  1. MissWingBat, welcome, glad you found us. I live across the ditch in New Zealand so I know how frustrating it is trying to find sweets. I myself am not sure about wheat glucose syrup so I wouldn't touch it. If in doubt leave it out. I've just done a quick search on a NZ site mfd.co.nz which has listings for gluten free food. I typed in Pascall and...

    Getting Warmer

Life hasn't crumbled. Summer is just around the corner. My second son Andrew came home from Australia. He has adapted to my gluten free life quite well. He is a bit hesitant to eat what he perceives as my food, but I tell him to help himself, the only things he can't touch would be my tuna, bread and mueslis. The rest I eat is not typically marketed...

    Doctor Appointment Made

Ohiodad, I bet you're a bit worried about this Thursday, but I wish you well and that the doctor will go ahead and test you. From what you have said, you have got symptoms that I feel they should look into. So you are hoping it could be something simple that could be causing all your symptoms. The way I saw it, I was relieved when I was diagnosed...

    The Beginning

Ohiodad, all I can say is gosh, it sounds like it. Not nice is it? Cathy
  5. Poor Kat, having to go to the dentist. I hate them as much as I hate going to get a warrant of fitness for the car. My last few experiences haven't been too bad, but I remember once coming out and my knees were actually knocking together, I was actually so terrified, but there was nothing wrong. As for winter, I have just gone through our winter without...
  6. Welcome Blanche and you are more than welcome to join us. Sorry you have had such a hard time with food. Having coeliac is bad enough, but to have other things that upset your stomach would be a double whammy. I am lucky whereas I can eat whatever I like as long as I don't eat too much in the way of processed foods. I think some of the additives don...
  7. Me again. Another good day diet wise, except for the last when I indulged in 3 bottles of coruba and coke. Naughty but nice. Have still been doing a massive cleanout, I thought it would be so worn out that I would sleep the minute my head hit the pillow. But it doesn't seem to work like that! I was awake quite a bit during the night, it could've...
  8. Before I go any further, Janeti, you wouldn't have anyproblems with peanuts would you? Just a thought. But what wonderful ideas. I'm tempted to give them a go. I had been wondering what peanut butter cups were and now I sort of know. Peanuts and chocolate, lovely. My favourite would be peanut slabs. A concoction of peanuts in chocolate, in a big...
  9. Me again, It is holidays and I must be bored! Never. Been cleaning, and cleaning and did a stint of working voluntarily in a library this morning, walked the dog. The list goes on and on Did I say supermarket shopping. Well I did that, and bumped into someone I see every now and again and she wanted to know if I was on some sort of diet. Of course...
  10. Donna, that not falling asleep at the wheel since giving up gluten is the same with me. I remember once pre gluten-free driving after work to my then boyfriends home, about 40 mile away and nearly ending up in the ditch. I knew I was tired but everybody else felt like that didn't they? Lucky boyfriend had a tractor and could pull the car out off the side...
  11. One of my pinkies is a little shorter, the left hand one, and the other is equal. How do I vote? I voted shorter. Talking about toes, my big toe is shorter than the next toe. My middle son was born with bent little fingers, but they still are above the joint. Cathy
  12. I am gluten free, and I have been dieting. Initially I thought gluten free would be so hard, as I could never, ever stick to a diet, but I have since found out that gluten-free is easy compared to dieting. I just don't understand why dieting would be harder. I must admit, my diet is working, but my diet gives me more stress than being gluten free. Cathy
  13. Yes I think it is a good point you have raised. I will in future think twice before I buy a food related gift for someone. I think buying chocolate and yummy things is easier for me to do than try to figure out whether they have read this book or not. I have got the worst imagination imaginable. Also don't feel too bad about the present. I think...
  14. I've had them gluten dreams. Sometimes, I find myself eating gluten and I get quite upset and wait for the stomach pains to begin. The one that makes me laugh is the one when I am faced with all these gluten treats on a table, and I have to ask my host whether or not they are gluten free? I get so wild with myself when I wake up as I would've loved to...
  15. This thread has been good timing for me. A few weeks back, I took on some advice that Stef was giving in the diet thread about eating smaller meals, and more of them. I think she quoted 300 calories every three hours. I have followed this quite closely, and I have noticed a big improvment. I'm finding it easier to stick to my diet and I can last the...
  16. Hollyberry, before being diagnosed with coeliac, drinking alcohol used to give my system a good cleanout. It wasn't too drastic, but noticeable, and I would have more stomach issues than the hangover. Now, unfortunately I do not drink alcohol much any more. What I do drink does not upset me, unless I have inadvertantly drank a grain alcohol. I like...
  17. XxKittykat, you are just as weird as me, but you could be just a little bit weirder. Smelling gluten filled foods does not make me sick, but it makes me feel sick. The smell is horrible and it turns my stomach. I can remember the first time I walked past the bread in the supermarket and I thought that stinks, and that was just a couple of weeks after...
  18. Dairy is not the problem for me, as I eat a bit of cheese and milk and hyoghurts and my stomach seems to have healed. I hardly have issues with it. Yesterday was a bad day, I had a major headache/migraine. I still think it is additives for me, but which ones cause the worse problems, msg or what, because like tcat, I do find when I eat fresh foods and...
  19. I get quite frustrated at times. A lot of people claim that once they go gluten free their problems all clear up just like that. I think that is wonderful, but regretfully that did not happen to me. With me it is different. I spent quite a few months struggling with the diet, eating as gluten free as I could, but there were things that kept getting...
  20. Kathleen, your supermarkets sound like ours in nz, you really have to troll the ailses to find what you want, and usually what is in the miniscule gluten-free section is food I wouldn't want to touch, (apart from Marcels gluten free crepes), all the other foods and breads seem to be full of preservatives etc etc. I'm on a high here, I started the week...
  21. Jerseyangel, that is so true, I have perfect willpower when it comes to gluten-free!!! But give me chocolate or gluten-free yummies and all that will power goes out the window. Even if they make me sick, "as in I ate too much" I am still a sucker for them. Do we do this to ourselves because we feel deprived in one way, so we make up for it by eating...
  22. Melissa, I can't reply in relation to a child, but I can reply in relation to myself. Mine started up reasonably high and they went down slowly, but they went down. At the year stage they had gone down to 48, and were 100 to start with. so I still have a way to go. I think you should take comfort in the fact that her levels are going the right way,...
  23. We are having a lunar eclipse down here in NZ are you over there in the states?
  24. Hi, I am back again, for how long I don't know. I have been ultra busy, adding more tasks to my already busy work life. Buy enjoying the challenges. I have lost a little weight, very slowly, so hopefully, it will keep going down. Stef, you mentioned a while back, 300 calories every three hours. This makes sense to me, but I think I would find it...
  25. I had the problem of weight gain before changing to gluten free. Going gluten free I noticed more or less immediately that I was not as hungry anymore. So that is probably because of gfp's theory, I was not getting enough nutrients. But the doctor thinks I was not as hungry because I was not eating as many carbs anymore. Still I had managed to loose...
