  1. Am I reading this correctly? Has TB removed wheat from their taco beef? richard
  2. I'm not a huge gluten-free bread fan, but making your own is definitely the best. richard
  3. I truly feel for you and your problems, but you also have to realize that only a very tiny miniscule itsy-bitsy percentage of people are faced with what you're faced with. For instance, I can't eat gluten but have no allergies to anything else. Labeling every single ingredient as to exactly what goes into it and where it all comes from (both of which can...
  4. Smirnoff's. Corn. How the heck wlould that be a celiac reaction? richard
  5. There's a lot of old info out there on the Web. You must check out the age of the info. On the positive side, that list probably doesn't include some things that weren't gluten-free then but are now, like Corn Chex. richard
  6. "As far as things I avoid, I do stay away from maltodextrins, I have called a few places and the person I talked to did not know where it came from." If they have the package for the food all they have to do is read the ingredients. If the maltodextrin is made from wheat (which is EXTREMELY rare) the wheat must by law be listed in the U.S. And it doesn...
  7. My wife had to go to strict bedrest for the last month of her first pregnancy because of pre-eclampsia and severely high BP. None of that happened during her second pregnancy. richard
  8. Yes, not all people with celiac are skinny. That's one of the celiac urban legends, overweight people can't have celiac. richard
  9. And I've never found one of those with gluten. richard
  10. Absolutely NOT. Please do NOT pass this along to any other board or group. End this rumor right here and now. richard
  11. Generally speaking pots and pans are OK as long as cleaned well. As for a grill, clean well or cook your food on aluminum wrap. Natural charcoal and Kingsford don't have wheat binder (Kingsford did but got rid of it). richard
  12. I've never found a flavored coffee that wasn't gluten-free, except where they add stuff at a place like Starbucks. richard
  13. For pizzas or sandwiches use corn tortillas. Very cheap and better for you. Or roll sandwich fixings in lettuce. richard
  14. No need to be confused and please ignore the past answers - at least for the U.S. Fresh meat MUST list anything that adds nutritional value, and that includes ANY grain --wheat, rye, barley. This is a USDA rule that is much older than the allergen rule and has nothing to do with it. If it's not listed in the meat, it's gluten-free. Period. No further discussion...
  15. You can't quit the diet when you have celiac. Celiac is for life. richard
  16. You can eat just half of it at a time. richard
  17. Keep it up. I quit about 8 years ago when I was hospitalized as they diagnosed my celiac disease. I didn't have the energy to go downstairs in the hospital (I couldn't even walk the corridor) and smoke and didn't feel like it for about 3 weeks. Bad way to quit, but I'm so glad I did. richard
  18. Body type/blood type is useless BS. richard
  19. My DH was essentially itchy blisters filled with clear fluid -- looking almost like a burn blister. Very difficult to heal after popping. Mostly on pressure points like knees, elbows, scalp. My DH went away almost immediately, but that's unusual. Most people report that it can take up to 18 months. I took me about 10 months to return to what I considered...
  20. Becky's skin problems look nothing like my DH did. Abe's is a little closer but can't tell from that one photo. richard
  21. It's bunk. Millions and millions bought this book and, of course, it was right on for a certain percentage of them, which then made it seem real. I'm an O but so are numerous friends (O is the most common) and none of them have celiac or problems with wheat. richard
  22. Although I've never purposely cheated in more than 7 years (OK, I did have one non-gluten-free, non-wheat beer, which really has virtually no gluten), I can understand the desire to do so. And the reality is that a VERY large percentage of people with celiac do cheat purposely at least once. I was very, very ill, the memory of which helps keep me straight...
  23. Probably a local thing. You should realize that because you have DH, you have celiac and are most likely doing yourself damage other than itchy skin. My father had few symptoms other than DH but at age 70 was diagnosed with definite celiac. He went gluten-free but still lost most of his teeth, most likely because of the years of eating gluten. I also had...
  24. "Unless I've recently called the company, I'm avoiding all maltodextrin simply because on a moment's notice, some corporate bean-counter who can get maltodextrin cheaper in asia will change their source, and suddenly you get wheat from something that did not cause problems before." As pointed out, it doesn't matter where an ingredient is made, if you sell...
