  1. Always gluten-free. richard
  2. So the fungus-killing medications aren't helping? If not, I'm so sorry. richard
  3. There's a lot here. If there seems to be a good chance you have celiac, you don't need to go to an allergist. Celiac is not an allergy. You need to see a GI, preferably one who has experience with celiac. There are very specific blood tests you need (not Ige allergy tests) and possibly a biopsy of your small bowel. You definitely should NOT stop eating...
  4. Check out Zatarains as well. My parents live in Thibodaux. richard
  5. This is one of my favorites. I use it for fried chicken and onion rings. richard
  6. One problem for the insurance companies is whether or not a person with celiac is sticking to the diet. Folks on these forums generally do, but there are many who don't. I recently met a woman who every few months just can't stand it and eats regular pizza. Her reaction in relatively mild. richard
  7. I've been gluten-free about 6 years now and I have yet to find a brand of turkey that isn't gluten-free -- just as long as it isn't stuffed. richard
  8. My father had DH off and on over the years before he went gluten-free. richard
  9. The VAST majority of hams are gluten-free. Honey Baked obviously is not and you should check any that are commercially honey glazed. Wheat will be the problem and it must be listed. richard
  10. Don't know of a marshmallow that isn't gluten-free. Natural vanilla flavors will be OK. richard
  11. I was fortunate in that mine went away immediately, which is very unusual. I've heard that in some people it can take many, many months. richard
  12. Eyeball cupcakes. Get a gluten-free cupcake (or cake) mix or find a recipe. Cover with white frosting, put a gummy Lifesaver in the middle and then put a dark jellybean in the middle of the Lifesaver. Use red frosting in a squeeze tube to make lines that make the eyeball look bloodshot. These were a hit even with college students. Richard
  13. "A lot of the stuff looked pretty yummy, but the disclaimer worries me. I understand that they are just trying to cover their a$$es, but the way it's written it sounds like someone else came up with a list of gluten-free foods and they just post it on their website to be helpful." Ah, but the "someone else" who came up with the list is Cynthia Kupper of...
  14. Which blood test came back positive? richard
  15. Doesn't look anything like the DH I had. And mine was without question DH. richard
  16. Every cream cheese I know of is gluten-free. Philly most certainly is. richard
  17. ALL fruits and vegetables cause this? Very strange. richard
  18. The only one I know of for certain that uses pancake batter in omelets is IHOP, and they warn you of that on the menu now. You can get an omelet made of fresh (some call them broken) eggs or the egg substitute if you ask. rihard
  19. "Guys are complicated." It's safe to say that most guys think the same about gals. richard
  20. Some of the items on that list are NOT so obvious, at least to the beginner. And in the past I've always found Kroger to be extremely cooperative when you call them. I realize some people don't like calling, but that's the life of a person with celiac. richard
  21. Subway would worry me because of all the bread around, but if you to go their website they have a table that shows allergens, including wheat and gluten. I think all of their dressings but one are gluten-free. richard
  22. Artificial Color -- I've yet to find artificial color with confirmed gluten in the U.S. Caramel Color -- Safe in the U.S. Maltodextrin -- In the U.S., if maltodextrin has wheat it must be clearly listed. This was true even before the allergen law. Maltodextrin almost always comes from corn. Modified Food Starch -- If the MFS comes from wheat it...
  23. Barley doesn't have to be listed because it's not one of the top 8 allergens. richard
  24. I don't. richard
  25. Don't know of a cottage cheese that isn't gluten-free. richard
