  1. I live in Roanoke and I'm virtually certain there's no group in Lynchburg. The closest to Altavista that I know of is Charlottesville at U.Va. There's also no group in Roanoke. Kroger might have a few gluten-free foods, but not many. Roanoke and Charlottesville both have stores that sell gluten-free foods but if Lynchburg does, I don't know where it is...
  2. Generally it should longer and it should be more than your doctor told you, but you also has been off gluten for just two weeks. If you have villi damage from celiac, I doubt it healed completely in that time. richard
  3. Remember that packages are not required to have allergen "lists," they are simply required to clearly list the allergen in some manner. So if an ice cream has milk and tree nuts, for instance, it does NOT have to say "Contains: milk, tree nuts." Listing the milk and nuts in the ingredients is sufficient to satisfy the law. If anybody is just looking for the...
  4. First, I'm not a doctor. And I'm not 100 percent sure what the doctor is saying. But if he's saying that one out of seven biopsy samples was positive for celiac, to me that means your child has celiac. You take multiple samples (congrats to the doctor for doing that) because celiac damage can be patchy. Part of your small bowel can look perfectly fine while...
  5. I'm curious which posts got deleted. Any idea why? richard
  6. I'm not real knowledgeable, but one place you can register your site name is godaddy.com. richard
  7. All right, now we've got an ED thread for the guys and a lack of sex drive thread for the women!!! I'm not making fun of either, believe me. I never have had ED but when I was sick from the undiagnosed celiac disease I certainly had little interest in sex. While I've seen no research that shows celiac disease linked to ED, it would seem common sense...
  8. Italy is perhaps the most celiac friendly country in the world. I don't know all the details, but everything is labeled and restaurants know what it is. I assume your daughter is marrying somebody from Italy? richard

    ARCHIVED Dh

If it's truly DH, the only two things that truly, truly help are dapsone and the gluten-free diet. I don't know if neosporin is gluten-free, but as long as he washes his hands well I wouldn't worry about it. richard
  10. I know that at first I was eating enormous amounts of food. But even when that slowed I continued to gain. The only answer for me -- and really the only answer for most people -- is that I had to eat less (I still ate almost anything I wanted, but I ate much less of the empty calorie stuff) and I had to exercise more. There's no magic pill, cream or machine...
  11. The bodily fluids thing has been discussed before and I believe the consensus was not to worry. But perhaps some ladies here can give a recap. You do not have to worry about what the animals on your table ate before they became dinner. I'm not sure if you need to wear a mask feeding ypour dog, but you definitely need to wash your hands afterward. ...
  12. And when you do get into cereals and others things that might have gluten, you should just go ahead and feed her gluten. Although the odds she will have celiac are much stronger because you have it, they still favor her not having it. richard
  13. I'm not aware of any that DO have gluten. Last time I checked, Orbit was gluten-free. richard
  14. Some people have contact allergy to iodine that has nothing to do with celiac. If you have that, going gluten-free will not change it. In addition, iodine can sometimes trigger DH outbreaks, especially when ingested (idoized salt, seafoods) and if you haven't gone gluten-free or have gone gluten-free recently. Eventually when you've been gluten-free long...
  15. Allergens do not have to be listed at restaurants, although a number do list them. That said, one should always be cautious around fondue -- many use flour as part of the recipe. richard
  16. No matter where maltodextrin is made, if it's in a food or drink sold in the U.S., it MUST list wheat if that's what it's made from. That was a law even before the allergen law took effect. If the maltodextrin doesn't clearly indicate wheat, it's not made from wheat. As far as I know this law does not apply to non-food or non-drink items. richard
  17. I can't comment on whether or not birth control pills can trigger celiac or intolerance, but I can say (based on research I've seen AND the number of folks on various boards who have been diagnosed at that age) that late teens/early 20s is a common age for people to either experience their first symptoms or to relapse after sort of going into remission at...
  18. I would go ahead and get tested for DH, but believe me psoriasis is completely unpredictable. The stuff I got got for my scalp has done little good, while the psoriasis on other parts has reacted in different ways. Some has disappeared completely, some has gotten better but is not gone, and some hasn't improved at all. BTW, I didn't have psoriasis at all...
  19. "And ketchup is also glutenous." McDonald's ketchup (Heinz last time I looked) is without question gluten-free. I can't name a ketchup that has gluten. richard
  20. As for Hershey's miniatures, the "problem" is that one kind, the one with cripsies in it, is not gluten-free and it's in the bag with the rest. The others are in fact gluten-free, at least the last time I looked. It's your choice as to whether or not to eat them. richard
  21. Sounds like psoriasis. richard
  22. ALL Yoplaits are gluten-free as long as you don't add the granola that comes separate with a few. Even the ones that would seem to be bad, like Key Lime Pie, are gluten-free. There is NO pie in them. I'm not going to tell you to eat Dannon, but their statement is a standard CYA. Basically, alcohol is used to "extract" flavors. Even if the alcohol did have...
  23. First let me be clear -- becauase of Pfizer's response, nobody should take Xanax. I called and eventually talked to as pharmacist, who told me Xanax has gluten, which "COULD" include wheat, rye or barley. I asked which ingredient contains the gluten and she couldn't tell me. I asked if perhaps the gluten warning was referring to the corn starch. She couldn...
  24. Zoloft is anti-depression but also ani-anxiety. However, I realize now you probably want something more like Ativan. Generic is lorazepam. richard
