ARCHIVED I'm Not Celiac! But......
ArtGirl posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I got the results of my Enterolab tests yesterday. It was only one week since they received the samples - quick turnaround! I have two gluten senstitive genes (DQ3/7 and DQ1/6 - not the ones that predispose to celiac). No malabsorbtion. So my conclusion is that I haven't developed celiac. I'm almost 60 now and have had digestive symptoms for as long as... -
I take my pasta already cooked, then add it to the dish when it comes to the table. It doesn't take but a minute for it to get warmed up when mixed in with the sauce.

ARCHIVED Thai Kitchen
ArtGirl replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What you want to get is the RICE noodle soups or they have just the rice noodles in a box. I'm pretty sure the ramen-type noodles have wheat in them. The rice noodle soups say they are gluten and egg-free on the packags. I've never had any problem with them. Lister, you can make one of the rice noodle soups and put some other cooked vegetables and some... -
Another option is to bring your own pasta and just order the dish wihout the their pasta. I do this and it works out well. (We don't have a Spaghetti Factory where I live.)

ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
ArtGirl replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'm wondering if a compounding pharmacy could make you up some thyroid meds without the corn. Have you tried writing to the manufacturer of the thyroid meds to see if they could accommodate, or perhaps in a cooperative effort between their supplying the ingredients to a coumpounding pharmacy. Are you taking synthroid or Armour? Maybe one would be easier... -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Here Not Actually Diagnosed?
ArtGirl replied to kalanfan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I haven't been officially diagnosed. Ten years ago a food sensitivity test showed positive to gluten. I've just sent a sample off to Enterolab and should know something for certain in a few weeks. However, I'm not sure I really want an official diagnosis if it will be perceived by insurance companies as a pre-existing condition. I haven't had health insurance... -
It is my understanding that the gluten molecule is too large to be absorbed through the skin. I think the probelm with shampoo is that it can easily make its way into your mouth. Do those with DH break out from contact on their skin? or is it the result of ingesting it. I don't think I'm super sensitive to gluten where breathing it is a problem. But I...

ARCHIVED Getting Impatient With Improvements...
ArtGirl replied to jabberwife's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Me, too. In all the reading I've done on the forum, I haven't come across anyone mentioning itchy skin. If you ever find out what's causing this, let me know. I'm hoping that with healing this will diminish and eventually go away. -
ARCHIVED Getting Impatient With Improvements...
ArtGirl replied to jabberwife's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can surely relate. After three weeks gluten-free I started having other allergy symptoms and the D has not truly cleared up (although the violent symptoms have). Right now my skin is itchy, welts up if scratchd, and I am only a thin line away from breaking out in hives. I'm taking benedryl every night and that helps the symptoms (puts me to sleep, too)... -
Today I'm okay again, but two days ago I must have gotten glutened because the next morning (yesterday) I was quite snippy and angry at my husbad - for really no reason. He looked at me and said - "what's the matter with you - you must have been glutened." I didn't think so at the time, but about an hour later came the D and cramping. Yup, that was it....

Anyone Have Dumping Syndrome Related To Celiac Disease?
ArtGirl replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I read a few articles after googling "dumping syndrome". From this bit of information, it appears that this is a result of stomach surgery. I know, many of us experience "dumping" but I don't think it's the same thing. Just my opinion. -
I spent all my free time for about three weeks after I discovered this forum, and am still often here searching and reading old posts. There is such a wealth of information. Most of my questions and concerns have been answered by and expanded on by others and I've been "saved" from the trial-and-error method of determining safe foods and brands. I recently...

ARCHIVED The Rotation Diet
ArtGirl replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was on a four-day rotation diet about ten years ago. It was difficult but do-able. The only grain on my list was rice and I did without dairy altogether. After a while I got so that I knew what was in the food groups so didn't have to think too hard about it, but I did need to keep my chart handy so I knew what I was eating on any given day. And, yes... -
ARCHIVED Hamburger/lamb Patties With Lentil Soup
ArtGirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I had a can of Amy's lentil-vegetable soup (gluten-free) and though it'd go good with the lamb. Even if you think you don't like lamb, mixing it with the hamburger makes it much more of a mild flavor. And the soup is really tasty. one can of Amy's lentil-vegetable soup one pound (or more) ground meat - half hamburger, half lamb salt dried basil one... -

I use coconut oil for baking in place of shortening or butter - imparts a nice flavor to cakes, etc. -
ARCHIVED Cambell's Soup
ArtGirl replied to DrMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I often make my own tomato soup. Canned tomato sauce, a little oregano and basil, onion and/or garlic powder, and water or milk. I also like to put about a half a can of diced tomatoes for a little more bulk. I haven't used Cambell's soups in a long time because they all have MSG in them. Actually, most canned soups at the grocery store have MSG, so... -
ARCHIVED Need A Substitute For Cheese
ArtGirl replied to ArtGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for all the tips. I'll give some a try (except for those with soy) and will try to find the cookbook. (I found I had forgotten to "track" this thread so didn't think there was anymore activity on it - oops!) -
ARCHIVED Dairy And Soy Free Milk Help!
ArtGirl replied to sclark9602's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You can buy coconut milk at a regular grocery store. At my neighborhood store it is with the canned, condensed milks. But you may need to ask. -
ARCHIVED Dairy And Soy Free Milk Help!
ArtGirl replied to sclark9602's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Have you tried coconut milk? It comes in a can and I use it on cereal (diluted a bit with water as it can be more like cream right out of the can). It does have a mild coconut taste, but with some sweetening it is quite good. And, it's good in a fruit smoothie, especially with pineapple. I also use fruit juice on cereal - apple is really good. -
ARCHIVED My Psychologist Is Interested In Celiac Connection
ArtGirl replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
WOW Wiping eyes. Taking a deep breath.. You all are blowing me away with these personal stories. It is simply incredible the degree of psychological effects of gluten on some people. I would venture to say that it probably effects everyone's psyche at least somewhat - maybe a little sadness or moodiness that would be thought of as mostly normal. I tend... -
There are several good casserole recipes that, unfortunately, call for cheese. I'm off dairy and soy, so any immitation cheeses are out. I was wondering if maybe mayonnaise would work as a replacement - does it do okay cooked?

Do fire ants live in the midwest? We have a lot of ants - several sizes and colors. I never know when I've been bit by this bug. It's usually the next day that an area the size of a quarter becomes hot and begins to swell. Then, the next day the area is red and the blister begins to form, swelling to about the size of a very large pea over several hours...

Ohhh... I sure hope I follow this pattern. I've always wondered why I get bit all over when others hardly at all. I've even considered moving to a condo so as not to have to work in the yard I get so tired of having bites all over me all summer long. As I type this message I have 11 bug bites, a couple of them are doozies. This is from a couple days...
