  1. Aren't all Wrigley gums gluten-free? Or has that changed? Orbit (there are many flavors) definitely doesn't have wheat and no obvious barley. richard
  2. Wheat would have to be listed. I can't imagine barley being in there. richard
  3. And I was undiagnosed for 46 years. My opinion remains the same. richard
  4. I've never heard of these, but if there's no wheat listed, they should be gluten-free. richard
  5. I don't see celiac as an excuse to avoid jury duty. richard
  6. Celiac blood tests are almost never false positive. If her numbers are high, she almost certainly has celiac. A lack of MAJOR symptoms really is not all that rare. She probably does have some minor ones that you don't even recognize. I know I did, but never did have failure to thrive, anemia or diarrhea. And then suddenly at age 46 I was deathly ill. Endoscopy...
  7. While McD does list wheat in their fries, the fries have been independently tested and have shown NO measurable level of gluten. Even CSA, which is extremely cautious and even alarmist sometimes, agrees there is no measurable gluten in the fries. richard
  8. I stay away. Period. If your dish had soy sauce, it had wheat. richard
  9. Caramel color is safe. If it says modified food starch but doesn't list wheat, it's going to be safe. richard
  10. According to my web search, Jose's is a Costco brand. Odds are it does NOT contain gluten, but you'd have to talk to Costco. richard
  11. Plain old rice is something I gave up worrying about years ago.
  12. There are those out there demanding "zero" as the standard even though there's no way to measure such. Some claim they can't tolerate even, say 3 ppm, but can't tell us how that can be measured or measured at a cost that still makes food affordable. Crickets chirping. richard
  13. Pretty full of yourself, aren't you? BTW, thanks for all that great advice and help you're given since 2007 -- all six posts worth. richard
  14. They are indeed gluten-free. Can't make any guarantees as to CC, although Heinz has never bothered me. Large numbers of processed foods are exposed to possible CC. richard
  15. Anemia was my major symptom. In fact, it got so bad , I had to be hospitalized, which finally led to the diagnosis. Anemia and the resulting fatigue are, in fact, the most common symptom of celiac. richard
  16. If the doctor did the standard celiac panel and and the numbers were very high, all I an tell you is that false positives on these tests are exceedingly rare. You can, of course, still have an endoscopy done if you want, but it might be tough if the doctor won't order it. The vast majority of people with celiac have few or no symptoms (or they've been...
  17. Of course everybody is free to do what they will, but the fact is caramel color simply is NOT made from wheat or barley. And maltodextrin almost never is except sometimes in Europe. And no, wheat is not cheaper than corn, especially since the price of corn has plummeted. richard
  18. Read the ingredients. Can't say about potential CC. richard
  19. I agree that your situation is very tough and I'm so sorry for you. I'm afraid I'm no help on the phrase you asked about, but it sounds like different very competent physicians could come to different conclusions. richard
  20. Tons and tons of commercial dressings are gluten-free. Many, many, many more are gluten-free than not. richard
  21. Well, your GI knows more about celiac disease and your allergist knows more about allergies. Only you know them. I gues you could opt for a third opinion, but I'm not sure who you would see unless you want to try to get into one of the top celiac disease guys in the country. I don't see any way to determine whether your son will be able to tolerate grains...
  22. Many of your symptoms could be connected to celiac, but then celiac has something like 200 possible symptoms.Heavy people can indeed have celiac but inability to gain weight is more common. And as you know some of your problems might be the result of the extra weight. Bottom line is that there' no way we can diagnose you. You can go for the blood tests...
  23. Don't go during busy times. Establish a relationship with a place (won't be so possible on vacation). Higher end places generally are indeed generally safer. Europe in generally more gluten-free aware, so you might be able to go authentic, but first see if they understand English. Some will. richard
  24. Please provide some proof of this. And why the heck did you even bring it up in this thread? richard
  25. This is not the Betty Crocker website and in fact would appear be a U.K. website. The flavor shown isn't offered in the U.S. at all. Betty Crocker is a General Mills company and I think still says it will clearly list any gluten. You can see ingredients for the frostings at the BC site. richard
