  1. There are no 'genes for celiac disease', or 'genes for gluten sensitivity'. Period. There are genes that are associated with these conditions.
  2. I eat: a can of tuna. A can of salmon. Cooked fish of any kind. Baked chicken breast, can of chicken, for that matter. Eggs, do just egg whites if you plan to eat a lot. Lentils, beans, chickpeas (as hummus if you like dipping). Turkey breast. Ground turkey breast.
  3. Had my coffee 'date' and I'm sorry to report that I once again failed at thumb spotting. In my own defense, however, I want to say that I couldn't stop staring into his amazing blue eyes......
  4. The Raven is right. I do 'gene science' for a living and there are very few genes that have been found to directly correlate to a disease state. celiac disease is not among them. You can restate your question as many ways as you want, the bottom line is, there is no absolute answer. You can have none of the studied genes, and still have celiac disease...
  5. I'll contact British Airways. It can't be that big of a deal to exit passport control and come back through.
  6. Saturday, two weeks from now, I fly in to term 5 and out of term 3. Three weeks later I fly in to term 4, and out of term 5. Does this mean I have the option of leaving through passport control? I have some vague recollection of going through some humongous line at Heathrow watching people desperately trying to stuff all their collected miscellany...
  7. If you put 'chex' into the search filter you will find multiple threads showing that some people think they're fine, others can't tolerate them.
  8. There is no clearly defined "celiac gene". The genetic tests show associated genes only, so, no, the genetic test will not tell you if you have celiac disease.
  9. There is no known answer to this. Logic would tell you that eating something that makes you feel bad must be doing something bad to you
  10. Hey Knickster - I have 5 hour layover at Heathrow going both directions. How do you feel about hanging out at airports?
  11. Does the 16 yo drive? Maybe it's time to pass on the responsibility of errands. If they want fast food they have to convince the older sister.
  12. Create a food allergy information pack for the school? Include your child's issue's and the care that must be taken, but also include dairy, and peanut allergy info and distribute it to all the teachers. Each class could include the names of the kids that have specific issues. (Keeping in mind I have no children, I'm just thinking of what I would like...
  13. I was there several years ago and the lines for food were as long as the lines for the attractions. Do bring something in.
  14. Do you care what they find? Would it change anything you're doing? If the answer is 'no', then why do it?
  15. ok, well, I've had wine and I'm posting in other forums gotta go to bed
  16. I, personally, think this guy's a total scam artist. There are multitudes of markers to measure on blood cells, and absolutely no reason to believe that the one everyone happens to know about is the one key to everyone's dietary issues. His entire premise is flawed and I can't believe people give him money to follow his unsubstantiated advice. check...
  17. I agree with this. When I stopped eating soy, I stopped waking up at 1:30 in the morning. I still have periods wherein I wake up way too early, but now they are only a few days, not weeks.
  18. Pardon me?? Honey you need to march back to that doctor's office, pick up a three month supply of those pills, and start slipping them into everyone's coffee at work.
  19. Darling Peter takes care of everyone  :o And what would he do if he found a dead rat in the bed.
  20. I had a test yesterday, the play is over, I have a coffee blind date tomorrow, and I'm trying to figure out how to shampoo my rug before I leave for Spain. I need to hire someone to live in my house and wait for service people for me. and I just watched double rainbow with the rest of the people in the lab. It was fun.
  21. I don't think it's the lectins she's dismissing, but the way that article presents things. I didn't look up the research papers but many of them are old (newer methods of study may, or may not, give different results), are from less mainstream journals (may or may not be as well reviewed for accuracy), and the titles of several indicate animal studies, which...
  22. This was sort of my emotional response to the post. This sort of behavior would never have flown. We never ate fast food. Ever. I still don't. You could eat what was prepared, or make your own, or not eat. Whining was not an option.
  23. I'd say about a quarter of the invisible posts I check are spam. I may see more than some other mods because I'm on really early in the morning, but there are phases where almost all new posts are spam.
