  1. Do a search on Disney World here and you'll find great information on food in the parks. I think the website www.allearsnet.com is a great one for celiac info. I've heard wonderful things about Disney and how they have gluten-free food in the parks (and I think they will let you bring in some of your own - but not a cooler - for medical reasons - check...
  2. I tried the Pacific brand of almond milk too and thought it was kinda icky... sort of has a grainy texture, which I didn't notice with the Almond Breeze. Anyone else notice that? yea, I'm trying really hard to get used to eating more meat & veggies... Meat just honestly kinda grosses me out most of the time, but I'm working on it. I've never liked most...
  3. I have BC/BS of GA and I called and they said it would be covered. I haven't ordered yet. Does anyone know what tests I would need to order to see if my (nonsymptomatic) 22 month old daughter has the gene? I have just been dx, and want to see if she might possibly ever get celiac, so was thinking of just ordering the gene test from Enterolab. Any thoughts...
  4. Just wanted to say thanks for this post - I too had bought Rice Dream without thinking (why in the world would rice milk have gluten in it?!) but came across this post before using it - a whole jug down the drain but at least my tummy was happy I like Almond Breeze (the chocolate is great for a treat!) and 8th continent (soy) light vanilla.
  5. there was another thread on this somewhere, but mine has always been extremely low (one time it was 68/45 - they took it 4 times to make sure!). Even when pregnant the highest mine ever got was 98/68 (or something like that - I can never remember the bottom number). Anyway, I've always asked the nurse/dr's about it and they were never concerned, except...

    ARCHIVED Books

I checked out Donna Korn's Wheat Free Worry Free book from the library but did not have time to get very far before I had to return it (and they wouldn't let me renew b/c it is very popular - it's already falling apart) Just wondering if anyone had any opinions on whether this was worth buying or not? I can get most of my recipes online, and get advice...
  8. Are you gluten free? I never knew what the "brain fog" was really until my first true glutening since going gluten-free (just dx 2 months ago) - about 5-6 hours after the accidental glutening I started feeling drunk, even though I had not had anything to drink. I felt light headed and "fuzzy", like my reflexes were impaired. I felt like I was talking and...
  9. amazon - they have a lot of gluten-free food under the grocery section (just type in "gluten free") and it is A LOT cheaper (plus it's free shipping right now). The only possible downside is it's all in bulk, so you want to make sure you actually like it before you order it. They have pasta, cereal, snacks, etc. It's great!
  10. yes, I have these pains (feels like someone is stabbing a knife in my left side) all the time. I've only been gluten-free for 2 months now, and they had gone away initially but today they came back. Don't know if it is a symptom of being "glutened" or not, since I still don't feel "normal" yet and don't know when I am accidentaly glutened. I've mentioned...
  11. I have had the exact same problem - dairy never bothered me before going gluten-free, and the first month gluten-free I was in denial about it, but I am slowly realizing that I need to give up (or at least cut back significantly) on dairy. I've only been gluten-free for 2 months, so I am hoping that after my villi heal I can reintroduce ice cream again
  12. I have wondered about this too - since tupperware soaks up colors and ordors (just try getting spaghetti sauce out of a clear tupperware dish!), I was wondering about the gluten. Although I haven't replaced all of mine yet - just the really bad ones. I've only been gluten-free for 2 months so still working on replacing things.
  13. I have recently started getting little blisters in the corners of my mouth (I think it's an allergic reaction to quinoa, which I just added to my diet when I went gluten-free but will be taking out now!) - the redness is spreading down my chin and I am desperate to get rid of them. I've been using Oragel but that just dulls the pain (doesn't get rid of the...
  14. Well, I wasn't diagnosed with celiac until just 2 months ago (I'm now 33), but when I look back at my childhood, I always had symptoms. I had VERY HEAVY periods (starting at age of 13) and the cramping was so bad on the first day every month that I had to stay home from school. Finally, at the age of 16 they put me on birth control to help the cramping...
  15. I've never heard of this Lesser Evil, but I just ordered 2 big packages (a 36 count and a 12 count!) from amazon - it looks incredible! Free shipping and $10 off if you use the code "GROCERY2" from now until Aug. 31. I hope I like it I'm new to this, but my favorites so far are the Kinnitoos vanilla sandwhich cookies, Really Great Food Company pancake...
  16. well, right now my "journal" has what I eat throughout the day and my BMs and other symptoms, so maybe having a space for "bathroom trips" or something and also just "possible symptoms" or something like that? I know I don't keep track of my shampoo/conditioner/lotion/vitamin, etc. changes like I should, so maybe a monthly place to record any changes in...
  17. yes, you can deduct the difference between the normal food (i.e. - normal bread) and the specialty gluten-free food - must have receipt and must total more than 7.5% of AGI, so probably won't happen (ie., all medical expenses combined that exceed 7.5% of AGI are deductible, and this includes the gluten-free food cost increment).

    ARCHIVED Anger

Melzo, Funny you say that your husband would give you a hug when you fly off the handle - that's what they say to do to toddlers when they throw a temper tantrum I have a toddler, so I've been reading alot about controlling these Swittenauer, in regards to the sleeping problem, have you tried melatonin or 5 HTP supplements? I have taken these off...
  19. fuits are good - children that young can't have raw veggies (choking hazard), but my little girl loves bananas (sliced) and grapes (halfed) and blueberries! Could also try canned peaches/pears/mandarin oranges (mine won't eat that stuff though). Cheese - we use the string cheese - is a great snack for her age, and healthy (provided she can do dairy). Envirokidz...
  20. I would recommend a gastroenterologist - I went through 9 doctors before finally going to a GI who figured it out right away! Your symptoms do sound familiar though And if you decide to just try the diet (or if you do get a positive diagnosis for celiac), don't give up after a few weeks. I've been gluten-free (I think) for over 2 months now and still...
  21. You mentioned yours was in the middle - my pain is on the left side usually, right under my ribcage. Extreme cramps. I've only been gluten free for 2 months, but still get it (confirmed celiac by biopsy and blood tests) - does anyone know what this could be? Still the healing process? If I'm not mistaken I think your gallbladder is on the right side,...

    ARCHIVED Vitamins

I have a myriad of vitamins - multi from BJ's (confirmed gluten-free), calcium from Costco (Kirkland) says gluten-free and confirmed, sundown B12 and folic acid and vit. C and iron - confirmed gluten-free by phone call.

    ARCHIVED Milk?

I have a silly question - I had the skin prick allergy test recently and the dr. said I was "midly" sensitive to almonds (I've never noticed any problem before, but I don't eat almonds unless they just happen to be in something). I recently bought the Almond milk (I don't really like the rice milks and am trying not to drink too much soy) - would this be...
  24. Actually, that is the only way I will eat my bananas (from the fridge) It will stop the ripening (I like mine slightly green) and yes, after a few days the skin will turn brown but the banana won't ripen anymore so you can keep it in the fridge a lot longer and still eat it. The only bananas in my house that sit on the counter are for banana bread ...
  25. I've only been doing this for 2 months, but when i'm feeling depressed about what I CAN'T eat, I eat something "normal" that is actually gluten free, like Cheetos That makes me feel like a normal person (even though I never ate Cheetos before being dx, but my husband did all the time)
