  1. Yes, it's safe. And in the U.S. if it had wheat, it would have to be listed. richard
  2. From Wikipedia: Modified starch is a food additive which is prepared by treating starch or starch granules, causing the starch to be partially degraded. Modified starch is used as a thickening agent, stabilizer, or an emulsifier. Apart from food products, modified starch is also found in pharmaceuticals. Starches are modified for a number of reasons...
  3. I can't make any guarantees about all products, but I'm unaware of any ink that contains gluten. richard
  4. Sandraprint, I'm not sure this will help you any, but let me answer from a different perspective. You wish you were diagnosed with something other than celiac; I was DELIGHTED it was celiac. Why? Because I was essentially dying of malnutrition and every doctor I had was convinced it was either a failing liver or non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Think about dealing...
  5. The only hot dog I know that has gluten is Nathan's and it's clearly listed. The vast majority of lunch-type meat is also gluten-free, although you should check labels. richard
  6. Corn and corn gluten are gluten-free. Rice also has gluten. It'd gluten-free. richard
  7. Most folks think it's a good idea for your boyfriend to wash his mouth out before kissing, but that oral sex is not a problem. Don't worry, it's been discussed before. richard
  8. I don't have statistics handy and I certainly don't intend to minimize the health consequences of untreated celiac (I was EXTREMELY ill when diagnosed; so ill I missed 10 weeks of work), but we should remember that even though our chances of certain types of cancer are increased, the chances are still very tiny. It's something to be aware of, but not something...
  9. Go to heinzbaby.com. There's a nutrition and ingredients site and they list wheat/gluten. richard
  10. Gluten and iodine are the only dietary items I've ever heard of that can trigger DH. And the iodine shouldn't be a problem after you clear your body of the Iga deposits. I don't worry about iodine and I haven't had a DH attack in years. richard
  11. Are you gluten free? If not, that's what you really need to do. richard
  12. It doesn't look anything like my DH did. Mine looked like large clear blisters. richard
  13. Joy of Cooking has a great blue cheese dressing recipe. Or you can find one online. richard
  14. There's no reason to blame yourself. As parents, we can pass on num erous things, both positive and negative. The main this is that you got her tested. richard
  15. If they're cutting back it's no doubt based on economics. While estimates say there might be as many as 2 million in the U.S. with celiac, only a very small percentage is diagnosed. And many of us who ARE diagnosed simply don't eat bread any more. I would think individual messages would be more effective. And add your appreciation that they make gluten...
  16. Chili on pasta!!! Blasphemy. Anyway, if you go to chilicookoff.com or any similar site about chili cookoffs, they have lots of recipes of winning entries. No beans or pasta allowed. richard
  17. Salmon is gluten-free no matter what it's fed. But I certainly prefer wild. richard
  18. Your description sounds a lot like DH, but the feet would be an unusual place for it. Need to see a doctor who knows something about it. richard
  19. You do not need a gluten-free donor. Makes no difference. richard
  20. Any restaurant with a real live chef should be able to help you. It's more expensive, of course. Commander's Palace is great and so was Bella Luna. There are many fine restaurants. The Acme Oyster House is more affordable and at least used to fry everything in corn meal. Be sure and ask. And of course, broiled, boiled or steamed seafood is usually a safe...
  21. I know that most "experts" consider the diet complete bunk. Yes, you'll hear great success story, but when millions of people try something, it'll work for a certain percentage out of sheer coincidence. richard
  22. Broth. richard
  23. I use it regularly. richard
  24. Sounds like you might have it. All first degree relatives should be tested. richard
  25. No dye has wheat. richard
