Do Potatoes Cause Bloating?

Hi

I am wondering if anyone knows if potatoes can cause bloating? I ate a lot of potatoes today and my stomach feels like a baloon again. I think I consumed about 8 potatoes. I ate tortillas with potatoes for lunch and a soup with cauliflower and potatoes for dinner.

I am about 5,5 months into GFD, still positive bloodwork.

Yes, I think they can make you feel bloated in my opinon. If I eat too many potatoes, I almost feel glutened. I know they don't contain gluten of course, but that's how they make me feel. I became sensitive to potatoes and corn a few weeks after going gluten free. I've cut corn and potatoes out of my diet completely now and feel even better.

Many of us have a reaction (non-gluten) to corn and nightshades.

I am avoiding night shades in hopes that it will aid healing for me.  Yes, I have noticed a bloated tummy after potatoes.

  1. If I eat potato chips, potatoes, corn, soy, dairy I get so bloated it looks like I'm 9 months pregnant.  and I am a size 2.  I can't get into any of my pants or skirts for work and have to wear something baggy.  I also just noticed that when I drink flavored soda water I bloat up like a tick.  I have been gluten free for over 10 years and still have no relief unless I quit eating all together.  (I know this because I just had the flu for a week and felt great without eating).  I hate being cursed with Celiac!

Old post from 2013. but have you considered you might have Ulcerative Colitis?  Or something that responds to sugars and carbs? My Ulcerative colitis flares to sugars and carbs, Dairy, soy, and gluten are standard triggers for it. I bloat become gassy and my gut swells, I thought it was bad gut bacteria for years due to it corrisponding to carbs and sugars, but then got it diagnosed as UC last year. I went low carb/keto with a paleo base and have not had issues with it much. I take some other stuff to help but I no longer swell up really bad.

Was the card itself lost or just the record or both?
    • Francis M
We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
