  1. I would add that Smirnoff is corn-based, and the flavorings almost certainly would not contain wheat, rye, barley, or oats. richard
  2. Staying off property is somewhat cheaper but if you an afford it, staying on property is MUCH more convenient. richard
  3. I know of no one whop has has a celiac reaction to eating produce. Every single celiac expert I know of says fresh produce is gluten-free. This is not something to worry about. richard
  4. The VAST majority of lunch meats are in fact gluten-free. The "additives" almost never have gluten, at least in the U.S.

    ARCHIVED Having My Children Tested

Your doctor is wrong. Get them tested. Tell him that the NIH recommends this. richard
  6. The ped is right. richard
  7. Did it actually ever say gluten-free on the box, or were you just assuming it did because people said it was gluten-free? I didn't think Nestle labeled things gluten-free. richard
  8. The fact that it's made in a facility that also has wheat doesn't necessarily mean it isn't gluten-free. I eat --and so do many people with celiac -- a number of items made in facilities with wheat. Every time you eat a restaurant, you're doing the same thing. It's simply a matter of choice. richard
  9. If the Bette Hagman recipes have it, it's most definitely gluten-free. No question. richard
  10. "The only physical manifestation of celiac I had to cope with before was DH, but that was controlled successfully with Dapsone." This is not a lecture but more of a warning. DH was my only symptom for more than 20 years. And then I was suddenly so sick I ended up in the hospital for 11 days and missed 10 weeks of work. It took 10 months to return to normal...
  11. Whether or not your infant ends up with celiac, gluten is highly unlikely to have any negative effects at this stage. Your child is not going to develop celiac at this early age. I'd follow the NICU advice. richard
  12. It's gluten-free, although not the one with pancakes, of course. richard
  13. "Gluten" is a generic term that covers way too much ground to be an allergen. Grains like corn and rice have "gluten," as do other grains, I'm sure. richard
  14. In the U.S. you don't find wheat as a "binder" in deli meats. richard
  15. In reality the VAST majority of prepackaged meats are gluten-free. With Kraft, all you have to do is read the ingredients. I don't think any Hillshire Farm lunch meats have gluten, but just read the label. All Carl Buddigs meats are gluten-free. All Boar's Head meats are gluten-free, but if you're getting them sliced at the deli, ask them to clean the slicer...
  16. "k thanks! btw your pretty cute!" Settle down now, those are the poster's daughters. richard
  17. To any of you out there who has lost a sibling or child, the candle we lit last night was also for all of you. richard
  18. gluten-free richard
  19. "Im not sure I know what normal time means????" The pediatrician would be a better source of information than I would, but it's at least several months.
  20. Both are OK. richard
  21. While I wouldn't necessarily discourage you from finding gluten-free formula, most if not all celiac experts think wheat should be introduced to the diet at the normal time. There's even been research that suggests that doing this lowers the chance of developing celiac. The odds are still high that your child will never develop celiac. I see no reason...
  22. Never found a food dye of concern, but with McCormick, just read the ingredients. richard
  23. The broth added to meat virtually never contains gluten. And there's one easy way to tell -- read the ingredients. The USDA requires that any grain of any sort be listed.
  24. No, but I have been told that Zeppoli's Italian keeps gluten-free pasta on hand. Haven't been there to test it or called them, though. richard
