  1. Your cheat sheet is old. IF maltodextrin comes from wheat -- which does indeed VERY rarely happen in products from Europe where they are excessively paranoid about GMO corn -- the wheat MUST absolutely be identified. This is a law separate even from the allergen law, which would also cover maltodextrin (at least in food). richard

    ARCHIVED Dh And Cd

Although there are those who say a skin cream causes them a skin reaction, everybody I know personally who had DH has absolutely no reaction from touching flour or using anything with wheat in it. This includes me, my father, and a few other people. richard

    ARCHIVED Dh And Cd

According to all experts I know of, DH is basically a skin form of celiac. The NIH now says that if you have DH, don't even get tested for celiac disease because you either have it or you will have it. Period. I had DH for 20 years before I got extremely ill from celiac. richard
  4. Nine months is WAY too early to be tested for celiac. At that age, the tests mean nothing. richard
  5. Never heard of a mayo that's not gluten-free. I wonder what the ingredients are. richard
  6. I would agree that commercial mayo is gluten-free, but CC is a problem if others are also using it from a jar. richard
  7. Remember that wheat is one of the top 8 allergens? There are plenty of people who can't have wheat but can have barley, rye or oats. In fact, there are probably more people who avoid just wheat than there are people who avoid all gluten. richard
  8. Well, whomever the GS were targeting I seriously doubt it was people who are allergic to sugar. Probably dieters. Point is, there's no chance at all the GS will be making a gluten-free cookie. It wouldn't be profitable and a box would probably run about $10. And I doubt you'll see them stop selling cookies. They make too much money. richard
  9. The ingredients sound OK but the teflon pan might not have been. There are those who say scratched up teflon retains gluten. If symptoms return after you eat the meatballs again, I think you'd have to consider tossing them. richard
  10. BTW, from my experience I'd say that most people with celiac do NOT experience "days or weeks of pain" after CC. In my case, I feel crummy and sometimes have diarrhea, but it's certainly not painful and it rarely lasts more than a day. And while I
  11. If we're talking just plain raw Bell and Evans I don't see what's to be suspicious about. richard
  12. If you don't react to a CC then it's pretty tough to say you actually had CC. I guess there are some situations where you might find out afterward even without a reaction, but I'd guess that would be rare. richard
  13. Have you redone the blood tests to see if it's really gluten this time? It could be something else. richard
  14. If you eat out or eat processed foods or live with somebody who isn't gluten-free, then , no, you cannot avoid ALL gluten. You will get some somewhere. Even people who are more sensitive probably get tiny amounts without knowing it unless they avoid all of the above. BUT, you can avoid it the vast majority of the time -- and for most of us that's what we...
  15. It definitely gets easier, although the eating out and socializing thing will always be something of a challenge. I've been gluten-free for 8 years now. When eating at home, there are so many things that are just naturally gluten-free. Meat, vegetables, fruit, eggs, plain rice and so on. Quite a few processed foods are also gluten-free. And many things...
  16. Ummm, Riceguy I'm not concerned about death and destruction. I haven't had the flu in 23 years and prefer not to ever have it again. Period. richard
  17. gluten-free richard
  18. I admit that my daughter was out of GSA before my diagnosis, but I was the cookie dad for three years and she was the girl who sold 500-600 boxes a year. My wife and son still get cookies every and I'm perfectly happy with that. I've got my own yummy treats. richard
  19. Vitamins? richard
  20. Hate to be discouraging, but this is from the GSA website. Note that even when they tried a sugar free to appeal to diabetics and dieters, it didn't work. And there are a LOT more people with diabetes and on diets than with celiac. Q: Why don't you offer cookies that are whole-wheat, wheat-free, non-dairy, dairy-free, vegan, sugar-free, gluten-free, organic...
  21. OK, I was wrong about Utz being national. They're everywhere here. They HAVE slowly expanded over the years. richard
  22. Strange that you can get them almost anywhere -- or anywhere -- in Va. but not in western Pa. richard
  23. Why are you afraid to try deli hummus? Hummus should be quite safe, unless it's right out there in the open with gluten nearby. richard
  24. Mono and diglycerides are not a problem as far as gluten goes. Check with the company to make sure, but with ice cream, if it doesn't list wheat or malt, it's almost certainly gluten-free. richard
  25. I live in Va. and Utz chips are everywhere. Definitely not special order. I think they're national now. richard
