  1. today - Trader Joe's frozen black bean enchilada and an apple; tomorrow - smoked salmon with cream cheese and capers on gluten-free crackers; Friday - stuffed sweet potato that I made a few weekends ago and froze. I eat a lot of corn tortillas with various fillings - hummus and tuna; avocado and other veggies; black beans/refried beans and cheese and salsa...
  2. I am 14 weeks pregnant and was dx with celiac 8 monhts ago. I've had several accidental glutenings since I found out I was pregnant, and I don't think it's done the baby any harm (my dr says it will be fine). I just got my regular glutening symptoms, which for me last almost 2 weeks, but luckily I haven't had any sever D or vomitting with the pregnancy...
  3. I've been using it for the past month (I also didn't get stretch marks in my first pregnancy and had used it - pre celiac dx then, so started using it again as soon as I found out I was pregnant again). I didn't check if it was gluten-free, but the ingredients looked fine and I haven't had any problems (and I frequently eat with my fingers right after putting...
  4. I've noticed this to be a bit of a controversial topic. Some say the Hershey mini's are "dusted with flour" and others say they contain gluten from the lines they come off of (that Hersheys' processes the minis or snack size on the same lines as the wheat containing candy, therefore CC). I however decided to take my chances last week at work after being...
  5. does anyone know if probiotics and L-Glutamine are ok to take when yoiu are pregnant? I will check with my dr, but they are usually so clueless about stuff like this.
  6. As far as your husband's symptoms, they are exactly the same as mine (plus I had several more). My liver enzymes have finally come down after 7 months gluten free, but I've been to 10 doctors and have EVERY test imaginable (even MRI of brain for a brain tumor) until I finally went to a GI who tested for celiac. I've been gluten-free for 7 months but still...
  7. I found that when I eat at Chipotle (which is about twice a month or more) that I can only order the burrito bowl WITHOUT cheese or anything that they would use their hands in. Even if they use new gloves, they haven't used new gloves before, so the cheese or whatever that's in the container is already contaminated. Since cutting out the cheese (and lettuce...
  8. does anyone know if there is a brand that is gluten-free that is sold at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's?
  9. So far my favorite is the GFP french bread mix (it doesn't make a french bread - it says on the package to bake in a regular loaf pan which I did and it turned out like regular home made bread - even my glutenoid husband was impressed!). I have a package of Anna's mix but haven't tried it yet. I just ordered the EnerG foods Tapioca light (make sure it's...
  10. I am the same way - I've been very dilligent since dx 7 months ago, however, at my 6 month biopsy checkup my villi were still flattened and I hadn't started feeling ANY better. over the past 2-3 weeks though, I've noticed my D has gone from 7-10 times per day to just 2-3, and I don't have the muscle cramps and night sweats any more, however, I am now 12...
  11. I read somewhere on here that it takes your body about 14 days to recover from one crumb of gluten (i.e. the damage that it does to your intestines), so if you are slipping up even once a month you will never heal. It makes sense to me, since I was glutened twice that I know of recently and both times it took 2 1/2 weeks for me to recover from the symptoms...
  12. I've been gluten-free for 7 months now and just last week stopped having the D 6 plus times per day (used to have it 7-10 times PER DAY!). So, I wouldn't worry too much - sounds like your intestines still aren't healed (my villi were still flat at my 6 mo. biopsy), so just be vigilant and try to find your hidden gluten (or other food allergies that could...
  13. I would also like to throw out a caution, as with every restaurant. I went a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it, however, our waiter was not familiar with gluten free and had to ask the manager about the blue cheese on the salad. I ordered the gluten-free cake and it came out looking suspicous (was 3 layers and very tall - not at all like a flourless cake...
  14. I usually go 7-10 times per day! I'm pregnant now too and have been gluten-free for 7 months, and just now started only having 3-4 bms a day - to me that is wonderful!
  15. I didn't care for the glutino bagels, but maybe it's b/c I defrosted them first - I still have a few in my freezer so I'll have to try them your way Anyone tried Trader Joe's gluten-free bagels in the fresh bread section? We just got a TJs and they have gluten-free bagels and bread that is NOT frozen - I couldn't believe it! Just wondering if they are...
  16. dragonmom, I would love your recipe for glaze! I have a gift certificate to honey baked hams but without the glaze, I don't like ham.
  17. When I was first dx with celiac in May, I read some stuff on here about soy but decided to ignore it since going gluten-free was hard enough. So, I started using rice milk and almond milk (to eliminate dairy), but found out I am allergic to almonds and didn't like the rice milk so switched to soy milk. shortly after starting to use soy milk, I devleoped...
  18. Based on those ingredients, and especially since it is Kraft who always lists wheat, I'd definitely eat them! Let us know if they are any good
  19. When doing research on this board for our Disney trip, Rainforest Cafe in the Marketplace in Orlando was often referrenced as a good place for a gluten-free meal. Don't know about other locations though, but if you called and they even knew what gluten free was, I'd go
  20. I gave up on HMO dr's many years ago (Kaiser in particular!) - they are useless as you have found out. It took me 10 different dr's to find my celiac dx (I had never heard of it before dx) - all the dr's said there was definitely something wrong with me but they didn't know what (tested for diabetes insipidus, insulin resistance, cancer, brain tumor - yeah...
  21. Very interesting. I was wondering recently (and maybe you discussed this with her?) whether it was better to breast feed or not when the mother is a celiac but is somehow still ingesting gluten in her system. I was dx in May, had my follow up biopsy in Oct. which showed still flattened villi (i.e., NO HEALING, even though I've been very thourough on this...
  22. ON the College Inn broth, I had called 6 months ago when dx b/c I had some in my pantry, and they said it was NOT gluten-free (howeve that could have also just been a CYA statement, but regardless I gave it away to my non celiac friends). I use Swanson's (there's is gluten-free).
  23. I like Pamela's baking and pancake mix so far. I found xantham gun at Kroger in the organic/health food section (I think it's Bob's Red Mill brand).
  24. I'd love to know where to find these - keep us posted if you see them anywhere. Sounds great!
  25. I've heard everywhere that curries at Thai restaurants are ok, so my first Thai dining out experience after being dx I showed the manager my Triumph dining card (the one in Thai language) and he said curry dish would be ok so that's what I ordered (the panang curry (red curry) with white rice); I was soooooo sick afterwards! It also came with that coconut...
