Amy's Products

I've seen lots of Amy's products in the stores, but none of them say gluten free on the boxes. And I'm not sure about all the ingredients. Quite a few of the mac and cheese boxes have a rabbit on the front of the box. Are these ones gluten free? Does anyone out there use the Amy's prducts much? I'm really interested in the mac and cheese ones if they are safe.

Why can't companies put gluten-free on them and make it simpler?

The Amy's Mac and Cheese that is safe says it right on the box...same with all that brands products that are gluten free.

Amy's does have a non gluten free version as well so just look for the gluten free on the box.

Is their gluten free pasta made from rice? The one I read didn't have wheat in it, but it wasn't rice either. And I haven't found any with gluten free on it. I wonder if that is just down in the U.S. and not in Canada.

Hi Viola - the one with the bunny is Annie's, not Amy's. Annie's does have one gluten free mac and cheese so far - they just released it a few months back. It clearly says on the front that it is gluten free - it's a rice pasta, though not quite as nice as Tinkyada. You have to prepare it just like Kraft Mac and Cheese.

Oops ... thank you for straightening me out Stephanie! You are right of course, I got the two names mixed up. It is Annie's that I've seen. So, I should be looking in the freezer section for Amy's .. I will certainly do that next time I go into town.

a link to their gluten-free lists

I TOTALLY get them confused when I'm writing about them (not when I see them, though). So I understand. I love the frozen Amy's mac and cheese - it's the only TV dinner I can eat...

unfortunately we don't have the Amy's frozen rice mac and cheese in Canada...as far as I know at least. I'm pretty sure it says on their website what products are available in Canada.

Oh poop ... Not in Canada :( That's a bummer. I will have to check out their web site this evening. Have to open my phone lines now though, so gotta get off the computer.

Here I was hoping for that nice mac and cheese.

I love Amy's frozen food so much that every once and awhile I go to Bellingham, Washington to do a gluten free shop there. I have looked at so many stores around here but I guess the gluten free Amy's that I like just isn't available in Canada yet.

Shirley, the Save-On Foods near my place just started stocking Amy's gluten-free frozen pizzas. So, maybe they will be bringing in more of their product line soon.

Guest Viola

Oh, that sounds very promising. I just printed off their "contact" page so I can take it into our 'Save on Foods' when we go into town next. Sounds like it might just happen :P That would be wonderful.

We all like amy's. Her Asian stir fry is the best. Two packages along with extra broccoli and other veggies makes a meal for an entire family.

@Healthforme, No prescription needed for thiamine hydrochloride, Benfotiamine, and TTFD (Tetrahydrofurfuryl Disulfide).  They are available over the counter.   Thiamine Mononitrate is not recommended because the body doesn't absorb or utilize it well.

HLA-DQ2 is NOT a continuum 2.01 to 2.99, but I don’t understand HLA genetics well enough to explain it further.  It is not just one gene that is either this or that.
    • trents
Okay, I'm taking a guess here. We are used to hearing in layman terms that having either the HLA-DQ2 or the HLA-DQ8 gene, either heterozygous or homozygous, presents the possibility of developing active celiac disease. So, I'm guessing that the HLA-DQ2 gene is actually a range of variants (2.01-2.99) with HLA-DQ 2.5 being in the centerpiece of the range. I'm also guessing that "permissive" is equivalent to "possessing the possibility" to develop active celiac disease and does not address the issue of hetero vs. homozygus per se. But the fact that 2.01,2.01 is a couplet may indicated homozygousity? All wild guesses.

I received the results that my child has the genes for celiac disease (she is still undergoing testing and it has been complicated). Can someone explain if this is homozygous HLA DQ 2.5 or not? The interpretation just says permissive for celiac disease. Thank you! DQ Alpha 1  05:01, 5 DQ Beta 1 02:01, 02:01 DQ serologic equivalent 2,2
