  1. I have been gluten-free for 10 days now and have started getter annoying headaches for the past 3 or 4 days. I've attributed this to gluten withdrawal
  2. ok - reading this got me craving (just came back from a pool party/luau where everyone was eating all kinds of goodies and I couldn't eat A THING!). I tried the tollhouse recipe here and they are flat as a pancake and all run together. No problem though since I like the dough the best anyway
  3. don't think it was the ice cream - hagan dazs is probably one of the most natural and chocolate is definitley ok (I eat ice cream - well, frozen yogurt actually - all the time without a problem - just make sure it doesn't have cookies or brownies in it, obvoisly)
  4. Funny, I have the same situation coming up in June. I haven't even responded yet whether I"ll go - I just can't decide. I know regardless of what I do to prepare (call ahead of time, get there early to talk to the manager, etc.) there will still be some kind of problem and attention drawn to me. My boss knows my recent diagnosis, but I don't want to have...
  5. I just went here - nice little store. Have you been to the natural food warehouse (not sure exactly what it's called) off Old Alabama Connecter by Northpoint Mall? I heard they have good prices. Just trying to find the cheapest place to buy this gluten-free food (I'm new to this and don't have time to drive around all over town to investigate!). Also...
  6. Great website with yummy sounding recipes - can't wait to try them (I too love to bake and that is what I am missing most this past week of gluten-free)!
  7. wow, I never would have thought that! Thanks!
  8. I was just diagnosed with celiac myself a week ago and am a runner - I don't think it should interfere with your traning at all - if anything, once you get on the gluten-free diet, it should make your running easier (I've always been concerned about needing "pit stops" during my runs, so I am hoping once my intestines heal I will be safe from that worry)...
  9. Does anyone know if marshmallows (sp?) are gluten-free? I had a campfire mocha at Caribou yesterday and was sick, and was wondering if it was from the mini marhmallows they sprinkled on top (shouldn't be anything else with gluten in there).
  10. I don't seem to have it as bad as some of you guys as far as getting sick - I usually don't get sick immediately and even on "normal" days when I have D 7-8 times it doesn't seem to impact my work (i.e., I can usually hold it or find a bathroom when needed, since I work in an office setting). My coworkers didn't even know anything was wrong with me (just...
  11. where do you buy them? Are they frozen or in a mix that you have to make? I haven't found any fresh bread that is gluten-free, just the frozen stuff that is so old the ice crystals are covering all of it!
  12. Sounds like your brother should be tested! My symptoms were what i consider mild also, until someone told me it is not normal to have D or even regular BMs 7 or 8 times a day, every day! I'm still not "normal", since I've only been doing this diet for a week, and haven't seen any improvement, but I've heard it takes several months.
  13. I was just diagnosed with celiac (and now possibly crohns) a little over a week ago and am finding it quite overwhelming trying to figure out what I can eat and new recipes, etc. while still holding a full time job and trying to raise (not to mention worry about) a 1 1/2 year old toddler. I have been debating taking a leave of absense or going part time...
  14. Thanks everyone - I am definitely going to start using some cards (will probably get the Triumph ones since they list more things out and in different languages). I do really enjoy eating thai food, and would hate to have to give it up! I too am embarassed though to draw the attention to myself. I have been invited to a "celebration" lunch at Maggianos...
  15. Where do you buy Applegate farms?
  16. could you have an allergy to nuts (the almonds)? I haven't tried the WF food yet (just started a week ago on this), but I will definitely pay attention to my body if and when I do try their food! Thanks for the heads up.
  17. how do I pm Nini? I'm new to this too.
  18. My dr. just called me with results from my last blood tests - confirmed celiac (2 different dr's blodd tests and biopsy) but he now says these tests look like crohns too. Wants to do a barium test. Can you really have both?!
  19. could you give me those recipes for banana bread? I love banana bread and really miss it!
  20. ok - this may sound gross but when I eat corn it comes right out in my poop - does this mean I have a corn intollerance or is it just b/c my intestines haven't healed yet (only been gluten-free for 6 days)? this happens with craisins also, and sometimes black beans.
  21. So are the Triumph dining cards really worth it? I ate out at a thai restaurant yesterday and despite my specific instructions and getting the (supposedly) exact ingredients in the penang curry sauce, I was still sick right away (stomach pains/heartburn/D). I love to eat out and can't imagine not being social anymore
  22. I'd suggest giving up dairy for a week if you haven't already and see if that might be it. I've also heard caffein could upset your stomach if you are a celiac. I have used Imodium AD before I was diagnosed, but haven't used it since b/c I"m not sure if it is safe - anyone have any suggestions on that (Imodium, Pepto, etc ok to use?)?
  23. yes, I have these same symptoms, but have not noticed when they occur in relation to eating. I was just diagnosed a week ago (through biopsy then blood tests - 2 different drs), and I had never heard of this before so didn't know what to pay attention to. I have been gluten-free (or at least I think) for 5 days now but still have all those pains. I'm hoping...
  24. I'm always hungry too, but I just started this diet 5 days ago, so I'm hoping I get used to it! I actually got full last night - had a stuffed baked potato (baked the potatoes then mixed pulp with steamed broccoli, cream cheese, salt and pepper, and some shredded cheddar cheese on top) and a chicken/black bean/corn salad - it was yummy and filling. Got...
  25. Wow, this is EXACTLY what I was talking about! Finally someone who has the same problem. Did it ever get better?
