  1. They're gluten-free. Believe me, if Wendy's had any doubt, they wouldn't say so (think lawsuits). Never heard of dextrose being made from wheat in the U.S. richard
  2. Not a problem. I can't even imagine the drying scenario happening. richard
  3. Tiffany, Nice summation. Better than I could have done. Basically, I look at it like everybody should absolutely make their own choices, but some choices involve heavy, heavy amounts of consternation. I'm more concerned about my 40 mile daily trip to work and back, and even more concerned about eating out anywhere. richard
  4. Once again, for those in the U.S., wheat MUST be listed. No question. My experience was that even before the allergen law, wheat was ALWAYS listed in soy sauce if it was there. richard
  5. If your skin condition is DH, you don't need a biopsy. If you don 't know if it's DH, I'd advise you to check that out with a dermatologist before having a biopsy. Even with a brother having it and you testing positive on blood, there's almost no question. richard
  6. Yep, anybody who works in retail or with the public is exposed to anything and everything -- not just gluten. richard
  7. I no longer argue about the distillation thing, but I will point out that in the U.S., the vinegar and the vanilla would need to list wheat. Worrying about distillation on those two is pointless. richard
  8. No matter what you feel about the distillation thing, in the U.S. if vinegar has wheat it MUST be listed now. richard
  9. Citric acid is not a problem. This is very very old info. richard
  10. Chronic fatigue (and anemia) was absolutely my main symptom. I had really bad gas, but never the diarrhea. richard
  11. I haven't cheated in more than 6 years, but I also understand that a fair percentage of people with celiac do at some point, whether because they can't resist something or they get trapped in a situation where that's all they have to eat. I have no idea how I would feel physically if I cheated. However, if you do break down and cheat, I wouldn't beat yourself...
  12. My terrible night sweats and chills were caused by undiagnosed celiac. Took weeks and weeks of being gluten-free to get rid of them. There are, however, a number of things that can cause this. Do a search on night sweats ad you'll find lots of info and advice. richard
  13. Tons of recipes at foodtv.com. Just search for spring rolls. richard
  14. Please remember that I am not a tax expert or attorney. I'm assuming you're in the U.S. As far as I know, the IRS has never officially ruled on the tax status of gluten-free food. During my 6 years of reading gluten-free forums, I've seen people who say they have successfully claimed it and others who won't try. Some people have had tax experts tell them...
  15. From everything I know and have read, your daughter is in the more reliable testing stage. In addition, she would seem to have the familiar "failure to thrive," the most common symptom for young kids. richard
  16. Thing is, if you're still eating bread, pizza, etc., that stuff has WAY, WAY more gluten than beer. I mean TONS more. richard
  17. I wrote a nice note to the writer thanking her. She's was mortified that glucose got in and admitted that she mixes the two up in her head, even though she plainly knows the difference. The woman who avoids grain-fed beef was actually one of the first people to help me after I was diagnosed. She works at the local health food store and I was so relieved...
  18. Celiac article in the Roanoke, Va., newspaper. And there's actually going to be a celiac cooking class here. My only beef (pun intended) is that one person featured believes she has to avoid grain-fed meat. The author also slipped and used glucose instead of gluten in one place. Open Original Shared Link richard
  19. I've never found a toothpaste that definitely has gluten. I won't use Oral B simply because they are uncooperative about all their products. richard
  20. "Thank you for contacting us regarding Sensodyne
  21. I do see how the entry can be read differently than the way I read it -- the single word maltodextrin means it must be made from something other than wheat. richard
  22. Touching gluten doesn't bother me in the least, and I had DH. This sounds more like a contact allergy to wheat than DH. As for cutting boards, glass, stone or those thin plastic ones that can be washed. Wood is fine if no gluten is cut on it. richard
  23. The list is wrong. Maltodextrin in food CAN be made from wheat, but if it is, it must clearly state it is made from wheat. We rarely see it, and when we do it is often something made in Europe by a manufacturer trying to avoid using GMO corn. It's true that the source of maltodextrin in medications doesn't have to be listed, but I can't ever remember hearing...
  24. First, it would be an absolute waste of time to do any kind of celiac testing right after birth. Testing generally isn't accurate until after two years or later. Virtually everything I've ever read says to feed your child like any other child. If you start seeing symptoms, then you start checking it out. Of course you an keep your child gluten-free for...
  25. "malt flavoring is okay for celiacs as long as it is derived from corn, which most u.s. companies do, but to be certain you should call the company or go online." This is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Virtually all malt in the U.S. food comes from barley.
