  1. "I have read this somewhere before too, right now I can't find a link, but that doesn't mean it isn't true. When we hear something that may be a problem, it's always good to mention it, that way others do know enough to check and make sure what they ARE using doesnt contain gluten. Thank you for" the warning Whimsikay!! Well golly that proves it, Deb....
  2. Never ever found a vanilla ice cream that wasn't gluten-free. richard
  3. Nope. Your post made no sense (I also don't see where anybody else thought it made sense) and I'm asking you to explain. I'm also still asking for your proof that Cynthia took money to defend McDonalds. Nothing about that is looking for an argument. It's looking for proof you're not libeling one of the top celiac advocates in the country. It would...
  4. "I doubt your beyond this..." Whether you believe it or not, this makes absolutely no sense. Is "your" supposed to be "you're?" And "beyond" what? Still awaiting your proof of Cynthia's sellout. I have to assume you have none. richard
  5. It's gluten-free. McCormick will clearly list any gluten. richard
  6. I have never, ever heard of a coffee manufacturer that uses flour on the lines to keep beans from sticking. If you have evidence of a particular manufacturer that does that, you need to name them up front for us so that we can avoid them. If you don't know of one but just heard this somewhere, please don't pass it along. There are already enough celiac urban...
  7. "I doubt your beyond this but you would need to read on testing methodology. " Gfp, sorry to be dense, but can you explain what this means? richard
  8. So GFP, we're still breathlessly waiting on your evidence that Cynthia is a sell out or was paid by McDonalds. richard
  9. Generally speaking it takes days for blisters to form. On average, it's slower than other celiac disease reactions. Of course everybody's different. As for the iodine question, iodine can aggravate or trigger DH even though there's no gluten, but once you're completely gluten-free, it shouldn't cause problems. It never did cause any problems for me, but...
  10. Burger King fries do NOT have a "coating" on them in the U.S. A quick trip to their website will tell you they are gluten-free. How safe are they? Can't tell you that, but there's no gluten there. Their burgers are also gluten-free without the bun, but really aren't very good that way, IMO. They also have salads that are gluten-free. I'm not a fan of...
  11. In general DH is worse at pressure points or where the skin is closer to the bone -- elbows, knees, etc. I had DH for more than 20 years but have never found detergents or fabric softeners to be a problem. richard
  12. "Richard, I really have no wish to argue over either spelling nor moot points." GFP, you and I will always without question disagree on some things, but when you accused Cynthia of being a "sell out," being paid by McDonalds to lie, setting back safe eating for celiacs by years, and calling her a "self-appointed" spokesperson (which she very obviously...
  13. "What we need is a proper control where people really are not eating gluten and antibodies measured. This means zero gluten." Unless something has changed recently, I didn't think it was possible to measure for sero gluten. Am I behind on this? richard
  14. BTW, I think it's misleading to say Cynthia is a "self-appointed" spokesperson. She was hired to do a job and she has become something of a spokesperson because of her knowledge and the respect most of us have for her. richard
  15. "However: Again, this is almost mute as many distilled alcohols then add caramel color or other possible gluten containing products. " I assume you mean moot. As for adding caramel color (which I have NEVER found to contain gluten) and other products, I've yet to find an alcohol in the U.S. where they added something with gluten. Have you? richard
  16. "I think you need to reread what I wrote as you misquoted me while talking about CUK. Here is what I wrote: QUOTE Don't get me wrong, she's not alone ... the UK equivalent is just as bad ... and a little research shows the directors of the "non profit" organisation raking in the $$$$ and passing questionable resto's that pay." Just to point out. ...
  17. I'm not familiar with that brand, but it's almost certainly gluten-free. In fact, I've never heard of a brand that isn't. The vegetable broth is generally made of vegetables. In the U.S., the USDA requires that any grain in meat be listed, so whatever happened, there's almost no question it wasn't the tuna. richard
  18. I'm sure that some specific chapters are better than others. That usually depends on the leadership and how involved members are willing to be. This is true with virtually any organization. richard
  19. "So, as far as allergies go, does wheat HAVE to listed as an ingredient (regardless how small of an amount they use)? Do all labels HAVE to declare if they are made in factories containing wheat? Does this go for products actually manufactured in the U.S., or for anything made FOR the U.S.? " Wheat has to be listed if it's purposely added as an ingredient...
  20. Same opinion, you really MUST tell your server every time. And ask that the server pass it along to the kitchen. richard
  21. Given your screen name I'm not sure that you're in the U.S., but these days in the U.S., wheat would have to be listed as an ingredient. And manufacturers are unlikely to use wheat flour for this anyway; most likely it would be cellulose. I say this because your problem might not be the garlic powder, which means you need to keep looking. Have you called...
  22. BTW, cruelshoes, thanks for asking about topics for the next GIG conference. richard
  23. "(what is RD..." It's really not all that tough to figure out. RD -- registered dietitian. She's internationally recognized as an expert in various aspects of celiac and gluten free eating. She is also chair of Dietitians in Gluten Intolerance Diseases (DIGID), a specialty group within the American Dietetic Association (ADA) working to provide quality...
  24. "No animosity at all directed at you. I'm just miffed that GIG could be such a great resource, and they aren't. " Let's see, GIG got Outback, Carraba's etc to come up with a gluten-free menu, it started the gluten-free certification program for companies, it's involved in another restaurant program, it successfully challenged NUMEROUS false alarms about...
  25. Hey, gfp, Cynthia Kupper has done more good for people with celiac than you would do if you lived another 500 years. richard
