  1. Wahoo, are you a U.Va. fan? If you're having celiac-like symptoms you should be tested again. Many folks carry the celiac gene and never develop celiac, while others carry it for years and then develop celiac because of some unknown trigger (pregnancy, severe illness, severe stress, and so on). So you can test negative and still develop celiac later. ...
  2. While it's true that Amy's is obviously looking to sell some things to the gluten-free market, the company makes the vast majority of its money from "regular" folks who can eat gluten. I would guess that at this point it's not worth the expense to them to build a dedicated facility. Just a guess. richard
  3. First, this is NOT a criticism of the original poster. I am NOT saying this shouldn't have been posted. I agree with another poster that the blood type diet is bunk. If you do a google search you can find many articles debunking it. It's not based at all on any provable science. You will also find testimonials from happy people who feel much better...
  4. In the U.S. the mustard definitely does NOT have gluten. richard
  5. You're right. I edited it. Thanks. richard
  6. I see no effort here to kill off anecdotal evidence or personal experience. I DO see an effort to ask people not to post something that is easily checkable until you've checked it yourself. Srokie was not offering anecdotal evidence; she was presenting erroneous information and claiming it was correct because somebody told her it was correct. The KC and...
  7. A colonoscopy cannot diagnose celiac. The damage is in the small bowel. richard
  8. I hope that somebody who srokie is still talking to has passed along how wrong her friend was about Kimberly-Clark. The friend needs to quit passing wrong info out and srokie can relax about using their toilet paper. Srokie supposedly isn't reading our messages any more, but she returns to show us up with info about breathing in loose gluten. She claims...
  9. Gluten-free list from Emeril's web site. Open Original Shared Link Kicked Up French Honey Mustard Caesar Dressing Balsamic Vinaigrette Blush Wine Vinaigrette Dijon Vinaigrette Italian Vinaigrette House Herb Vinaigrette Dressing Orange Herb w/Poppy Seed Basting Sauce and Marinade Herbed Lemon Pepper Marinade Lemon Rosemary & Garlic Marinade...
  10. This has been around for awhile but I personally don't believe it and wouldn't drink those beers (of course I became beer snob years ago and quit drinking those beers anyway). Allegedly some of those mass-produced beers have indeed been tested for gluten and and no measureable gluten was found, but I can't tell you which ones. The gluten content of non-wheat...
  11. Took ten months for my joint aches rto go away completely. richard
  12. Even if it does have "flavoring," all you have to do is read the ingredients to see if it's gluten-free. The USDA requires that ANY grain added to meat be clearly listed. richard
  13. I agree it's a legend. An animal science researcher and a large animal vet researcher at the college where I work have told me not to be concerned. Plus, most every person with celiac I know eats meat without checking the source of feed and does fine. And finally, this is not something that any celiac expert or organization tells us to watch for. The gluten...
  14. Has anybody called Kraft and asked specifically about Planter's nuts and Crystal Light? I know that some folks who thought both might indeed have wheat and who don't trust Kraft's gluten-free statement were saying they were going to check. richard
  15. Hershey changed their policy several months ago. Rye and oats are not going to be hidden anywhere, even in natural flavors. I've never heard of that happening. Last time I checked, Hershey also said that any barley would be in malt and that malt would be listed. I can't say if that's changed, but most often barley is indeed "hidden" in malt. richard
  16. Nope, no sticky buns. And the corn starch dusting is on the inside of the wrapper. richard
  17. Here's the word on cottonelle, which is one of the brands specifically named in the original post. I think the wheat flour in K-C toilet paper idea is pretty well debunked. Dear Richard, Thanks for your e-mail about KLEENEX
  18. McCormick will clearly list any gluten so with them all you do is read the ingredients. If there are no ingredients, that means the only thing in there is the listed spice or herb. I think Frontier has a gluten-free list. I know there are others. Based on my experience and posts over 5 years, pure spices are pretty much without exception gluten-free. The...
  19. I had forgotten that doctor-hating thread. CeliacMe was just too angry to be rational. I assume that's why she was banned. richard
  20. Severe problems with dapsone are uncommon and will be caught quickly and reversed if you have the regular blood tests, especially when you start up. I took it for more than 20 years. At the very first my white blood cell count went crazy but was fine after we dropped the dosage. You whouldn't be taking it for more than several months, probably a year at the...
  21. I'm virtually positive the 2 percent thing isn't true. Foreign products have to meet the exact same standards as domestic. McDonalds is not even required by the allergen law to list the top 8 allergens because it's a restaurant. In fact, no law requires them to list allergens at all. Still, they decided to list it after the law came out and then they had...
  22. I'm no expert on pregnancy, but my wife didn't have morning sickness for either child. She couldn't stand the smell of bacon cooking, though. richard
  23. Cellulose is commonly used to prevent clumping, not wheat flour. Can you imagine how gross the cheese would taste if restaurants sprinkled flour on the cheese? And how it would clump up when it came in contact with moisture? richard
  24. "Food labelling is apparently tricky business, to be kind about it, and your suggestion that a company might accept paying a fine rather than list an ingredient would not surprise me one bit." The problem for me is that it makes no sense whatsoever from a money-making perspective -- and that's what Kraft exists for, to make money. The profits they make...
  25. Thank you, Deb. We now know that the information that all Kimberly Clark toilet paper has wheat flour is wrong. Either that or KC is lying. richard
