  1. Hershey has been having problems with inconsistent answers. But here's what Andrea Levario, Executive Director of the American Celiac Disease Alliance found out. The Supervisor for Customer Relations returned the call. After discussing the responses some individuals had received, she kindly responded to my questions to put the record straight. ...
  2. In more than 5 years I've never found an anti-caking agent with gluten. It's most often cellulose and occasionally a corn or tapioca starch. richard
  3. The newer lists are more accurate. I would trust Danna. Maltodextrin almost never has wheat and when it does it must say so (in the U.S.). I don't know of anybody who has ever found caramel color with gluten, and more if not all experts consider it universally gluten-free. I've never found a vanilla with gluten. The alcohol used to extract it is distilled...
  4. I'm no expert on pregnancy, but for a lot of women the nausea and inability to stand certain foods pass. If you're eating eggs can you carry (and eat) hardboiled eggs. Good protein and somewhat filling. richard
  5. Hydrolized soy and corn proteins absolutely do not have wheat, rye or barley. They have corn or soy. The problem with soy sauce is wheat and when there's wheat it's VERY clearly listed since it's usually the second ingredient. If it doesn't say wheat, it's safe. richard
  6. Any plain wild rice will be gluten-free, but, for instance, Uncle Ben's flavoring packet for its wild rice has wheat in it. So you have to watch what it is you're eating. richard
  7. I saw it. Great!!! They talked about a wheat or gluten allergy, but in his restaurant all you'd have to worry about is wheat. And the book there has every one of the 8 top allergens in each dish. AND the staff is definitely aware of CC. richard
  8. A-1 is a Kraft product and if it has gluten, Kraft will very clearly list it. All you have to do is read the ingredients. richard
  9. "Lovegrov, aka Richard. For always jumping in with a definitive answer on ingredients. I have appreciated your posts so much." Thank you, although I can't claim to always be definitive. Sometimes all I can do is give my opinion. As you've been gluten-free longer and you stay on lists the questions get repetitive and some of the the answers seemingly...
  10. What in the heck is gluten guard??????? Hellmans is without question gluten-free. In fact, in 5 years I've nver found a mayo that has gluten. richard
  11. Caramel coloring is gluten-free. Seriously, the Kahlua people are not lying -- it's gluten-free, even with the caramel coloring. Sodas with caramel coloring are gluten-free. And if a gravy packet specifically says gluten-free, it's gluten-free. They're not going to label it gluten-free when it's not. richard
  12. The vanilla ready to drink does indeed clearly list barley. The powder does not. richard
  13. I doubt that the shampoo is causing your hair to fall out unless, maybe, you are also allergic to wheat. And not all shampoo has gluten. richard
  14. Not sure how to help. You obviously have problems other than gluten. Could the skin thing be psoriasis? richard
  15. But I assume not a gluten reaction? richard
  16. Just in case it goes that way, I propose that we try to avoid turning this thread into a flu versus anti-flu shot or immunization versus anti-immunization thread. At this point, according to the CDC, a few flu vaccines -- although not all -- continue to contain mercury (thimerosal). No other vaccines currently have mercury, including ALL of the childhood...
  17. Annatto is gluten-free. Without question. I suspect your info came from CSA/USA, which for years put out bad information about ingredients based solely on guesses and suspicions. Read this part, "it is the processing of the seed into a colorant that causes concern as it appears to use alcohol in the process. There is also suspicion that caramel color may...
  18. I have read that the reason a person with DH can take months to get over it is because of IGA deposits under the skin. These gradually go away. So it's not the "gluten" that sticks around or is stored, its the IGA response to the gluten. richard
  19. At a busy place like Red Lobster, I'd suspect cross contamination rather than dressing or sour cream. richard
  20. Everybody is different. I was unusual in that mine cleared immediately. And I mean that after I went gluten-free I never took another dapsone, even though I had been taking it for 20 years. richard
  21. I think back to my 11 days in the hospital and 10 weeks off work after nearly dying. In fact, it was yesterday five years ago that I was hospitalized unable to walk without help. I haven't cheated on purpose since then (except for a sip of a non-wheat beer).
  22. "i.e I was told i could have Vanilla but not vanilliaN, to avoid modified food starch, MSG (wheat startch), maltodextrin...is all that wrong?? " Never have found vanilla or vanillan with gluten. MSG in the U.S. is gluten-free. If maltodextrin is made from wheat, which it rarely is, it must be clearly marked in the U.S. MFS still can be made from wheat...
  23. You can bread just about anything you want with Zatarains. Same with gram (NOT graham) or chickpea flour. Stronger taste but I like it. richard
  24. A personal opinion, but if yopu've improved on the gluten-free regimen, I wouldn't even consider asking for the celiac aniotbody tests this early. Maybe at a year. Hemoglobin is a good choice if you were low. B12 maybe. Have you had a bone density? If not, do so. richard
  25. "I had been warned against Annato, the orange coloring sometimes having gluten and to only eat white cheeses." You have been warned wrongly. Annatto is without exception gluten-free. Yellow cheeses, as far as I've been able to tell over 5 years, are gluten-free without exception. The annatto thing is an old celiac urban legend. richard "Turns out...
