    ARCHIVED Candy

Attached to the top message at the link below is a large candy list drawn up last Halloween. It's possible some have changed since then, but probably very few if any. Generally speaking, I've found that with candy you'll see either wheat, malt, or oats listed if it's not gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link richard
  2. Heck, the white vinegar probably isn't even made from wheat. richard
  3. All sounds gluten-free. Maybe it wasn't gluten at all? We tend to blame every bad feeling on gluten. richard
  4. Please explain what exactly is wrong with that. richard
  5. Everybody has to make their own decisions, but my life would be absolutely miserable if I never ate out. Sorry, that's just not an option for me. Instead, I make wise choices and talk to places ahead of time. richard
  6. Seems to be gluten-free. richard
  7. In the U.S. the vast majority of these products do not contain "fillers." For instance, the only hot dog I've found that isn't gluten-free is Nathan's, and wheat is clearly listed. About the only sausages I've found that aren't gluten-free are ones with beer in them. Of course you should always check the ingredients. richard
  8. Always check the ingredients, but I have yet to find a pastrami that isn't gluten-free. In fact, the vast majority of sandwich meats are gluten-free. richard
  9. Five guys is certainly no more dangerous than any other place. Their burgers are all beef; no "filler." And fries are the ONLY thing they put in the fryers. richard
  10. A person who has recovered from undiagnosed celiac wouldn't be in any extra danger from the flu but I can't say about somebody whose blood levels are still off. All celiac experts recommend that ALL first-degree relatives of someone with celiac disease be tested. While you can only suggest that any siblings or parents be tested, you most certainly should...
  11. ALL of these items are gluten-free. As for CC, always hard to say. richard
  12. Don't know that this will help, but... For many years I had DH but had no idea it was celiac. I took dapsone and was fine for more than 20 years. Suddenly, I was EXTREMELY ill -- to the point I was probably dying. In the hospital for 11 days and missed work for 10 weeks. Didn't feel normal for 10 months. Is this what you want to come to before you...
  13. I was SO relieved when they diagnosed me, especially since half my doctors were convinced I had non-Hodgkins lymphoma. richard
  14. We an all get together in B'burg sometime if you folks want. I know a few other people with celiac disease. richard
  15. If it has gluten it will list wheat. Barley won't be an ingredient. richard
  16. What theater chain? Did you check ingredients? Is there some weird situation where CC could be happening? I ask because this would be a help to everybody here. This is the first I've heard in a VERY long tome of anybody suspecting gluten in theater popcorn. richard
  17. I don't take it but I would. In fact, I might. Allergy season coming on soon. richard
  18. Among the microwave popcorns I don't know of any that have gluten. You might want to avoid them for all the other things they have, but that's your choice. As for rolling popcorn stands, theaters, fairs, and amusement parks, nobody can say that without a doubt all are gluten-free. However, we do know that the most popular popcorn flavoring or fake butter...
  19. Plain old basic spices will be just that. And any wheat in any blends would have to be listed. And in most cases I wouldn't think CC would be much of an issue. richard
  20. According to the Canadian Celiac Assoc, all their tests showed that even blue cheese started from bread mold is gluten-free. I've never heard of white chocolate with gluten. Any time you eat at a restaurant, CC is a possibility. richard
  21. "The info on it says all of the above are likely to happen but because the DH is SO DARN AWFUL I didn't seem to care." For those considering dapsone, the info says that these things CAN happen, but that severe reactions are exceedingly rare and the other reactions go away after you stop or adjust the dose. What happened to the person who posted this is...
  22. I'd say it doesn't. Certainly not at the place my daughter used to work. And if some place were doing this, it most certainly violate health regulations. richard
  23. Thank you, Lisa, for the Canadian study of blue cheese. I had believed for years that blue cheese is gluten-free, but had never seen a study. This is great. Here's the direct link for CCA synopsis of the study. Open Original Shared Link richard
  24. In fact, most blue cheese culture is no longer "started" on bread. And, at least in the U.S., the VAST majority of "natural flavors" do not have gluten. Wheat would have to be listed and barley is only rarely a part of natural flavors. If you were eating from a salad bar, you probably were glutened by CC, not by ranch dressing. richard
