  1. We often eat Kraft Dinner (we throw out the noodles in the box and substitute our own) and I was wondering whether anyone had ever determined whether the sauce mix in Hamburger Helper is also gluten-free? The list of ingredients on the side of the box lumps the noodle ingredients with the mix ingredients. Just wondering... mamatide
  2. Sorry to be a pain... but would you be so kind as to list your " perfected " recipe? I've lost track of the changes you've made and along the way someone else posted a recipe (same one or a different one???) Anyhow, I'd try it out if you'd post the amended (by you) recipe!!!! Thanks in advance... mamatide
  3. Thanks for the recipe - sounds delicious! How big (grams/ounces) is a " package " of flaked coconut? TIA mamatide
  4. No experience with a stone but if it were me I'd just try putting a layer of parchment paper between the stone and the dough for the first time to see how it reacts. Good luck!
  5. Hi all, I'm leaving Friday with my family and although the majority of the staff at the resort we're visiting will speak English, I'd like to be able to clearly communicate with the cooking staff so that my 5yo DD will be able to enjoy her trip... Her only intolerance is to gluten. Can anyone help me to translate the following questions to Spanish...
  6. Hi Laurie, Since I just purchased an icecream maker for my KitchenAid mixer I can say that personally I'm very intersted LOL! If you had a cookie dough ice cream recipe (gluten free of course) or some sort of pralines and cream recipe that would be fun and saleable imo because those are the ice creams that we can't purchase mainstream right now. I wouldn...
  7. When we go to someone else's place to eat we bring our daughter's meal with us. All the good intentions in the world can't prepare someone for all of the possibilities of cross-contamination in a gluten-filled environment to suit our purposes. Our daughter is very sensitive. It's easier (socially) when it's a child. I know most adults will just eat before...
  8. Here's why we went completely gluten free on the home front. When we began gluten-free it was to find out if our 5yo was Celiac. She had all the symptoms and it was going to take forever (8+ months) to get in to see a specialist for a consult to decide whether to do a biopsy... so we went on a trial. IMO a gluten-free trial is useless if you don't go...
  9. Question: would this work in a deep fryer or is that too much oil? If not, how much (depth) oil do you put in a frypan? Thanks
  10. I emailed Rose Reisman too. Here's the correction she posted on her website: Open Original Shared Link
  11. As someone who has had the same success with my own 5yo daughter, I say congratulations! I'm really glad you've discovered this. You're a great Mum and she's a luckly little girl!
  12. Cityline, a daily Canadian talk show, did a brief segment on what it means to be gluten-free this morning and stated: 1. that something can be done to wheat to remove the gluten 2. that organic wheat is ok 3. that spelt is a good substitute 4. that oats are a substitute 5 that gluten can be removed from the diet and then slowly reintroduced and...
  13. Off the top of my head, I'd say I'd be looking for: 1. Kid-friendly cooking (or better yet, options to make adult-type recipes more appealing to kids - add apples to muffins, add chocolate chips, or whatever) 2. A good cinnamon roll recipe that's light. The best one I've found so far is the one on the Food Philosopher's website but they're really...
  14. These are excellent chocolate chip cookies. I make them all the time for my dd to bring to school/girl guides and the kids ask for them. HIGHLY recommend: from Canadian Living Magazine. Chewy Crisp Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies 1 1/2 cups butter, softened 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar 3/4 cup packed brown sugar 3 eggs 1 Tbsp vanilla 3...
  15. Well, I've never used a bread machine and just make the recipe in the oven in a pan. If it were me, I'd return the bread machine and buy a good quality stand mixer instead - very useful in most baking (cheesecakes, bagels, cookies, cakes... AND bread). But that's one person's opinion! I'm sure there are many bread machine afficionados out there...
  16. If anyone is interested in reading the original thread for this bread, including Laurie's recommendations to me for flour blends, here it is: https://www.celiac.com/index.php?s...;hl=yummy+bread Cheers!
  17. I've had this happen before (not with this bread but with other gluten-free breads) and found I wasn't cooking it long enough. This particular recipe is very moist. I'd try cooking it longer (I think I cook it 10 minutes longer myself come to think of it). You don't have to worry about drying it out. Oh, and have you checked your oven temperature to see...
  18. Make sure you don't use the instant yeast - if mine didn't rise at all, I'd probably go and get some fresh new yeast. As for warming the milk and ingredients, I've made this several times now and it's really not necessary to warm up the milk or eggs. If you can, just put them into a cup or bowl ahead of time and let them warm to room temperature. I...
  19. Hi. Also a mom of a previously very sick little girl, now 5, who would have had to wait 9 months for a consult and at minimum 11.5 months for a biopsy in the Cdn health care system... Please be strong. And don't hesitate to go gluten-free and stick to your guns if you do choose to do so. But one word of caution - don't go gluten-free unless you're sure...

    ARCHIVED Tim Hortons

For what it's worth, my Daughter was glutened eating Tim Horton's yogurt and fruit. :-(
  21. That's how it was with my daughter. She's a completely different little girl gluten-free. It's amazing. Her concentration is greatly improved as well. She hardly ever says "I don't remember" any more whereas it used to be all-the-time. On the Pizza and Cake for their first party, here's what I did: I cooked Carol Fenster's gluten-free pizza (chewy...
  22. Most definitely YES. Actually negative behaviour and a negative attitude was one of the things that precipitated my search for a solution. My daughter was so so angry, nasty, hated all new things. She cried when she was dropped off at daycare EVERY SINGLE DAY for 7 straight months. she cried at dance class. She cried at gymnastics class. At the...
  23. My daughter eats them and she's extremely sensitive. I checked the ingredients (no wheat/gluten) and confirmed with my two local McDonalds' restaurants that they ONLY fry fries in the fry-fryer, never anything else. The first time she had them she had a sore belly but no gluten symptoms. We finally realized it was the grease (she hadn't had McDonald...
  24. I'd eat first as well. You might be able to have some chips and salsa to be sociable. Good luck.
