, but the rest are "specialty" cereals that you have to find in the specialty sections of the grocery store or at Whole Foods, etc. (at least down here anyway). The Natures Path Honeyed Corn... -
ARCHIVED Lactose Intoleratn And Celiac
dionnek replied to Paigie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've only been gluten-free for 2 months now and at first was in denial about the dairy, but I am not feeling any better (still D about 8 times a day among other symptoms), so recently "cut back" on my dairy (still have a little bit of cheese in my food every now and then, or a scoop of ice cream and did notice that my D went down to about 4 times per day... -
ARCHIVED Help! I Don't Want To Cook!
dionnek replied to Camille'sBigSister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The rice for the risotto is called Vigo arborio rice (imported from Italy - it's in a small yellow bag). Funny, the recipe on the back calls for continuous stirring, but I just followed another recipe I had for the rice cooker - here it is: Rice cooker Asparagus and Mushroom risotto: 1 1/2Tbsp olive oil 1 1/2TBS butter or margarine 2 Tbsp minced shallots... -

dionnek replied to Camille'sBigSister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
on the rissotto, I had never made it either b/c of the constant stirring that I though was required, but I found a rissotto rice at Ingles of all places that doesn't require stirring constantly, and I have a recipe for asparagus and mushroom rissotto cooked in the rice cooker - no stirring! It is wonderful and creamy too! -
Ok - I'll play. I've only been gluten-free for 2 months now so am not seeing any improvement, but I have BMs (sometimes D but mostly just soft - not pure liquid) at least 5-6 times per day (this is better than before going gluten-free - used to have BMs 8-10 times per day!). I also used to have a very large, hard poop every morning that would make me cry...

I just had it last night for the first time and it was to die for! And I feel fine - did you talk to the manager before ordering? You can NEVER rely on the wait staff at places like that. The brownie is a flourless brownie and they do not use flour to dust the pan. My suspicion would be that she just took the croutons off you salad and gave you the same...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Celiac...
dionnek replied to Cornhusker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am fairly new to this (2 months), but I am the only one in my house with celiac (knock on wood) and have a 22 month old daughter. I was not planning on making the whole household go gluten-free, however, like mamatide said, it has just gotten to be too much of a headache and I am constantly worrying about cross contamination and my little girl's gluteny... -
ARCHIVED Visiting Florida (orlando)
dionnek replied to Simon's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
There has been several threads on this - do a search under the travel topic on "Disney" or "Orlando". I've heard great things about Disney World and how they accomodate celiacs. We are going in October and are planning on staying at the Pop Century. Also check out www.allearsnet.com for more info. -
ARCHIVED What Questions Do You Ask At A Restaurant?
dionnek replied to wozzy's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
As far as getting my card back, so far I haven't had a problem. They have always brought it back without me asking. I usually go through my speal with the manager/waiter and then hand them the card to "show" the chef - that gives them the hint that they need to give it back to me. I made a copy of each card (they come in different languages for ethnic... -
ARCHIVED What Questions Do You Ask At A Restaurant?
dionnek replied to wozzy's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I just got the Triumph dining cards - I would really recommend them. I had been going out to eat pre-cards and got so sick of trying to explain everything (and yes, ALWAYS speak to the manager or chef, not the waitstaff), so I ordered these cards. I still ask the hostess to send the manager over before I order (tell the hostess that you have a restricted... -
What kind of dr did you go to for all this, and what kind of tests did they do? The dr. that i just went to was an allergist (I wanted to get other food allergies tested), so he didn't know very much about it. He said my endo probably wouldn't know since it seemed to low for my thyroid, but he didn't really say who I should see.....

ARCHIVED List For The Newly Diagnosed
dionnek replied to TCA's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It was Clinique lipstick - some of theirs are ok but almost all of the ones I had were not. Also one Maybelline (they wouldn't really say one way or the other, just sent me a list of ingredients and of course I didn't have the packaging anymore since I always throw that out right away (and am newly diagnosed so had bought the lipstick before even hearing... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Awareness On Food Netwok
dionnek replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
this has been talked about on the SillyYaks message board - here is the link to the lady's blog. From what I can tell, what yiou saw was a commercial for a new show that is called "the power of food" and she will be on the show for just one time I think (her name is Shauna James or King - not sure which). No one has been able to find out when it will be... -
this is the only place i have this pain (left side of neck only, right above collar bone. The dr. didn't know what it was when I went on Friday - said could possibly be a swollen lymph node and he could put me on antibiotics if I wanted (which I didn't), so he said to wait 2 more weeks and if it doesn't go away then we should do xray or MRI. I rub it, but...

I am having the same pain (been having it for about a month since I've gone gluten-free but never before going gluten-free), however, you can't see or feel any lump in mine. It's just a pain that comes and goes in the left side of my neck, right above the collar bone, and it is definitley not a muscle or anything like that. I'm seeing a dr. today - will...

ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawel
dionnek replied to DrMom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, I've had the same thing. I've been gluten-free for a month and a half, and the headaches started right away (I've never had bad headaches before going gluten-free). They are almost gone now though, but lasted a month. -
ARCHIVED Cream Style Corn
dionnek replied to jaten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Del Monte but haven't called the company - nothing in the ingredients list though so seems safe. -
you are not alone in your feelings - I just told my husband last night that I don't think I can do this. Seems like every day I find out something else that i can't have or something else i need to change. It is very frustrating, and I'm only feeling WORSE, not better (it's only been a little over a month for me though). I am beginning to think that it...
