I'm wondering about the cookies, I have problems with the gluten free treats. The other thing is whether or not you are chewing your food really well, I've heard a hundred times per bite, which helps with digestion. I know that if I am too hungry and eat too fast even foods that are okay with me will give me problems if I don't chew really well. I hope...

ARCHIVED Newly Dx And Having Odd "issues"/symptoms
rinne replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, I'm sorry you are feeling so rotten. In my case I have found that it is important to be a detective about my health, for example my regular doctor seemed to think that a level of 226 was O.K. for my B 12 but that is very low. The range of normal they put on the test that the doctor uses as a measurement says acceptable levels are between 176 and ... -
That's great news Karen, I'm glad that stress is gone.

ARCHIVED Before Going gluten-free Was Anyone Else Always Hungry?
rinne replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I rarely felt satisfied by food, I always wanted more and now I know I was starving even though I needed to lose thirty pounds. It was really bad if I ate wheat, my brain would shut down and I could and sometimes would eat a whole loaf of bread at one sitting or half a dozen donuts. This past year I got really sick and melted and now it is an effort to... -

Rachel, I agree, I think they are a manifestation of the problem and not the problem in themselves although I do wonder if they contribute to the pain and nausea, if you or anyone else has any thoughts about that please let me know. I feel like I shouldn't have let them do the CT Scan but I've decided it is the last time I will let them burn me, literally... -
Thank you Rachel, right back at you. I do appreciate the reminder in this thread that newbies need support and will make an effort to contribute to welcoming them.

Andrea, I am so glad the surgery went well. I hope Mitch is feeling better soon and able to get off the pain medications. -
I can't speak for anyone else but personally I am not disgusted by anything. I just figure boards change, people come and go and with that coming and going different issues arise, sometimes it is easy and sometimes it is not.

I'm sorry to hear that Rachel, I know the waiting is difficult. I found out this morning that I have "numerous bulky fibroids" in my uterus. They have known this since July but no-one thought to tell me, actually the nurse said they were going to tell me today because today was the endoscopy and colonoscopy. I suppose now they will refer me to a gyno... -

I don't watch the show much but I have noticed him making fun of himself before so maybe he is just coming out of the gluten closet. -

Floridanative, that is an interesting fact, thank you. Could he have been referring to himself? -
Andrea, I think this is an excellent point, but then I share it so of course I would think it excellent. I'm reminded that the blood type diet for arthritis recommends everyone avoid wheat. It is not just Celiacs and gluten intolerant folks that benefit from omitting wheat, particularly the highly processed products. It is a great first step for...

ARCHIVED Gluten Joke On Letterman Sept 19, '06

I was so distracted by my memories of Newfoundland that I forgot the thread topic. I didn't see it but it sounds as if the underlying tone was one of ridicule, no big surprise there. I'm sure there are a lot of people who are refusing to eat gluten because they feel so much better when they don't. I'm equally sure there are a ton of people out there... -

I loved Newfoundland, it reminded me so much of my grandfather who came over when he was about twenty but never really left Ireland, if you know what I mean. -
ARCHIVED Vinegar Question
rinne replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wonder if it isn't a little like the "100%" olive oil that has other oils in it that are not listed. I don't know about the flavoured vinegars. I also wanted to mention that I always use the apple cider vinegar that is certified organic and has "the mother" with it, I wouldn't trust other brands. -

Thanks Spunky, some good tips. I was wondering about using those rice wrappers to try and make baklava with and your peanut butter and jelly rolls tells me I right be on the right track. -
Yes, I found this extemely helpful too. And thank you for supporting what I said, I hesitated to say anything because I do not want to be critical but I hope to open the diagnostic question up for newbies. With all the things going wrong with me even though much of it may be gluten related and resolve over a longer period of time than just the five months...

ARCHIVED Vinegar Question
rinne replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been using apple cider vinegar and it is a bit of an adjustment, I really liked balsamic vinegar but can't eat it either. I know they say that distillation changes it but I still react to it and I react to grain alcohol too. I've read that apple cider vinegar is gluten free and my experience says it is. I hope this helps, there are times when vinegar... -
I think a diagnosis, self or other, can support a closed mind and that it is important to stay open to the possiblity that more is going on than we understand. When I came to this board I presented all of my digestive problems and received support and confirmation that quite likely it was Celiac and so I proceeded down the gluten free path. It has been...
