  1. Dishwasher detergent has always been safe. I don't think that's your problem. richard
  2. From what you've said, even if the bloodwork comes back negative or borderline, I would urge you to try going gluten-free. You have nothing to lose. richard
  3. It appears WalMart has suddenly gotten paranoid and is labeling many things "may contain wheat." Either that or they changed to different facilities that also produce wheat products. I don't shop there, but somebody who does should try to pursue this with headquarters. richard
  4. I don't think that being diagnosed with celiac adds any danger. If you're not healed yet, that MIGHT be another matter. richard
  5. Cheetos remain on the Frito-Lay gluten-free list. To see it, go to fritolay.com and click on the section about special diets. I don't think Cheetos are made on a dedicated line, in case that's a concern for you. richard
  6. I'd eat them. richard
  7. Different people react in different ways. My reaction is much shorter, but others have very long reaction periods. richard
  8. You might have been told this before, but pregnancy is one of those suspected triggers for people who already have the celiac gene. richard
  9. And as the USDA has told me numerous times, it doesn't matter what part of the additives to raw meat, ALL grains must be listed. Period. With meat, just read the ingredients. It's very easy. richard
  10. First, there's just no evidence fish is an antidote to gluten. As for barley powder, barley is generally lower in gluten than wheat. That does not mean, however, that you should eat it. You shouldn't. richard
  11. The seams and such are where we found pretty much all our live bedbugs. The mattress and boxspring were only a year old, but we elected to throw them out. richard
  12. I know, but, hey, that's the way it is. richard
  13. larry mac is right. Plain old cider isn't fermented and has no alcohol. Hard cider has alcohol. At least that's the way we refer to them in the U.S. richard
  14. While endoscopies are generally safe, my father suffered a punctured bowel during his. Ended up in the hospital for days. richard
  15. I'm afraid we don't have a prayer of getting a gluten-free Girl Scout cookie unless we come up with tens of millions more poeple demanding it. They couldn't even make a sugar-free cookie sell. richard
  16. Every time this subject has come up every expert seems to agree -- you cannot get gluten simply because an animal ate wheat. Notice that NO organization or list warns anybody to avoid meat because of what the animal eats. Even the CSA, which is generally the most paranoid of celiac organizations, doesn't warn against this. richard
  17. BTW, it's my understanding that bedbugs can survive up to 18 months without eating. richard
  18. Doesn't seem common to me. richard
  19. Nuts have never bothered me. richard
  20. Flavors extracted by alcohol are extracted by distilled alcohol. Distilled alcohol is gluten-free. richard
  21. Peter is right. Injectables do not have gluten. You don't even need to ask. richard
  22. If you have DH (I did, but people didn't know that then), you have celiac. Period. No other tests are really necessary UNLESS your doctor is afraid there's also something else going on. richard
  23. Ice cream is almost without exception gluten-free EXCEPT the obvious stuff -- cookies and cream, Oreo, and such. For the most part, if the ingredients don't list wheat or malt, it's gluten-free. richard
  24. Very little is produced in dedicated facilities, so it's your choice. I eat processed foods not made in dedicated facilities and I also eat out, which is always a crapshoot. It all depends on how sensitive you are and your own feelings. I am just medium sensitive and I choose to live a relatively normal life that includes going out, even if that does put...
