  1. I can't remember ever finding a gum that isn't safe, except maybe Aloids (??). I know Wrigley's has always said of their gums are gluten-free. richard
  2. Unless I'm missing something here Vietnamese should still be safe -- as long as their fish sauce doesn't have gluen. Just ask. richard
  3. I have to disagree that gluten has an "obvious" effect on the skin, especially if you're tlaking about mere contact with the skin. The vast majority of people with celiac do not have and have never had DH. I had DH for more than 20 years but contact with gluten does not cause me to break out. richard
  4. How sick was I? In the hospital for 11 days and missed 10 weeks of work because I was so anemic I couldn't even walk by myself. Talking on the phone required more energy than I had. I ran fevers up to 105 and fevers over 100 continued for two months. Night sweats so bad I soaked the bed and chills so bad I got muscle cramps (doctors thought I had non-Hodgkins...
  5. "Most meat is ok, but you do have to make sure that chicken or turkey hasn't had broth added to it to "plump" it up" If broth added to to poultry (or any meat) has anything with gluten in it it must by USDA law be clearly listed. This is a separate requirement from the allergen law and has been in place for years. richard
  6. OK. Both of our children got all the vaccinations (pre-chicken pox, and they both came down with chicken pox) and neither one had any negative reactions of any sort that we could determine. Just like the vast majority of kids. richard
  7. I've yet to find a vanilla ice cream that isn't gluten-free. Do you know of one? richard
  8. Just personal experience, but I had DH for years and years and I don't react even the slightest bit to gluten on the skin. None. And you don't absorb it through your skin. richard
  9. Whole Foods pizza crusts are pretty good but expensive. I do them every now and then. My favorite? Take a corn tortilla, bake it until slightly crispy, brush it with olive oil, add pizza sauce and then top with whatever else. Then back into the oven until everything's melted and yummy. VERY inexpensive and not half bad. Also quick. richard
  10. Man, after seeing the past several dozen posts here, I'm glad I haven't been involved. And I won't be after this richard
  11. I don't pretend to have a solution and I know that Moore salnts everything toward his view. He admits that. A fair part of our money used for medical reasons is wasted on insurance companies and bureaucracy. I think it's bad for health care. As somebody mentioned in an earlier message, it's a HUGE business and dismantling it might cost jobs, but some of...
  12. The only toothpaste I have EVER heard might have gluten is Sensodyne. As far as I know, everything else is gluten-free. richard
  13. I don't think it's possible to be gluten-free and work in a bakery. Contamination everywhere. richard
  14. With any processed product there's always a chance of CC, even with the best companies. If you really want it, you might buy another container and try it to see what happens. Or see if French's or Kraft has something comparable. richard
  15. I cannot point you to a link, but most discussions I've read in the past seem to agree that babies are not born with active celiac. Even if they are exposed to gluten early, it takes time to build up the anitbody response. I do know hat the antibody test is not considered accurate until about age 2. richard
  16. If your commander doesn't know about the celiac, you must tell him. I knew a guy from another list who was diagnosed near the end of his retirement. He was overseas, not even in a battle zone (I think it was S. Korea), and he still had a hard time struggling through that last couple of years. richard
  17. Of the three, shampoo is the most likely to have gluten. The only toothpaste I've ever heard having gluten is Sensodyne, and I'm not sure that's really true. I don't know of any soaps with gluten. richard
  18. I ate like a pig immediately after I went gluten-free. It's a common reaction. richard
  19. Smoked pork BBQ. richard
  20. Hillshire Farm. Oscar Meyer will clearly list any gluten. richard
  21. Canola oil does not have gluten. richard
  22. If you're asking whether MSG is gluten-free, it is. richard
  23. Sounds like you have a doctor who's on top of it. Some people are Iga deficient, which means, as your doctor says, your Iga test is useless. I'm not sure why this happens, but you can certainly still have celiac. I'd say you already have the best proof -- you feel better. Inconclusive results added to feeling better seems like a diagnosis to me. richard
  24. The vast majority of pasta sauces are gluten-free. Flavored rices are another matter. Many are gluten-free, but you definitely have to check them. richard
  25. I guess i would just to make real sure, but in reality a few days shouldn't make much of a difference. richard
