  1. I agree that it's gluten-free. richard
  2. With ice cream, you're pretty much clear if it doesn't say wheat or malt. richard
  3. Cook it in broth in stead of water. richard
  4. Bacon, at least in the U.S., is almost without exception gluten-free. What brand did you use for your family? Of course it if has wheat it HAS to be listed. And I've never heard of barley or rye in bacon. The bacon almost certainly did not contaminate you. richard
  5. If wheat or malt flavoring isn't listed, it's going to be gluten-free. richard
  6. No need to check. EVERYTHING they make is gluten-free.
  7. CYA. We use Pam all the time. richard
  8. Since Celiac Specialties is a completely gluten free shop, I think it's a safe bet this a mock rye bread without the rye. richard
  9. I'd also suspect the cereal before the fruit. Wheat in frozen fruit!! Egad!! Think what that would do to the taste and texture of it. Blecch. richard
  10. Probably coincidence. I don't eat the fries because I think they stink, and I'm certainly not urging you to ever eat them again, but the odds are that you finally just got CCed the one time you ate the fries. And maybe the CC came from the fryer. But every single organization that has tested the McD fries (in a pure environment, of course) has been unable...
  11. "I have a nightshade sensitivity to potatoes." Sounds like this was a large part of your reaction. richard
  12. Agreed. All of my son's teachers make it clear that citing Wikipedia for anything is NOT allowed. It's simply not trustworthy. richard
  13. Simple answer -- yes. Happens frequently. richard
  14. Sounds pretty conclusive that the pickles are without a doubt gluten-free. Something else is happening. richard
  15. It's my understanding that Ttg can come down pretty darn fast, particularly in a child. I was in my 40s and mine went from 200 to below 20 in less than 6 months. It's HIGHLY unlikely that both the blood test and the biopsy would be false positive. And if her symptoms got better, that just adds to the evidence. I'm not a doctor, but I'd say she has celiac...
  16. As always I'll keep an eye on the ingredients for a change, but the Quakes that I just bought do not list wheat. richard
  17. Plain chicken from a store -- virtually no chance it will have gluten. Seasoned chicken from a store -- you ALWAYS must check. Seasoned chicken from a restaurant -- you ALWAYS have to check. Some do and some don't. When KFC came out with a grilled chicken many of us thought we might have something to eat there. Nope. Spices or marinade have wheat...
  18. Here's a list of GFRASP places in NYC Open Original Shared Link If you take the (free) Staten Island Ferry be sure to get and walk a couple of blocks to the right, where you'll find Tuttoriso. Maybe the best gluten-free bread I've ever had. I think the whole place is gluten-free. We also tried Risotteria -- gluten-free pizzas and paninis. Very good...
  19. VERY unlikely that it was gluten. richard
  20. "No one should have to prove anything." When you claim, as you frequently seem to do, that certain products OFTEN contain gluten, but then you never offer any specific examples when asked, then, yes, you should provide some proof. Scaring people needlessly is irresponsible. This is what the CSA used to do -- and still does to some degree. People still...
  21. "I do not bother to read flavored coffee labelsI do however know, many flavored teas contain gluten. Celestial Seasoning Teas will always list gluten, and many of them do contain gluten." Indeed they do, and they list the gluten. Exactly what does that have to do with coffee? richard
  22. I agree with Lisa. Artificial flavors will not have gluten. Natural flavors CAN, but it's really a very, very minor concern. In fact, now that wheat has to be listed in the U.S., hidden gluten is VERY rare as long as you know that malt and malt flavoring are probably barley. It seems to me that CC and finding restaurants that can get it right are much...
  23. Sensodyne is gluten-free. This is a standard CYA. richard
  24. Most mainstream salsas I know about are indeed gluten-free. Remember that any wheat would have to be listed, as it was in the salsa that started this thread. Rye and oats won't be in salsa. That leaves barley, which is usually listed as malt. Has anybody found out why Pace was delisted? Is wheat or anything that could hide barley now in the ingredients...
