  1. Kraft does not have a gluten-free list because the ingredients will tell you whether a product has wheat, rye, or barley. To me, this is better than a list because anything on a list can change at any time. I wish every company would do this. richard
  2. If you hve celiac, you haven't been gluten-free long enough to heal. Some people continue with some symptoms for months and months. The things that have improved indicate the gluten-free diet is having a positive effect. Your doctor is giving you the best advice. Your blood tests were positive and false positives for celiac are very rare. You most likely...
  3. Ravenwoodglass, I have no idea what it would be. I don't think oat hulls are a standard source of cellulose in food. richard
  4. Fiddle-Faddle, I did not send you a harrassing pm. I quite properly took a personal discussion private instead of continuing it in public, andf I sent just one message. That was the mature and right thing to do. I'm sorry you felt you couldn't answer privately and ask me not to pm you instead of publicly accusing me of harrassing you. I would send this...
  5. I'm sorry if you've been glutened by store cheese, but cellulose is not the culprit. It simply does not have gluten. richard
  6. Please research for evidence that wheat is actually used to make cellulose for food before you post something like this that needlessly makes people doubt a harmless ingredient. While dozens of articles do pop up, the VAST majority are simply articles where the words "wheat" and "cellulose" appear together or where somebody is talking about cellulose in wheat...
  7. So gluten doesn't have to be listed in Canada? I asked abou the CYA because another poster said that's what she got from the company. richard
  8. I'd agree there's no question you have celiac. richard
  9. No matter what they say, their milk is gluten-free. However I wouldn't drink just because of their attitude. richard
  10. I'm curious if Black Diamond said their cheese does have gluten, or was it just the CYA, "we won't guarantee." I ask because I just looked at their web site and didn't find a cheese with gluten in the ingredients. And the shredded cheeses use cellulose for anti-caking. richard
  11. "However, it seems obvious that a HUGE percentage of celiacs have other food allergies/issues as well." Obvious based on what? Remember that folks who frequent celiac forums are not representative of the general celiac population. Most have more physical problems than the average person with celiac and many are more sensitive to gluten than average. The...
  12. "Maybe it's just me...but I really do believe that people should have a choice as to what they are being injected with. If you have bad reactions to a vaccine, you shouldn't be forced to submit to more. JMO" You'll get no argument from me on this. As for the hospital, I can't understand why they would require a chicken pox vaccine. My wife's employer...
  13. "They covered gluten elimination strictly enough, but made absolutely NO accomodations whatsoever for those of us with accompanying allergies like dairy, soy, eggs, etc. I eagerly went through the buffet line innocently asking the servers questions about what was in everything, since there were no signs with ingredients or anything. Can you believe it?" ...
  14. I have yet to find a shredded cheese that actually had gluten. Every cheese I've checked uses cellulose to prevent clumping. richard
  15. The "stomach flu," which isn't actually influenza, sometimes includes a slight fever but often doesn't. I know some people throw up after ingesting gluten, but I'd say the percentage is very tiny. It is not a common symptom of gluten ingestion. The "real" flu always includes a fever, body aches, and respiratory symptoms but not vomiting. richard
  16. Oscar Meyer is a Kraft company, which means any gluten will be clearly listed. All Buddig, Hillshire Farm and Boar's Head meats are gluten-free. richard
  17. "...but I personally know of DOZENS who have had adverse reactions to the flu shot, and they all say htat they will not get it any more." I'm just baffled that you would know DOZENS of people who have had adverse reactions. I personally don't know of a single person (I'm sure I do know somebody but I don't quiz people about whether they get flu shots and...
  18. Canada and the U.S. are VERY different on this subject. richard
  19. Italy is possibly the most celiac aware country in the world. richard
  20. "I have never met anybody who had such a severe case of flu that they were hospitalized." All you have to do is visit a hospital during flu season; you'll see them. Generally it's the respiratory problems caused by the flu that put people in the hospital, not the fever and achiness.
  21. Total medical expenses must be more than 7.5 percent of your gross to claim anything at all. richard
  22. The cereals are called Rice Crunch Ems and Corn Crunch Ems. Generally found at health food stores but sometimes at regular grocery stores. richard
  23. In 5 years I have yet to come across a candy cane with gluten. Of course that does not guarantee every candy cane in the world is gluten-free, but it is likely to be. richard
