10 Year Old Daughter Finally Diagnosed....

Ok I now have a celiacs child. Her tummy aches are finally gone 6 weeks after egd and diagnosis of celiacs. Gluten free diet did the trick. She now has chronic headaches. These are daily and and last most the day. I thought it may be something that she is lacking in her new gluten free diet but nothing has helped. Does anyone have this problem? Heard of this? Any advice?

Thank you

I had a lot of headaches in my first few weeks gluten-free. I think it was withdrawal. If she has been gluten-free for six weeks, I doubt withdrawalus the problem.

Hopefully someone else here can help.

Welcome to the board.

Have her vitamin levels been checked?   I have a suspicion that my headaches pre-diagnosis and even a bit after were due to low levels of B12 and/or D.  Not a scientist, just a suspicion.

I want to add that I really have no idea, and you should ask her doctor whether that's a possibility before adding in vitamins.

I'm glad she's been diagnosed at this early age so that she can have a happy healthy life vs the years of suffering some of us had.

Good luck at finding the cause of the headaches.

Does she drink enough water?

could be hormonal....could be magnesium.....could be withdrawal  ...could be psychological stress, what kid wants a chronic disease?  and, unfortunately, could be some of each! Good luck.

Maybe she is intolerant/allergic to other types of foods?

DD also 10 was dx'd in January.  She also had headaches every day.  It turned out to be stress in her case.  Good luck!

Have you had her thyroid checked?  My daughter use to get really bad headaches before she was diagnosed with a thyroid problem.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
