  1. rtucker2000, How long ago was the response that listed the gluten-free items? I know that they once had this list, but later withdrew it and started givng the first repsonse in this thread. richard
  2. As for the corn pancakes, I'd bet that if you went to an IHOP and asked the manager to let you see the ingredients, you could find out what's in them. The batter or at least the corn mix probably comes pre-made. richard
  3. There are a few items made on dedicated lines, although I can't remember which ones other than the Stax. They are on their own lines and no flavor has gluten. richard
  4. The sour cream at Outback is most definitely gluten-free. Probably CC, which is possible whenever you eat out. The honey butter is also gluten-free. There are no warnings on the menu to avoid it. richard .
  5. The menu VERY clearly says that there is pancake batter in the omelets. It's there right under the word "Omelets." richard
  6. The ingredients look OK although I'd still call the company. The primary lesson in the post is, however, do not just start taking or eating something without at least reading the ingredients. And if you're not sure once you're read the ingredients, call the company. richard

  8. I think we need to see what limits they set. 20 ppm, if that's what they set, is extremely low. 200 wouldn't be as good, of course. However, I have serious doubts that the things that are now generally safe will suddenly start adding small amounts of gluten. Folks in Europe with celiac have been living with Codex for years now and they generally have a...
  9. Caramel color is safe in the U.S. No question. If vinegar is made from wheat in the U.S. it must now be listed. Vinegar made from wheat is exceedingly rare, and it's distilled anyway and therefor is considered safe. I've absolutely never seen rye hidden. You must assume malt is made from barley, although in rare cases it's made from something else...
  10. Bacon is almost without exception gluten-free. The McDonald's "bacon" isn't real bacon as far as I'm concerned -- wheat starch in it. There's one other bacon -- Farmer John's maybe? -- I've heard of that has soy sauce in it, but it's not a national brand. I don't know about MSG since that's not a problem for me. I can respect anybody who makes a personal...
  11. I don't know how Crohn's can affect celiac healing, but true refractory sprue is very rare. Usually the patient is still eating gluten either on purpose or by mistake, or the patient also has bacterial overgrowth. I didn't know there was a Mayo Clinic in Fla. richard
  12. Fruit and veggie stickers do not contain gluten. richard
  13. This post is wrong. This is from Coke 12 days ago. The last part that talks about Codex is simply Coke's CYA for a few drinks that have in ingredients made in plants where gluten might be present. It's another way of saying we can't absolutely guarantee no CC. But the chance is very, very small. It's much more dangerous to eat at a restaurant. We...
  14. Too paranoid. You have to let your child have a life. richard
  15. Our daughter flew when she was 12. You pay a little extra and they have an attendant with the child at all times -- at least back then. richard
  16. Although I can't speak to CC on any specific ice cream, the fact is that most flavors of virtually every brand of ice cream are gluten-free, excluding, of course, obvious things like cookies and cream. If the ice cream has wheat the wheat has to be listed, and if it has barley, you'll almost always find it listed as malt or malt flavoring. As to the original...
  17. If it was pancit, this is a dish that CAN be made gluten-free and is just wonderful. But one of the standard ingredients is Chinese sausage, which always has soy sauce in it. The Taco Bell item you ate is most definitely NOT gluten-free. Taco Bell should be completely avoided by anybody with celiac. richard
  18. You can have most flavors of Dippin Dots. The big turkey legs are usually OK. Same with popcorn, cotton candy (always OK as far as I know), many ice creams, candy apples, and many drinks. richard
  19. All raw and frozen meat MUST by law clearly list any added grain. This is a USDA rule that precedes the allergen law and is even more strict. If you're buying any meat -- poultry, beef, lamb, pork, fish and so on -- all you have to do is read the ingredients. The Kroger wings are OK. richard
  20. This is great. We have an annual pass to BGW. Love Apollo's Chariot, Loch Ness, and Alpengiest. richard
  21. I have gas, a Weber charcoal, and a cheap bullet smoker.I'd like to get a better smoke, but I still did 20 pounds of barbecue in it Friday using natural charcoal and apple wood. richard
  22. Looks like they're new products. Ingredients look fine but that's not any sort of a guarantee from me. richard
  23. Open Original Shared Link Look here for a picture of a chimney and how to use it. You can find them in hardware stores and probably at plces like WalMart. Without the chimney, you'd still need lighter fluid. richard
  24. I don't know about the 365 stuff but ANY natural or lump charcoal is going to be gluten-free. As for lighting lump charcoal without lighter fluid or starter, that's the purpose of the chimney. I haven't used chemicals or starter on my charcoal in years. richard

    ARCHIVED Dh?

I'd agree it doesn't look or sound like DH. Beyond that I don't know. richard
