  1. It could be sorta related. Since "traveller's D" is just colonizing your intestine with bacteria that you aren't used to, your gut could be more sensitive to the change. On the other hand, you could have picked up a different bug than your friends did and it's taking longer to recover from.
  2. The green stuff isn't good for you, but it's water soluble. I cut it out and boil those potatoes (mostly since I fear I'm slightly sensitive to nightshades).
  3. You'd probably want to use a comet-like scrub for pans or things that have gluten essentially cooked into them. Dishes are fine through the dishwasher, unless you run them with a pot you just cooked pasta in....
  4. I like it. It makes it sound more like the person preparing the food wasn't clean enough and left all that nasty old pre-used, second hand gluten all over the food. It's no longer me being paranoid, it's them being unsanitary.
  5. Yes! Depression was one of my big symptoms and I didn't even realize how bad it was till it went away. Hang in there and give your body a chance to remember how it's supposed to feel.
  6. I've wondered about this too. I work across from the county hospital and often go to the conferences where the case histories are frequently about homeless people. There was one case presented where the guy had been homeless for many many years and all that time had been a strict vegan. That kinda made me think that you could do gluten free on the system...
  7. Well, always nice to have a helpful dietitian I'm sure some parents will post better advice than I could, but I did want to welcome you to the board. It will get easier. In a lot of ways eating differently becomes more of a habit and less stressful. I would suggest making muffins with the mix, just so you both know you can make tasty treats...
  8. I'm sure someone must make belt clips. So right next to your phone and pager you can clip on your toilet roll holder.
  9. They didn't explain this to you very well. DRQ2 and 8 are the genes and they don't routinely test for those. The antibodies are: anti-gliadin, anti-tissue transglutaminase, and anti-endomysial (sp). Except for the names, your understanding is correct. I think you'll find that many parents couldn't handle the results when they tried to reintroduce...
  10. Knowing how good "normal" actually feels. Saving money by not buying all that expensive make-up to cover dark circles. Now I totally deserve the most expensive chocolate! Sleeping the whole night.
  11. Or an expensive designer Christmas tree
  12. I'm sorry you feel crappy today, Walter. It does get better. The first few weeks/months are a bit overwhelming, but once you get some things you like and trust, reading labels in the grocery store becomes less of a trial (although no less tedious). Start with well cooked veggies and rice and add on from there. And welcome to the board!
  13. Your intestinal bacteria might be all screwed up as well. Do you take probiotics?
  14. I've actually done this on purpose - just to annoy a particularly annoying company.
  15. Even my ex-husband who thinks I'm a nutcase for not eating bread always hands me a package and asks me if I can eat it before he opens it. I think it's a question of respect.
  16.  I guess that's the cheese lovers equivalent to watching the grass grow.
  17. Anything you melt cheese over counts as a meal (at least in my book), as well as most crunchy things. You can bake a bunch of potatoes and stick 'em in the frig (to put cheese on later) Put a frozen hamburger in a pan with some frozen veggies, cover and turn to low until meat is cooked. Break up the meat with a spatula, throw some spaghetti sauce...
  18. I have almost no GI symptoms. A little discomfort and bloating if I ate alot. My problems are mostly in my head - headache, brainfog, depression. and muscular.
  19. I keep a stash of soup in my drawer. Just grab a bunch when you do remember.
  20. I just got some Ruth's bars from Amazon. Don't know what the protein content is though. Similar to Lara bars, lots of fruits and nuts.
  21. Hey! Make those doctors work for you!
  22. I've been taking almost 5000 units a day for about 6 weeks. My muscle cramps have almost gone and I've not experienced any adverse events. You could always get rechecked after a few weeks if your nervous.
  23. Tink NO!!! You might accidentally spoil it for someone who's just googling for information!
  24. How do you figure out "what's in the dark"?
  25. How cooked do your veggies have to be? Could you do wilted salads? At least it would be some variety.
