We have a Cinzetti's where I live, but because of the buffet style I have been reluctant to go back there. Their foods mostlyl have gravys, sauces and/or pasta. Way too expensive to go and just have salad. I'll be interested to hear if you had a good experience there.

ARCHIVED I Made My Own Eating-out Card For Restaurants.
ArtGirl replied to ArtGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I ate at Chili's this evening and ordered steamed broccoli plain. It came with butter on it, only I didn't notice it until I had taken a bite. The waitress said she had told them to make it plain. I won't know if I'll have a reaction to it until tomorrow sometime. That's why I thought a card a server could read and give to the cooks might help. I know... -
I beg to differ with you Andrew. For long-term maintenance of hypoglycemia, one cannot rely on sugars. They may have their place perhaps if one were about to pass out, but eating sugar causes an insulin rush which too quickly drops the blood sugar level and you are right back where you started from. Usually within 20 minutes. Being proactive by planning...

ARCHIVED I Made My Own Eating-out Card For Restaurants.
ArtGirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Since I'm trying to eliminate, not only gluten, but corn, eggs and milk, I decided to compose my own restaurant card for servers and cooks. Do you think it is easy to understand? Would you suggest anything else? ________________________________________________ TO: WAIT-STAFF AND COOKS I am allergic to: wheat(all breads and breading) corn (including... -
ARCHIVED Need A Substitute For Salad Dressing
ArtGirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Anyone up to a challenge! Does anyone have a recipe for something I can use to make tuna or chicken salad with? I'm probably asking too much for it to be free of so many categories, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Gluten-free, corn-free, egg-free, soy-free and dairy free. -
I get tired of eating salads and vegetables, even though they are good for maintaining one's blood sugar levels. I often put raw vegetables in the blender, add a some water and maybe some stevia if the vegetables are not particulary sweet, and puree into a vegetable "smoothie". I vary the vegetables, but put at least three different kinds each time. I've...

ARCHIVED Thanks From Newbie
ArtGirl replied to moonmaiden's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree. Reading the information and advice here on this site has excellerated the learning curve for me, and I'm sure for all who are taking this health problem seriously. Not only am I much better now (still have a ways to go, though) but I am much better at "reading" my symptoms now (thanks to reading about so many other people's similar experiences)... -
ARCHIVED Protein Drink And Help With Weight Gain
ArtGirl replied to BeckyW's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
whey is a milk product. I did a google search for gluten-free protein powder and came up with a rice protein powder by NutriBiotic. Check their website Open Original Shared Link I would like to have a protein powder to fall back on for hypoglycemia problems - it keeps well in my purse in a small plastic container and all I have to do is add water and... -

ARCHIVED Ener-g
ArtGirl replied to graindamage's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just bought a box of Ener-G egg replacer - I don't see anything in the ingredients list that would include corn. What are you referring to? Ingredients: Potato starch, tapioca flour, leavening (calcium lactate, calcium carbonate, citric acid) cellulose gum, carbohydrate gum. Calcium lactate is not dairy derived. It does not contain lactose. -
ARCHIVED Struggling To Live The Gluten Free Life
ArtGirl replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree. When first going gluten-free I wanted to buy all the "goodies" to replace what I couldn't eat anymore. Some are very good, but many are only a poor immitation, and all of them are full of starch and fat - not what I need to be eating since I'm overweight. Not to mention that the gluten-free junk food is expensive and has little nutritional value... -
I read someplace that the Japanese use stevia in their diet sodas - they never used aspertame and it's outlawed. They are smarter than us in that me thinks.

I bought two 1-oz. bottles of NOW Stevia Extract from an internet site over two years ago and I have about 1/3 of the second bottle left. A little goes a very long way. I often mix the powder in a small amount of water to dissolve it and then add it to my drink or salad or whatever in the liquid form. It is difficult to get the powder to dissolve in an...

ARCHIVED Is This Chronic Fatigue
ArtGirl replied to sore joints's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nothing special, just purified. My husband and I buy locally purified water from Brookfield's by the gallon ($.25 a gallon). We have our own 3-gal. and 1-gal. containers and fill them up at their location. They use reverse osmosis and some other thing I can't remember exactly what (ultraviolet light?) - gets rid of a lot of bacteria, clorine and other chemicals... -
I use stevia all the time. It does have a distinct taste and some people don't like it all that well. To me it's a sort of bitter after taste. BUT, if I use it in anything that has a strong flavor of its own, I can't detect the stevia - just the sweetness. I use it in lemon and mint flavored teas, in my butternut squash soup that also has pumpkin spice in...

ARCHIVED Is This Chronic Fatigue
ArtGirl replied to sore joints's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry you're feeling so bad. I'm sure some others will have some good advice to you, but I want to relate my experience and maybe something will help you. I had fibromyalgia (notice "had") several years ago. Fortunately, I stumbled into a support group that led people to getting well. Not just fibromyalgia, but chronic fatigue syndrome also (they are most... -
ARCHIVED I'm Not Celiac! But......

Well, I wondered about the gall bladder thing. It's not something I wanted to ask an MD 'cause he/she'd just make me feel stupid. Thanks for the feedback. -
ARCHIVED Potty Training A Newly Diagnosed Celiac
ArtGirl replied to Luvs to Scrap's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Kendra, It must be very frustrating for you as a parent with the difficulty in toilet training your son. I think you've had good advice. I am about 2 months into the gluten-free diet and still have very loose bowels - now and again I don't exactly make it to the toilet in time. And I'm an adult! I should know better than to put off running to the bathroom... -
What a time-saver. I don't have a lot of computer time - and it takes soooo long to read through a long list of posts from a one-word search. I'll be using this google search from now on.

I googled "avoiding corn message board" - a very interesting site. The author has a list of corn ingredients, some obvious, some hidden. Here's a link to the Avoiding Corn page: Open Original Shared Link Here's a product that is used to coat paper cups taken from the site: Looks to me that avoiding corn is about as challenging as...

Very interesting about that new cup. I suppose that, just like those who are extremely sensitive to CC with gluten, one could in theory react to anything corn based. I'm sorry you were so sick, Kate. That sounds just like a gluten reaction. Is this a typical reaction to a corn allergy? What symptoms do those of you who are allergic/sensitive to corn...

ARCHIVED Please Help Me Find Gluten In This Products
ArtGirl replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm casein intolerant so I am always on the lookout for foods without milk products. I shop the Kosher section of the grocery store and look for parve, which means there is no milk product in it (but also look for gluten or other any allergens of mine). My husband is casein sensitive, so he also buys parve, and since we don't eat pork, buying Kosher franks... -
Since I don't react immediately to anything I eat - and as it takes at least 15 hours or more for the D and fatigue to begin, I can't say that I can pinpoint any symptom(s) to corn. But I've only been 6 weeks gluten free and maybe three weeks corn-free, so perhaps in the future, when the D has quit and my digestion has become normal (whatever that is) I can...

I used to order potato skins from a Mexican restaurant in our neighborhood. LOADED WITH FAT but OH SO GOOD. They were deep fat fried, topped with greasy seasoned meat, cheese, sour cream, bacon and fresh tomatoes (the ONLY good food in the whole mess). I miss them!

Many years ago when I had a blood test for food sensitivities, corn gluten came up as a sensitivity. I have tried to find information lately on the internet but get next to nothing when searching for corn gluten or corn allergy. Does anyone here know anything about this sensitivity? I do stay away from corn altogether, but am just curious about the corn...
