  1. All vanilla would appear to be gluten-free. Distilled alcohol is gluten-free, and even it werent, the amount used in extract is so small, you couldn't even measure it. Vanilla being a problem is another one of those celiac urban myths. richard
  2. McCormick (and others folks) is NOT required to list corn (not a top 8 allergen). They must list the others. richard
  3. "Does anyone have a list of drugs containing gluten? I know many do." In fact, virtually all medications do NOT have gluten. I can't name a single one that definitely does. Many companies will say they don't "add" gluten but they can't guarantee what their suppliers send. This is just a CYA statement and means the medication is gluten-free. Also. look...
  4. Dr. Mercola's website is has some good information but is also full of speculation and his unproven opinions. There is without question good information there, but he often takes that info and then makes huge jumps in logic. The information he has about pigs is pretty much along the lines of, "A pig can carry this disease or bacteria so in my opinion you...
  5. Are you talking about the stuff in a can or the actual corned beef that you cook? All the ones that you cook that I've seen have been gluten-free. And it tastes a lot better. Read the ingredients. richard
  6. It seems that with celiac anything is possible. My ftaher was not anemic and yet his blood tests were positive. richard
  7. I know it's hard not to feel hurt, but I don't think this is one I'd make a stand over. Tryt to drop it and have a good family gathering. richard
  8. There is so much misinformation and outright lies in these links about pork it isn't funny. Eat pork or don't eat pork, but I wouldn't base my decision on the information in these links. As for gluten, gluten does NOT get into the flesh of animals. That's why no one, not even the ultra-paranoid CSA, considers plain meat a gluten threat. Raw plain meat...
  9. Citric acid is one of those things they used to tell you to watch out for, but as it turns out it's always gluten-free. This is NOT something to worry about. richard
  10. The length of time for results depends on the lab but it shouldn't take too long. Good luck. richard
  11. Benefiber might not be required to list the source. I don't know. richard
  12. I also had DH. Touching bread or something with gluten doesn't cause any reaction at all for me. richard

    ARCHIVED Eat Turkey

Eating turkey that's been stuffed is without question a bad idea. I am not a doctor but I know two doctors on the delphi forum and neither would consider eating a stuffed turkey. My primary doctor has celiac and he wouldn't eat it, either. And I'm certain that every single celiac organization would advise against it. Stuffing just doesn't need to be cooked...
  14. To find gluten-free turkey all you have to do is read the ingredients. USDA law REQUIRES that anything that adds nutrition -- which includes all grains -- be clearly listed. This is true for any plain raw meat. I've never found a turkey that has gluten unless it was stuffed. richard
  15. I've seen a couple of products with maltodextrin made from wheat but in the U.S. that has to be clearly marked. richard
  16. Sweet potatoes are gluten-free. Green beans. Cranberry sauce (not sure a kid would liker it though). richard

    ARCHIVED Wendy's

Wendy's corporate office says the chili is NOT made with leftover hamburgers. Leftover hamburgers go in the trash. richard Perhaps the Wendy's chicken once had soy sauce, but this is what it has now: Ultimate Grill Fillet Boneless, Skinless, Chicken Breast Fillets With Rib Meat Containing up to 24% of a Solution Of Water, Seasoning (salt, flavor...
  18. As with any other plain raw meat.ll you have to do is read the ingredients. The USDA requires that anything that adds nutritional value be clearly listed. As confirmed by the USDA, this includes ANY grain. Butterball is definitely gluten-free. I've never seen a plain, unstuffed turkey that has gluten. richard
  19. Any plain raw meat product is required to list a grain if it's added in. After more than 5 years, I've still never personally seen a plain raw meat product that has gluten added. I've heard there was some beef at Walmart, but, as required, it was clearly marked. richard
  20. Kraft clearly lists any gluten. Just read the ingredients. richard
  21. Lance Armstrong's didn't start as brain cancer but it did spread to his brain. richard
  22. Virtually every sausage I've ever checked has been gluten-free, except beer brats. Hillshire Farm, Jimmy Dean, Kroger, Johnsonville. I use the Johnsonville andouille for red beans and rice because it's easy to find here. johnsonville.com also has a long list of gluten-free products under the FAQs. richard
  23. I didn't remember the Hellman's post. Getting old. However, every list I've seen has made occasional mistakes. richard
  24. All the corned beef I've ever checked out at the market has been gluten-free, even the spice packet. But absolutely do talk to folks at the restaurant. richard
  25. "I have not heard of gluten guard until recently. I have concerns about their accuracy." I'm also not familiar with gluten guard, but do you have a specific reason for being concerned about their accuracy? Like, do you know of somebody who's found problems? richard
