  1. Well, studying genetics is what I do for a living, so what follows is my OPINION, but is an educated one. "Celiac" has been defined as a disease that destroys your intestine. This destruction happens in conjunction with a specific HLA structure. Therefor, this specific structure has been identified as "The Celiac Gene(s)" (the pertinent part of the structure...
  2. Ask the doctor to write out and sign that he's refusing to order a relatively inexpensive panel of tests for your daughter. Subtly imply that if she has Celiac, and has any related health issues later, you'll sue his license away.
  3. For some reason the phrasing of this struck me as brilliant. Yeah, whatever the cause is, your child is reacting to gluten and maybe she shouldn't eat it. If the endo shows something other than Celiac, maybe she still shouldn't eat it.

  5. Maybe the two of you could bring him breakfast in bed.
  6. gelatin is one of the substitutes for eggs.....? I have (somewhere) a list of egg replacers if you'd like.
  7. Yep, hang in there. I had some seemingly random reactions too. You'll get through them.

  9. It's a little different for everyone, but in general D, A, K, and E are not well absorbed (fat soluble). B12 isn't well absorbed, Calcium, hmmm, maybe those are the biggies. Keep in mind that even if you take vitamins it could be a while before those are absorbed. Some people use liquid vitamins or sublingual versions. You may also need to take or...
  10. I just mix in other starches. You might not want to make a rising bread without following the exact recipe, but most other things are pretty forgiving.
  11. Yeah, pretty scary. I was actually thinking this might be useful info for moms of underweight babies, as they try to get their nutrition under control.

  13. You do have a shock collar. It just doesn't work until several hour later and it's attached to your intestine
  14. Maifun is way fun to cook. It poofs up in the pan like jiffy pop, only quicker.
  15. I'm sorry that I said something that made you feel that way, I really didn't mean to. Since your original source was worried about it being a carcinogen, maybe you were paying more attention to that aspect of it. Did you ever hear anything about it being a carcinogen?
  16. But if you say it after hitting your thumb with a hammer, couldn't that be construed as a prayer?
  17. Fiddle-Faddle, I didn't mean for it to sound that way, that's why I went on to explain that there are a lot of things I DON'T pay attention to. I think that everyone is brilliant when discussing something that they personally take an interest in. You sub-consciously pay attention and so pick up on one -line mentions of certain things. I'm also not...
  18. take them back to a pharmacy and see if they'll do it for you.
  19. Just try her gluten free. If it makes a difference you'll have one more piece of ammo for the ped.
  20. Unfortunately it usually is a one-time thing. The media tends to give more air time to things that we can eat (dark chocolate, wine), and give less attention to issues that would require people to do something (fair trade coffee/chocolate, eat less meat (for the sake of the planet, not your own personal health), destruction of the rain forest for cows, and...
