  1. Injectable vaccines and medications, as well as IV fluids, do not contain gluten. I've heard this from a celiac doctor the pharmacist who maintains glutenfreedrugs.com. In five years I've never heard of anybody finding an injectable with gluten. richard
  2. I don't know about anybody else here but my primary doctor is so busy he doesn't need to misdiagnose me to make more money. He's not even taking new patients because he simply doesn't have the time. richard
  3. If you talk to OG or a manager as they suggest they do have a few menu items that are gluten-free or that they can make gluten-free. I've actually seen these items listed but don't remember what they are. No matter where you go it's essential to talk to somebody in charge. richard
  4. I doin't have them that often, either, but I usually make them as well. If you have a Whole Foods nearby their stuff is made in gluten-free facility. Kinnikinnick (order directly online) also makes some good things. richard
  5. If doctors and pharmaceutical companies are so completely corrupt, how come I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition that requires nothing more than avoiding gluten? No medications, no surgery. And going gluten-free took me from near death back to good health? I wish you good luck in your quest and I hope you are cured, but I have my doubts. And I...
  6. Caramel coloring just isn't a gluten concern. If you have other allergies that's another matter. richard
  7. Considering there's something in the order of 100,000 drugs on the market, there's no list anywhere that's complete. You need to call the manufacturer. And if you get the line that the drug is formulated not to have gluten but they can't guarantee the suppliers, you can relax. It's gluten-free. richard
  8. Bacon is almost universally gluten-free. There's a regional bacon in California that has soy sauce with wheat and the stuff that McDonalds calls bacon has wheat starch. I don't know of any others that have gluten. I've also never found smoke flavoring that has gluten, especially when the flavoring really is caused by smoke. richard
  9. One is a sweetener and the other is used for aroma. You can google them and find out more. They're gluten-free. richard
  10. Soy sauce is really very easy. If it has wheat, it will clearly say so. If it doesn't list it, it's gluten-free. richard
  11. Robyn Ryberg's is excellent because it uses simple, easy to find ingredients and everything I've tried has tasted great. And she's a wonderful person. The book's inexpensive and well worth it. richard
  12. Barley malt does make a difference in the taste and these companies have done tests showing folks prefer the product with the barley malt. I know from experience that beer with barley malt just flat out has a fuller, more satisfying flavor than beers with other malts. I do like a couple of gluten-free beers, but it's still not the same to me. I also have...
  13. If Commander's Palace has reopened the food is incredible and they know about gluten. It was heavily damaged by the hurricane, though. richard
  14. Sorry you have to go to work, although I realize it's necessary sometimes. I just hate it when sick folks come in and spread things around. richard
  15. The general consensus is that you definitely go ahead and feed your child as you would if you didn't have celiac. Tests definitely are not reliable before two years and maybe longer, I'm not sure. However, you also definitely should do the test, even if there are no symptoms. richard
  16. As with any ham, all you need do is read the ingredients on the Costco ham. If there's gluten it will be from wheat and MUST be listed. richard
  17. I didn't mean to make anybody mad, but the excerpt quoted in the post made it sound like all these grains might be a threat to people with celiac. I wanted to make it clear that since this article was written it has been determined that ALL of these grains are perfectly safe. People with celiac eat all of them. richard
  18. Ummm, I'm pretty certain the boneless wings are coated with wheat flour. Unless they've changed the menu. The regular wings are OK but there are two sauces with soy sauce. richard
  19. The article quoted about canola and other grains is about a decade old and since then it has been found that ALL of the grains named are safe for people with celiac. Buckwheat, amaranth, quinoa, and rape were all examined and declared completely safe for celiacs about five years ago. REPEAT, this information is OLD and no longer applies. All celiac associations...
  20. ANYTHING injected is safe from a gluten standpoint. No need to even ask. richard
  21. I think jerseyangel hit it on the head. After being diagnosed and going gluten-free I suddenly started getting an underarm rash from a deodorant I had always used. I also developed psoriasis, another autoimmune condition. I also think -- although I have no scientific evidence and most certainly am not a doctor or an expert -- that some folks develop more...
  22. Stay away from oatmeal in the U.S. It's contaminated, and even if it's pure, some celiacs can't tolerate it. richard
  23. I know it's difficult, but waiting for your daughter is NOT going to do her any permanent damage. And waiting for yourself won't so any more damage. In most cases, even adult damage can be reversed. Mine was and I was so sick I was in the hospital for 11 days and missed 10 weeks of work. Your pediatrician certainly will NOT know how to do a skin biopsy...
  24. I've been gluten-free for more than 5 years (U.S.) and have never ever found caramel color with gluten. Several folks who have been involved in this for many years (Ann Whelan is one) have looked and looked and can't find caramel color with gluten. This is one of those things that certainly CAN be made with wheat, but it isn't. And in the U.S. now, the wheat...
  25. MOST people don't react right away. In fact there's some belief that those who do react quickly might also be at least somewhat allergic. richard
