  1. Rene, try posting this question on the OMG thread under other intolerances.
  2. I agree with MommaGoose, but there's another point to consider. My parent's doctor wouldn't test them also because they are asymptomatic. After I thought about it for a while I realized that even if they tested positive the likelihood that they'd stick to the gluten-free diet was very minimal anyway, so it was a moot point. They could always try gluten...
  3. You are so funny. You practically had to be dragged kicking and screaming into a gluten-free diet and now, see how nice it is?
  4. You sorta need to know which IgG, but I'm assuming gliadin. The anti-gliadin IgG can go up with other intestinal malabsorption type things, not just Celiac. Also, did they do tTg IgG and IgA? and total IgA? If they only did IgA antibodies, and not total IgA, it could be an IgA deficiency. Maybe you could get them to send you a copy of the lab...
  5. I agree with Juliet. Even if the tests were negative wouldn't you try gluten-free? Just start now. As for bringing food to his preschool, can't you send ziplock baggies of food with him? Or maybe set up a stash in the daycare with his name and warnings on it that it's allergen free food?
  6. There are some vegan cheeses as well. Also dairy-free ice cream. And you can make your own ice cream using coconut milk. Coconut milk fudge is very good.
  7. Here's a site that talks a bit about the B12 content of various plants. Bottom line is: It's not clear that any of the B12 analogues in plants are biavailable to humans. Better to stick to supplements. Open Original Shared Link
  8. I've been to the happy hour in seattle. The kitchen seems reasonably well informed and they err on side of caution (as in, they might tell you french fries are out because of the potatoes).
  9. OK, here's the molecular biology theory (although I like the damp theory too). Headaches can be caused by constriction or dilation of blood vessels. Suppose your's are caused (in part) by dilation. And suppose you have a very mild allergic reaction to dust/mold/etc that causes constriction of your blood vessels. Over time you've taught yourself that...
  10. You could probably get a new pasta pan and omelette pan for gluten-free. For the other pans, cook gluten-free in them for a while, but not for your son. At some point you will have cooked out all the gluten and they should be fine. Maybe for Easter you can bring your own mac and cheese with gluten-free macs.
  11. Grilled asparagus. Wrap asparagus in foil (maybe with some salt or gluten-free soy sauce) and cook on the grill. Also grilled corn on the cob is good. Tomato, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella salad with a bit of balsamic dressing. Veggies with a hummus dip.
  12. I like the Brazillian cheese bread for crust.

    ARCHIVED The Bro...

Unfortunately it's bordering on pathological. He was going in for kidney stone removal and he called us all to say goodbye (although he didn't specifically say that). And other than the "carbs" issue (as his wife calls it) he bike rides, eats healthy, goes to the gym, etc. No reason at all to be 'pre-non-hodgkins-lymphoma'

Well, or actually maybe you can... But that would be assuming everyone got it eventually.

I'm guessing you can't have this for 15 years.....
  16. YIKES!! Sorry you've had to go through all this. Yes, it can be the gluten that quickly. The las time I willingly had gluten I spent the next morning throwing up. Once I was done with that, even though I had painful diarrhea and stomach cramps I actually felt better than I had for 2 years. Welcome to the board!

Major hypochondriac. His wife censors everything he sees or reads. And every once in a while calls me or my mom with "your brother/son is driving me crazy!" Funny how almost anything is better than 'giving up' something.

 One of my brothers prefers to think he has pre-leukemia (whatever THAT would be). Guy, it's just wheat....
  19. Having visions of stuffing my bra with gluten-free goodies
  20. I was out with a friend and after listening to my ordering diatribe for a while she just started laughing and said "My God you're a pain in the a$$!!" I said "Yep, and it's about time!" Don't be embarrassed or feel like you are being a pain. Be polite and cheerful and firm.

The perfect chance to call a sibling an idiot! I look forward to those!
  22. You can call ahead during non-busy times or go in and talk to them. If it's somewhere that you can reasonably expect not to get glutened (vietnamese, for example) you could just pick the more obvious gluten-free things on the menu and ask about them (can be hard if there's a language barrier). I'd just skip the cake. Either take none, or don't eat the...
  23. Sarit, I'll also be going to Eastern Europe this summer. I'm not at all worried about diet because the food is more potato based and in general is whole foods, not a lot of processed stuff. I'm pretty sure that if you avoid anything that looks like it's made from wheat you'll be fine.
