ARCHIVED Can You Share More About Why You Felt Ok With Using This Lab?
dionnek replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I used them to get the genetic test for my 2 year old daughter. I was recently dx with celiac; my daughter does not have any sympotms so the dr's won't test her, so I just decided to get the gene test done so I know if I ahve to worry about it in the future - turns out I do They were very easy to use and their genetic test was cheaper than Kimball labs... -
ARCHIVED 12 Weeks Of Hell
dionnek replied to Chris E's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I didn't develop the headaches until after I went gluten free, but I had all the other same symptoms (for years). I was diagnosed at 33 (just recently), but I think my pregnancy 2 years ago triggered the celiac. That's when my major symptoms started. When/if you do go gluten free, remember to check all your vitamins, meds, etc. - anything that goes in... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With gluten-free Bread Options
dionnek replied to kimber's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like the prairie bread and the sundried tomato bread from Whole Foods (in the freezer section), but other than that I haven't tried a regular sandwhich bread yet that I've liked. I have a couple of mixes in my pantry but have been too afraid to try them yet (I'm fairly new to this). I haven't tried any bagels - they look so gross compared to the fresh... -
I started taking Omega-3s a month or so ago but had the problem with the burping - was really gross b/c it DOES taste like old fish coming up - yuck! So I stopped taking them but every now and then I take one in the middle of my meal (not before you eat and not after - I read somewhere that it helps the burping if you take in the middle of a meal). This...

ARCHIVED Brain Fog
dionnek replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
yes, I think myserenityprayer said it exactly - I feel so dumb! Of course, I didn't know what was going on 4 months ago (before my dx) - I used to always be so smart and organized and could remember everything, and then for the past year and a half I've just been plain dumb ("blonde moments" as my husband calls it)! I seriously thought I had dementia (alzheimers... -
Yeah, it's not like a burning, which I figured heartburn would be. Could be accidental glutening, since I haven't started feeling any better yet (still have all my old symptoms plus new ones!). I"ll try the pepto and see if that works. I think I"ll definitely mention it to my doc when I go back for my 6 month checkup, but sounds like it's not life threatening...

This is a strange question, but I didn't know who to ask so figured you guys could probably help I've been having sharp pains in my chest, right under my breasts for the past week or so. I don't know if this could be heartburn (never had it before), but it isn't after I eat so I didn't think it was heartburn related. It happens usually after I exercise...

dionnek replied to jmengert's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just bought it but haven't tried it yet, but I opened the plain rice milk and it is the best rice milk that I've foiund so far. Rice milk is just so yucky to me, but this brand works. -
ARCHIVED Ups And Downs
dionnek replied to harley's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've got the same problems. I've been gluten-free for almost 4 months now and do not feel any better. the only difference is I've gone from being hypothyroid to hyperthyroid, so that tells me that I must be healing and absorbing the hypo meds now, even though I don't notice any difference. I think it's good to have a ct and nothing to worry about - I've... -
unexplainable dizzyness and passing out since age 12, then night sweats/hot flashes/muscle cramps/frequent urination started about age 25, then the frequent D started after birth of my child 2 years ago, so I think the birth is what really kicked it off.

ARCHIVED Great Suggestions!
dionnek replied to BostonCeliac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just bought the chocolate iced doughnuts (yum!) and the english muffins (haven't tried yet). Now I can't wait to get home and have an english muffin! When you order from Kinnikinnick, doyou order straight from them or some other site? I know they have to be frozen, so I guess that is an issue with shipping? -
Yeah, I'm always hungry and always eating (everyone I work with comments about how I always seem to be eating) I've only been gluten-free for 3 1/2 months and at first I thought it was just b/c I wasn't eating bread anymore, which fills you up more, but now I'm not so sure. Wondering if I'll ever get back to a "normal" appetite (i.e., 4-5 meals per day...

Just talked to the dr. and he said to stop taking the levoxyl and come back in 6 weeks for blood tests again. I'm not sure if that's such a good idea, but guess I'll try it and see how I feel. I have most of the symptoms anyway (seems that the hyper and hypo symptoms are the same ) so it's hard for me to tell by how my body feels. I've never had the...

I recently had some blood tests done since I haven't been feeling any better being gluten-free (I have been on medication for hypothyroid since becoming pregnant 2 years ago and was just dx with celiac in April this year, and have been gluten-free for 4 months now). My TSH now shows .093 and my T4 is 12.6, which from everything I can find is hyper, not hypo...

ARCHIVED Any Really Good Cake Recipes?
dionnek replied to momandgirls's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks! I actually made muffins and chocolate chip cookies today with the brown rice flour instead of white (since I ran out of white rice flour a few days ago) and they turned out good - the cookies actually taste like my old gluten tollhouse cookies! Can't wait to try making the cake! -

ARCHIVED Murphy's In Virginia Highlands/atlanta
dionnek replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks for sharing - always good to know where I can eat (I used to go there a lot for lunch since I work downtown, but not since going gluten-free). It's hard to find good lunch places downtown that will do gluten-free! -
ARCHIVED Insurance Coverage For Enterolabs
dionnek replied to RunnerNYC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was told that mine would be covered 100% (by BCBS of GA) - I met my deductible a LONG TIME AGO Anyway, I just did the genetic test on my daughter with Enterolab since I was dx by blood test and biopsy 3 months ago. Just sent in the claim, so not sure yet if they will really pay (lady on the phone at BCBS said it was covered). We'll see. -
ARCHIVED Costco Farm Raised Salmon
dionnek replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So is the smoked salmon gluten-free? I have been eating smoked salmon alot since going gluten-free, but last time I was at Costco I looked at the ingredients (and since also at the regular grocery store packages of smoked salmon) and they have something like "liquid smoke" or "hardwood smoke" in them - got to thinking that this might not be gluten-free since... -
ARCHIVED Is There Any Link Between Celiac And Polycystic Ovaries
dionnek replied to em4778's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was dx with PCOS and insulin resistance several years ago - went of the pill to get pregnant and didn't have a period for 14 months so did several rounds of progesterine drugs and clomid. I think the PCOS thing might be bogus also, b/c now I was finally dx with celiac 3 months ago (almost 2 years after my sweet little girl was born). Anyway, I have not... -
ARCHIVED Should I Use Enterolab To Test 18 Month Old?
dionnek replied to CantEvenEatRice's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was just dx and have a 22 month old daughter with no symptoms, but like you, I have a nagging feeling. So, I jsut ordered the gene test from Enterolab (not the whole panel, since she is asymptomatic). If she does have the gene, then I guess I'll just keep watching her, but if not, then at least I know I can rule it out and that will be the best $149 I... -
I want to start taking probiotics (I've been gluten-free for 3 months now and still have nasty BMs at least 6 times per day) but don't know what kind. Any suggestions? I am "mildly allergic" to corn, but other than that I don't have any allergies (other than the gluten, of course)

ARCHIVED Going To Have Thai Food Tonight
dionnek replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Is the coconut milk soup usually safe? Last time I had thai I went over my requirements with the manager to help me pick my main course (he said the panang curry was fine), but we never discussed the soup. It came with the coconut milk soup and I love it so I ate it, and was sick the next day. I'm wondering which it was - the soup or the curry.... -
ARCHIVED Going To Have Thai Food Tonight
dionnek replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
My dining cards say that the curries (penang curry, etc.) are usually gluten-free - just need to make sure they don't use fish sauce that has wheat in it. Supposedly the soy sauce that thai restaurants use do not contain wheat (I found this interesting - Triumph said that Chinese and Japanese soy sauces contain wheat but Thai usually does not). You would... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Codes - Insurance Stuff
dionnek replied to Izak's Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
BC/BS of GA will supposedly cover the tests - I just ordered the gene test so I will let you know if they actually do pay out for it. Have you tried Kimball Labs (in Denver)? They do the gene test and blood panel (home kit) and maybe your insurance would be more willing to pay for theirs? I know you can have it sent to your dr's office and have your dr...
