  1. I think one brand name is 'glutenease' but I'm not sure. I've never tried them and I'm dubious of their efficacy, but if any one on the board does decide to shell out a few bucks and test them, I'd be interested in hearing about it.
  2. Although, there's some possibility that they might help with tiny amounts of CC, but only if you took them before you ate. After the fact won't help at all. If you decide to try them as a preventative measure, please report back and tell us your experiences.
  3. Or maybe you are sensitive to corn?
  4. My ferritin was 2, and no one suggested infusions (nor would I have done them). You can replenish your iron once the cause of the anemia is found and eliminated. I took the SlowFe twice a day, and something else in the middle for good measure. I didn't have any constipation issues (common when taking iron) or nausea. I would suggest you ignore all...
  5. This was in the National PARK, not forest. They have potties, well marked trails, helpful rangers discussing your hiking route and asking about mountain goats (a wild goat killed a guy last year, so they want to know if you saw any). Of course I don't see anyone until after my hike, 'cause I start early before anything opens. I was the third car in the...
  6. Hugs to all who need (or would just like) them. Went for a hike at Hurricane ridge, a bit wiped. Some pics on da book. Having Aplle Cider and sweet potato chips for dinner. Have planed a R/Udi's cinnamon raisin toast test taste for brekky.
  7. That's the point... congrats on the GRE, both being done with it, and being happy about it. When do you apply?
  8. Thought I would try to sneak out at 2:30, but I'm the only one here. Weirdest frickin' job I have ever had.
  9. Malt usually comes from barley, assume that. Caramel coloring usually comes from corn. If it comes from wheat it will say that. I've never heard of caramel being made from barley (although I suppose it could).
  10. For me. And my specialty food is expensive enough, thank you very much. As with anything, your health is ultimately in your hands. Teenage boys shouldn't be packing down pounds of processed food anyway, and if you can learn to navigate the myriad sources of gluten, and never during this process of education manage to stumble upon the definition of gluten...
  11. I didn't believe the pan thing until I realized I felt ill in the morning after making instant mashed potatoes in my old pasta pot. Got new cookware, and no more problems. I would suggest you go the paranoid route for a month so you have a clear answer about whether or not being gluten-free helps. After that, experiment on yourself and decide what works...
  12. Geez Em. Do you have some sort of bot that peruses the threads and sends you an alert when a particular word comes up? Lemmee see, what would be on M's word list.....? Anal glands Kangaroo scrotal sac Burundi *snort* I just pinged Emmy three times!
  13. *envisioning myself driving down the highway in my truck with the back window open, cord coming through to plug in the crock pot that's strapped into the bed of the truck, being followed by hungry travelers wondering why the entire journey smells like chili*
  14. I used mine in my living room while redoing my kitchen..
  15. I guess I don't see why you need a label to choose your food. For the majority of people, the 20ppm will work. Most won't react, some won't care. For those that do react at that level, would you believe a lower level stamp anyway? Wouldn't you make your choices based on previous experience with that food? Has your experience with government labeling...
  16. So hard when the furries are sick.
  17. Another weird thing that helped me was listening to the Harry Potter books on celiac disease. I knew the story, so no anticipation or need to keep going to see what happens next, and I found the guy's voice very soothing. Kind of like being read to sleep. And, if you aren't sleeping, at least you're entertained in the dark while lying down.
  18. Sleep is so glorious that pretty much anything is worth a try. Skip the dairy for a few days and see if you can break the cycle.
  19. Consider other food intolerances. After I removed soy I could sleep through the night for the first time in I don't know how many years. B complex will wake you up for a while after taking it, so it's better for morning or mid afternoon. Exercise and melatonin help me if I'm having trouble sleeping, or not sleeping well. I also try to avoid animal...
  20. The only reliable way to test for food intolerances is via elimination diet.
  21. I don't travel for business, so I don't have that perspective, but I imagine that I could come up with a solution, if I really had too. Maybe not. I know when I backpack in other countries I hit the market for fresh veggies, and if I'm in a US city with no food, my first choice is the grocery store, not a restaurant. Meals with clients, I suppose, could...
  22. I guess I don't get this. I manage to bring or store my own food for just about everything. Eating out is a choice, not a convenience. Even when traveling I buy whole foods and eat them raw, for the most part. I just skip the stuff that needs cooking.
  23. I guess I don't see why you (anyone) needs to eat processed food. Instead of stressing about what some packaged food tests at, why not just make all your own meals from whole foods? It's a different lifestyle, yes, but so much healthier for a lot of reasons.

This place. A lot of other sites post unreferenced information, or try to pass off opinions as fact. I like how the members here try to verify what they're saying, and people will pipe up if they think something is bogus. It really makes a place stronger if all the members contribute, and it the flow of information isn't controlled by one or two main people...
