  1. I finally got around to searching for CFdoc's thread that contains a recipe for challah bread. It, too, needs to be baked in a pan as the dough is soft. From the comments posted, it is very good bread. Open Original Shared Link
  2. Bette Hagman has a recipe for Challah bread in her book, More from the Gluten-Free Gourmet. However, it is a soft dough and must be baked in a bread pan. I may try it anyway, and perhaps add more flour so it's not so soft. I have no way of knowing if this will completely ruin the finished product. I may try it this week. (Have to do baking very early in...
  3. How very nice of him to accommodate you like that. It's times like this that make up for all the other negative experiences.
  4. I've looked through recipes in a couple gluten-free cookbooks for a bread recipe that can be molded and twisted like the traditional Challah bread. All the bread recipes I've seen, the dough is too soft to be molded and has to be baked in a pan or muffin tin. Anyone know of a recipe that will work for this?
  5. I've used coconut milk for cereal and baking and it works well. YOu have to like the taste of coconut, though, which I do. I usually water it down because often the canned coconut milk is a bit too thick for my taste. Also, I've used fruit juice on my cereal before. It's really pretty good this way. Certainly different.
  6. Me, too. This thread has been a real encouragement to me. I'm going to be patient and not get discouraged because what I've learned here is that it can take a lot of time and there'll be ups and downs - BUT - there is light at the end of the tunnel. I'm hang'n in there!
  7. My mouth has been watering reading through this thread. And I'm printing out all these great recipes. I just remembered a creamy salad dressing I've been making lately. Mayonaise with lemon juice, thinned with water and sweetened with sugar or stevia. Add dill for a nice variety. Or, (for those who can have dairy) add parmasan cheese for a Ceaser salad...
  8. I was visiting my son and daughter-in-law who have recently moved to Hermann. We wanted to eat out Saturday and thought this place would be good as they have steaks and salads. I called that afternoon and talked to Gordon - who actually knew what gluten-free was and assured me that they did not cook anything with gluten on the grill - so a steak would...
  9. Jackyln, I had been wondering the same thing as you, so this has been a very informative thread for me, as well. I THOUGHT I'd been gluten-free for at least a couple weeks but the D has continued to be a low-level problem. But now find that I haven't been completely gluten-free - took a look at some items in the bathroom and, for pete's sake, the hand...
  10. Time on this forum is time well spent. It's like taking a college course in gluten-intollerance - and it's free! Can't beat that. And, yes, I'm spending a lot of time here reading everything I can. I'm sure that after a few months I'll get on with my life and won't need the support here as much - but for now, this place is worth its weight in gold! ...
  11. This is a great thread. I can't wait until I've been on the gluten-free diet long enough to add to the list. You all give a newbee great hope!
  12. Here's the recipe from the link that didn't work on my earlier post. It contains no bread. GAZPACHO SERVES 4 Make it in the summer when the vegetables are at their finest and when lighter, as well as cold meals are most appropriate and appreciated. All of the amounts can be altered to taste, desired thickness or texture and to which vegetables are most...
  13. I've never heard of Gazpacho. So I did a Google search. Yes, my smoothies are a lot like this cold vegetable soup. I found a recipe for one from http://teriskitchen.com/soups/gazpacho.html, complete with the vinegar and oil. Anybody know if canned tomatoes and tomato juice are gluten-free? One could sub apple-cidar vinegar.
  14. I know, a "veggie" smoothie sounds yukky. Earlier this year I disolated my jaw and even after it was put back in place it took a week before the pain level reduced enough to chew my food. So, EVERYTHING went into the blender. Even my salad. Well, I found that I really liked the blended salad (I added vinegar and oil just like I would have done before blending...
  15. I want to know, too. Hubby and I just signed up for Tricare last week.
  16. Great news about Tricare. My husband retired from the Army Reserves just last month so we are signing up for Tricare. You've given me hope that we might get reimbursed for tests at Enterolab.
  17. Hello, THANK YOU EVERYONE HERE AND ESPECIALLY TO THOSE WHO STARTED THIS gluten-free-FORUM!! I've been lurking here for a couple weeks and have to say that I've learned gobs about gluten and celiac disease. I've had IBS problems for years and have begun to suspect being celiac, but at the very least, am gluten intollerant. My symptoms are delayed...
