  1. "Taco Bell- has Fresco crunchy tacos (lettuce, meat, and tomatos) has Fresco chicken bowl Cinnamon Twists (rice noodles with cinnamon)" Unless TB has suddenly changed ingredients, there are NOT gluten-free. TB meat seasoning contains wheat. The TB website lists allergens and there's only three things we can have there. Its a sure bet you cannot...
  2. I know a guy on another list who had two years left to retirement when he was diagnosed. He got to retirement but said there was no way he could have made it earlier in his career. richard
  3. "Both situations can be landmines, but of the two, friends is probably worse. They may very well never "get it." But then again they might. I have several friends who have gotten it. richard
  4. I eat out on occasion with full knowledge that it's risky, although I also don't have the extreme reactions some here have. Am I doing damage anyway? All I know is my tests are normal. That said, your best bet is to find local restaurant with a REAL chef that gets it. Somebody mentioned Applebee's. No offense to Applebee's employees, but very few have...
  5. "Thanks for the info. I guess the turkey broth is not something that i should be concerned about?" It's fine. The USDA requires that any grain be listed. In 7 years, I have yet to find a turkey that isn't gluten-free. richard
  6. When I've called the USDA they've told me that ANY grain MUST be listed because it adds nutritive value. I have been told specifically that barley has to be listed. richard
  7. I've gone to a local Japanese restaurant with family and taken my gluten-free soy sauce. The owner was very accommodating when we had tablefull. He told me that he had once tried using gluten-free soy sauce for everybody, but people complained that it didn't taste the same. It's been more than 7 years since I had soy sauce with wheat, so I don't remember...
  8. "Richard not to be rude, but they did not used to be gluten-free. I know this for a fact. My mom called and confirmed after I spent Thanksgiving night in the ER due to the butterball turkey my grandma made for dinner. (back then we ate at 2 P.M. for holiday dinners, not sure why)." You're not being rude. I don't know about 20 years ago, but there are...
  9. "Many turkeys have a broth added, that broth can contain barley hidden in natural flavors. It is true that if there is wheat in the broth that it will be listed but that is not the case for barley or malt which is the bigger risk. If you go for a turkey that is not prebasted and does not have broth on the label you should be fine." I've called the USDA...
  10. The USDA REQUIRES that any grain be clearly listed in meat. All you need do is read the ingredients. In 7 years I've never found a turkey that isn't gluten-free. richard
  11. You are or you aren't. Although I'm not a doctor and don't play one online, from what you've said, I'd say you have celiac. richard
  12. Play Doh is a no no, but the rest are OK. richard
  13. If your son has DH he has or will have celiac. The National Institutes of Health have declared that if you have DH, you don't even need to be tested for celiac. You have it. richard
  14. "Btw, is turkey NOT gluten free? I noticed you said a gluten free turkey. I've been vegetarian for 3 years so I have never looked into meats but wouldn't meats be gluten free? Do some come with seasonings on them already or something like that? Yikes." Turkey is definitely gluten-free UNLESS wheat, rye, or barley is listed in the ingredients. This is required...
  15. "Hello...I am new to this site but figured you all could help me. My son (8 yrs old) has not really been healthy since this past summer. He played on a travelling baseball team and we attributed some of the symptoms to the heat...that was until he had blood in his stool a few months ago. Since then, we have been in and out of doctor's offices for diarrhea...
  16. "I read that many candy companies dust their conveyor belts with flour so the candy doesn't stick, and no, it isn't on the label. Type of flour unspecified." In more than 7 years I think I found exactly one company that did this using wheat flour. And they discontinued the practice. richard
  17. "Does anyone out there think we will see Dr. Fine's research published early next year? " Nope. He's been saying this for many years and we have yet to see it.
  18. I would guess you're not finding it because once you've read it, it disappears from your new posts list until somebody answers. Once you get an answer, you'll see it again. You can still see it by going to the category you posted it in. richard
  19. "And WHOLE FOODS who will no longer sell Kinnikinnick because of "ingredient issues" is leaving them on their shelves!!!" Please, please, please, let's make it clear that the ingredient issues with Kinnikinnick have nothing whatsoever to do with gluten. It's because Whole Foods doesn't carry foods with hydrogenated fats. richard
  20. The smoke flavor and caramel color shouldn't be a problem. Please commit to gluten-free. As I said, I had DH with no idea about celiac disease and I ended up so sick I missed 10 weeks of work. GO gluten-free. richard
  21. Easy. richard
  22. Only the second time at a PF Chang (Metarie, La.) and all was well. Glad to have eaten there. richard
  23. "But... Beware of sauces! One of the popular spiral sliced hams has a glaze that contains gluten. The ham is fine. The glaze is not." Indeed. As I noted in my original post, you must check glazed hams. richard
  24. Where are you from? I've never heard of chicken salt. richard
