  1. No, I'm not allergic to latex and not familiar with the banana connection, but now I'm intrigued. My reaction to bananas happens immediately and is INTENSE. It was the weirdest thing to suddenly react so violently to something I'd eaten without a problem my whole life. In some ways, it's kinda like the reaction we have to gluten after going gluten free...
  2. WOW...can't believe you made it already! I'm really lucky in that my hubby and 5 year old are very good (i.e., not picky) eaters...but I'm like you and am put off if the texture/taste is not right. I definitely liked it, but the true test for me was serving it to non-gluten-free guests. Anyway, I'm sooo glad you liked it! I've gotten so much...
  3. If you do take food to share, remember to be aware of the inevitable cross contamination that can take place with other people and foods around. All it takes is one gluteny utensil or set of fingers in/on your food and it's no longer gluten-free. Try to get the first serving if you can Take care of yourself and have fun!
  4. Well, I'm no expert, but am VERY sensitive to casein and definitely cannot eat butter. I even react to the smallest trace of cross contamination. The process of clarifying the butter *presumably* removes all the casein, but even that left me a little leary because how could you possibly be sure that all the protein is removed? Then I found Purity Farm...
  5. So I finally got brave enough to entertain some friends at my home last week. After much agonizing over what to prepare, here
  6. Hi, Patti! So glad to "see" you back. You've been such a source of support and inspiration...my thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care of yourself!
  7. Hey, Brian - I wasn't picking on you...honest! Just wanted to clarify because the genetic lingo is often confusing.
  8. Welcome, Jamie! Just to reiterate what the others have said, this is NOT your fault...and in fact I commend you for taking the initiative to find this forum and the resources to help him heal! The learning curve is very overwhelming at the beginning, but really does get easier as you go along...just take it one meal at a time This forum, more...
  9. Just for the sake of clarity, gene DQ3, subtype 8 (more simply known as DQ8) IS in fact one of the two recognized celiac genes. Having the gene does not mean that you have celiac, but merely a predisposition. Of course, based on your history and other test results, you are obviously reacting to gluten...not to mention dairy and soy. Hopefully eliminating...
  10. So does that mean they're not available online? Guess I'll never find them out here in the sticks
  11. Finding soy-free makeup, especially lipstick, was particularly frustrating for me until I found Everyday Minerals. They originally carried a potted lip gloss (containing Mango Butter, Almond Oil, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, and Beeswax) that could be used with any of the mineral lip colors (which contain Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide, and Zinc Oxide). ...
  12. I like the "Natural" Tostitos as they are soy free (unlike regular Tostitos) and don't seem as greasy as some corn chips.
  13. Brownies are one of my all time favorite treats but are a real challenge as I'm gluten, casein, egg, and soy free. At the request of my husband, I made my first attempt at them this week (from a mix), and although my family has been eating them up, they just didn't taste right to me So glad to hear that yours were a success and at least someone out there...
  14. I've been using Everyday Minerals and absolutely love their makeup. I've found it to be more affordable than Bare Minerals and like that they offer a choice of formulas (matte, semi-matte, intensitve, original glo). I also like that the only four ingredients in most of their products are mica, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, and zinc oxide...no bismuth oxychloride...
  15. All LaVictoria taco sauces show as confirmed gluten-free on my SmartList.
  16. One the one hand, giving up dairy can be easier than gluten in that it
  17. Soy itself does not contain gluten, but many soy sauces are made with wheat so it's always important to check all the ingredients. Also, many people with gluten sensitivity have multiple intolerances, two of the more common ones being casein (dairy) and soy.
  18. Thank you so much, Tiffany...your stuffing recipe ROCKS!!! After having a "bread" stuffing disaster at Thanksgiving, I decided to try something different for Christmas. Not only was it a success, but my husband loved it even more than his mother's and grandmother's, which is something I never expected to accomplish in this lifetime And as an added bonus...
  19. The glaze I used sounds almost too simple, but was sooo good - just mix 1-1/4 cups dark brown sugar with 1/4 dijon mustard. Here's how I prepped the ham: Lightly score the ham in a diamond pattern. Insert whole cloves in center of each diamond (optional). I didn't use them. Place ham (cut side down) with 20-oz can of pineapple tidbits and juice in...
  20. WOW...I am bowing down in awe of you! Baklava is usually one my holiday specialties that the whole family looks forward to...but since going gluten and casein free this year, I hadn't even considered attempting it. Of course now that you've planted the seed, I may have to reconsider. Thanks for sharing the info!
  21. My Kroger carries Hormel Cure 81 ham which is gluten free. I baked it in an oven bag and made a very simple glaze. I was amazed at how easy it was and everyone liked it better than our traditional HoneyBaked!
  22. In the process of going gluten-light before going gluten-free I really started noticing an "off" taste whenever eating gluten...thought I was just going crazy
  23. I was a long-time HoneyBaked fan and always thought it was easier than making my own. Then I tried a Hormel Cure 81 ham in an oven bag with a brown sugar and mustard glaze that was sooo easy and it was delicious!
  24. Here's a link defining some of the forum abbreviations. Of course each topic-specific forum will also have it's own abbreviations like CF for casein free, etc. If you see an abbreviation that's not on the list, feel free to ask!
