  1. Zoloft is gluten-free. For something that works more quickly, Ativan. richard
  2. Cynthia Rudert is a top celiac doc. If nolt her, you'd want to see a GI. richard
  3. I took dapsone for more than 20 years for DH and mine disappeared immediately after going gluten-free. It usually takes months but honestly I never took another dapsone after going gluten-free. richard
  4. If the company rep told you that both definitely have gluten, I would not take them. But I would also call back and double check. Note carefully exactly what the rep says. I'd be interested to know exactly where the gluten is. The binders in Xanax are cellulose and corn starch, both of which are gluten-free. richard
  5. "CYA statements would not be needed if there was no chance that items were not gluten-free, the companies would just say yes they are." In a perfect world you'd be right, but this isn't a perfect world. Pharmaceutical companies get sued so much that many won't guarantee anybody anything at all. And the stark reality is that almost NO company of any kind...
  6. NIH and all the celiac experts I know say that ALL first-degree relatives absolutely should be tested. This includes your brothers and sisters and parents. Your youngest is most definitely too young for an accurate celiac test, but the other two should be old enough (the 2 year old is border line). All of my first degrees were tested and my 70-year-old...
  7. First, did Pfizer say the medication definitely had gluten, or did they say they wouldn't guarantee it? There's a HUGE difference. Every Xanax product I've ever seen or checked has been gluten-free. Second, I disagree that gluten is common in medications. In five years I've almost NEVER found a medication with gluten. It is in fact fairly common for a...

    ARCHIVED Outback

Ever since I've seen a gluten-free menu for Outback - at least four years now - it has ALWAYS said not to have the seasoning for the veggies. Meat seasoning is gluten-free, but not the veggies. This is not new. It's always been this way. richard

    ARCHIVED Clueless

Applebees is hopeless when it comes to gluten-free. Tell your husband to go with friends every now and then, but you should avoid it. PS - I agree with you. I never liked the place. You're paying cooks to heat up frozen stuff for the most part. You could eat freshly made food for the same price. richard
  10. Are you sure you didn't just have a headache unrelated to gluten? richard
  11. Mental confusion and and fatigue are common symptoms of celiac. And most people do NOT clear immediately. I missed 10 weeks of work and didn't feel completely "normal" for about 10 months. People with celiac have to avoid not just wheat, but also barley, rye, and, usually, oats. A gin and tonic should be fine but I can't tell you about gluten-free beer...
  12. Or Zollman's Pavilion!! I remember yes, I COULD remember) looking back one time and seeing that field littered with passed out people. Seemed funny at the time. My 30th reunion is in May and they're having a party at Zollman's. richard
  13. Back in the ancient days when I was in college, each year each of the four classes sponsored a grain alcohol punch party. At that time we could drink beer at age 18 but in Virginia you still couldn't have liquor until age 21. Didn't seem to matter; we still had these parties fueled by this 190 proof paint peeler called Everclear (which you can't get in Virginia...
  14. All Smirnoff liqours are gluten-free. Even if you don't believe that distilling makes liqours OK, Smirnoff is corn based. The comment about not guaranteeing the flavors is the sound of yet another company going to a CYA statement. As already posted, Smirnoff Ice is gluten-free in Canada but not in the U.S. It's my understanding that Smirnoff Ice in the...
  15. I'm absolutely not telling people they can lick envelopes -- but every time anybody has checked companies that make envelopes, the glue does NOT contain wheat. To me, this is essentially a celiac urban legend. Again, though, you should handle this however you prefer. richard
  16. This is not one I'd worry about. richard
  17. Not a lot of nutrition, but I love corn nuts. richard
  18. gluten-free. richard
  19. Although I can't address your specific meds, you are in much more danger from hospital food than from meds. richard
  20. First, I am not a doctor or a medical person. I don't know which of your blood tests were positive, but celiac blood tests are rarely false positive. There's a good chance you have celiac. Normally you would indeed stay on gluten until the biopsy but the fact that you're pregnant complicates things. Untreated celiac affects your ability to absorb nutrients...
  21. Add salt and pepper with the milk. And spray the pan with Pam, even a non-stick pan. richard
  22. I'm virtually certain that all Pop Secret is gluten-free. Check the ingredients. If it doesn't have wheat, it'll be gluten-free. I've never found a yeast that has gluten, except perhaps brewer's yeast. richard

    ARCHIVED Italy

I can't make any specific suggestions, but Italy is possibly the MOST celiac friendly nation in the world. You will not have any problem at all eating there. Food is labeled gluten-free and restaurants know about gluten-free. richard
  24. Cotton candy is spun sugar and coloring, which I've never found to have gluten. richard
  25. They don't have honey mustard, it's mustard vinaigrette. richard
